Sina's Freund (5:44)
Werner's Spiel (6:02)
Elvira's Katzenfisch (5:40)
Frank's Einsamkeit (5:51)
Review: Audiosex and Hanoben stepped out together on Discos Capablanca back in 2018 with the on-point acidities of Phone Sex, and now they're teaming up once again for this killer clutch of edit tackle for the always interesting Duca Bianco label. Rather than the well-mined stocks of disco and funk that usually get dusted down by edit scavenegers, these two have turned to synth pop and German new wave sounds, coming up with four deep cover, deliciously dishevelled pieces which align perfectly with the brand of acidic club music they make themselves. 'Elvira's Katzenfisch' is a prime case in point - a broad, sweeping slice of synthwave which sounds like it might slide off the reel to reel at any moment, while 'Frank's Einsamkeit' swells into a searing 303 burner for the darkest dungeon dancefloors.

Midnight Sounds (6:08)
For Our Small Parties (6:27)
Dear Dancefloor (5:06)
On The Road (4:19)
On The Road (Generation Next remix) (4:47)
Review: A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Musca Remixes (Record Store Day RSD 2023)

Balearic/Downtempo
Fantasy (Floating Points remix) (15:12)
Might As Well Be Magical (Seven Davis Jr Multiverse edit) (6:24)
Fantasy (Herbert's Greenery dub) (9:02)
Review: Herbert's most recent album, the return-to-his-deep-house-roots treat that was Musca, has been given the remix treatment for Record Store Day 2023. It's a predictably impressive package, with Floating Points - delivering a 15-minute trip into glitchy micro-house territory in fine fashion - naturally taking top billing. His remix - kind of like a minimalist take on his own early house excursions, with added early morning weirdness - is far from the only treat on show though. Seven Davis Jr delivers a rubbery, loose-limbed and quietly funky tweak of 'Might As Well Be Magical', before Herbert steps up with his 'Greenery Dub' of 'Fantasy', a slow-burn, near 10-minute affair that recalls the oddball brilliance of his turn-of-the-millennium house releases.

Confrontation (3:46)
You & Me Babe (4:20)
Review: The Athens of the North label is a blessing for those whose tastes in soul, funk, disco and boogie tend towards the obscure and ludicrously hard-to-find. Their latest re-issue fits into both categories. Seemingly the only single they ever released, "Confrontation" came out in 1981 on Arista but copies have since proved incredibly hard to find; so hard, in fact, that original 7" singles now change hands online for nearly L300. The title track, produced by A Taste of Honey's Perry Kibble, is brilliant, though, