2-way active studio monitor - white
Notes: When workspace is at a premium, don't compromise on quality. With the 8020D, Genelec's renowned accuracy and reliability will fit your project and your space.

The Genelec 8020D is small in dimensions, but big in ambition. The 8020D, introduced in 2017, even delivers 4 dB higher SPL and has a lower energy consumption than earlier models of 8020. Designed to suit the broadest possible range of listening environments, 8020D thrives when space is at a premium, and draws on the innovation of the 8000 Series for an unrivalled near-field experience.

Trust in the colour-free, accurate reproduction of the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE), while relying on the precise on- and off-axis frequency reproduction of the Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). And when you're finished, Genelec Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) circuitry detects when your system is no longer in use, placing it into an environmentally friendly, power-saving standby mode. From post-production studios to OB vans and DAW-based rooms, the 8020D is your near-field solution of choice.

Review: Berlin Young gun Max Kobsoil returns with more interesting techno perspectives on Ostgut Ton, his second appearance for the label since his debut LP We Grow, They Decline. No doubt influenced by his residency at the legendary Berghain, these four sonic weapons are strict and austere: overall sure to cause some destruction on the dancefloor. Beginning with the fierce industrial techno energy of "40000 L", the A side is completed by the abrasive body basher "Bei Nacht H" where its over driven kicks fight it out with nasty textures and grim atmosphere. On the flip, "Derange" is the most tunnelling and hypnotic cut on offer, that's sure to get some strobed out moments happening in that notorious warehouse space. After recent mayhem courtesy of his own RK imprint and releases on MDR, this is heavy stuff, so handle with care!

Review: Amongst minimal wave and alternative synth-pop enthusiasts, short-lived London band Shoc Corridor has an excellent reputation. Although they released a pair of albums and a gaggle of singles in 1983 and '84, it is '82 debut single A Blind Sign that gets collectors drooling. On this Dark Entries reissue, it's easy to see why. Flipside cut "Sargasso Sea", a fantastically spaced-out combination of heavily dub influenced post-punk bass, minimalist drum machine hits and liquid electronics, is particularly special, while "On Reflection" is a fine slab of swooning, near Balearic electronica. The title track, a Gary Numan-esque chunk of mutant synth-pop that bizarrely includes some jangly acoustic guitars amongst the arpeggio bass and twittering synthesizer melodies, is also inspired.

Review: What type of collabo-devilry is this? DLR and Hybris are two of the most respected technicians, mix engineers and sound designers of our time. Combining science with funk on every release as individuals, it's no surprise their collaboration EP is no exception... "Every Day Is A New Tomorrow" comes on strong with a creepy classic molten steel tech groove that spaces out like an acid casualty on the breakdown before necksnapping you into oblivion. Elsewhere both parties provide solo heat in the form of the fast-lane racer "Panoramic View" and the hurricane stepper "Lately". Fierce enough to make the devil blush.

  3. Why Can't We Live Together (4:34)
Review: The TK Disco reissue series continues with a fine EP of classic cuts from label stalwart Timmy Thomas. This time round, the singer and keyboardist's most famous outing, the fuzzy and impassioned organ jam "Why Can't We Live Together", is relegated to the B-side, with 1977 cut "Africano" taking pride of place on the A. It's something of an overlooked gem, all told; a killer chunk of Clav-happy Afro-funk/Afro-disco fusion full of chanted vocals and Thomas's own killer electric piano flourishes. Also featured on side B is "Funky Me", which was originally featured on the B-side of "Why Can't We Live Together". Equally fuzzy and underpinned by the same sort of clicking drum machine percussion, it naturally features Thomas showing off his impeccable organ skills.

Review: With its festival, International Series, DJ Directory and Soundsystem: Dimensions has become a leading name in the underground. In only a mere six years of existence thus far, that's quite impressive we must say! Now, they extend their influence with the start of a new label: Dimensions Recordings. It launches with a 12 track compilation across three separate discs. As the label best describe themselves "An Introduction Part 1 calls upon artists from different corners of the globe who share the similarity of undeniable soul and expression in their music." From the Swahili sung harmonies on Mim Suleiman's lo-slung boogie down groove "Pole Pole", to the afro influences of Swiss collective Alma Negra's "Onga" whose spiritual life music reaches near tribal moments. On the flip, there's Istanbul's Kerem Akdag with "Getdownsoclose" a soulful jazzy and downright dusty deep house groove. Maryland's James Tillman's soulful vocals on "Wander" rounds off Part 1 with a dose of the soul.

  4. DJ Aakmael - "Transit" (5:58)
Review: Given that Croatia's Dimensions Festival is one of the most consistently on-point electronic music events around, it figures that their new off-shoot label should regularly hit the spot, too. Certainly, the early signs are good. This second sampler single impresses from start to finish. Occasional L.I.E.S artist Marcos Cabral kicks things off with a fine chunk of fluid, underwater deep house ("Prochainement"), before Byron The Aquarius reaches for the talkbox on the sumptuously deep, soulful, jazz-funk influenced house bliss of "Full Moon". Lady Blaktronika gets things going on side B with the groovy, late night Detroit deep house bump of "Can We Still Be Friends". Arguably best of all, though, is the dreamy, jammed-out analogue deep house warmth of DJ Akmael's "Transit".

Where the first disc delved into the exotic and explored world music and soulful vibes, this edition features some cutting edge electronics from legends and new heroes of the scene alike. Electro heroes London Modular Alliance appear with their best impression of purist Detroit electro on "Crosstalk" while the A side also features the glacial dub techno tones of Upwellings' "Soft Shadows". On the flip, Fachwerk boss Mike Dehnert gives us the very Robert Hood sounding "Tokio"and Windy City legend Steven Tang aka Obsolete Music Technology appears with something harder than you'd usually expect from the man: on the gnarly analogue techno of "Comb Freq".

Review: Fresh to Bird Scarer, fresh to us all; according to Weatherall all correspondence with this mystery new electroid sculptor has been done by letter (to a PO Box no less) and not even he knows who she is. Her music, however, speaks volumes: "Apple Knife" cuts with a crisp arpeggio before dropping into chunky, almost housey electro break. "Wisdom Of Rumi" softens the angularities a little with a break that's not dissimilar to Tone Loc but awash with strange space-aged FX and numinous flourishes. According to Weatherall, he hopes there's more to come from Zu... We do too.

Review: Twwth & Desto welcome brand new act Inner to the fold by way of this crystalline quartet of 23rd century trap constructions. Swaggering on the cosmic side, there's a touch of the moody Hudsons to the opening track "Pain" before the beats step up into more of grime energy and textures melt into a wavy sensation on "Crystal Ember". Dig deeper for the fractured, clipped and sense-blurring "Closa" before a final 135 hurrah on the RL Grime meets Nick Warren spatial star-gazer. Sweet dreams.

"C Monday" flexes on a classic electro beat with windy synths and spoken word breezing across the landscape, "Cordon Bleu" grits up for a warehouse shuffle sesh, "Taupe Wings" applies a little acid to a balmy collection of string samples a la deep house mode while "12h45" closes the electroid loop with another 707 beat pattern and sinewy acid scribbles. Bon nuit!

Review: Where France's Yoyaku leads, other tech-house labels follow. New imprint Cas:mu appears to have borrowed the Parisian label's trick of not crediting producers, in order to keep buyers guessing who is behind the record. Regardless of the identity of the producer (or producers) behind these tracks, they're certainly club-ready. "Random Tool" is a deep tech-house shuffler replete with bubbly bass and drifting chords, while the Hyacin Remix Tool version of the same track is a little rougher, tougher and darker whilst still being smooth to the touch. That vibe (think squidgy but sharp bass, rolling beats and intergalactic electronics) can also be heard on "La Baraque". Romanian tech-house stalwart Discret Popescu's remix is, if anything, even better, with more elastic, electro-influenced beats and seriously warm sub-bass.

Review: Originally released in 2014 on Running Back, Radio Slave's rave anthem "Children Of The E" receives a bunch of remixes here. There were two versions of the original: the "North London Mix" and the "South London Mix". This time around, Bulgarian hardware maverick KiNK works his magic on two versions: the hard hitting yet evocative "Kink SP1200 remix" channels the vibe of early '90s Underground Resistance whilet he breakbeat driven "Kink & Rachel version - DJ GJ edit" is equally as retro leaning: and remixed by label boss Gerd Janson himself. On the flip, former !!! member Justin Van Der Volgen's remix returns to the ravey aesthetics once again and is sure to bang the party!

Review: Considered the anti-hero of disco music, Argoman literally means 'lazy man', however it's also a combination of three Italian producer's names who started the project about one year ago. Any guesses who they might be? We will leave that to you! The track "Chimicalissimo" is new wave Italo disco at its finest, featuring peak-time dancefloor energy completely produced with analogue synths and drum machines. Gerd Jason and Fabrizio Mammarella team up again as Black Spuma and their remix turns the track into a slow burning disco monster. The dub version gives more space to a melancholic piano melody that culminates through analogue arpeggios to an unstoppable build.

Review: Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant has firmly established itself as an 'it' label within the current indie dance scene with its eclectic grooves that span punk funk, industrial/EBM throwbacks and even a bit of melodic tech house for good measure. For its fifth compilation, the Cologne based label serves up some current scene favourites in the form of Romanian duo Khidja and their groovy and tripped out slow burner "Gelatine" and Jakarta's finest Jonathan Kusuma: who is in top form as always on the lo-slung baleraic number "Motor Melodies". On the flip, German duo Marvin & Guy take you on a cosmic styled trip on "Juba Dance" while Kempes: the new brainchild of Danny Passarella and Tom Wegg-Prosser channel their best impressions of greats such as Giorgio Moroder or Bobby Orlando on "Sentimental Idiot".
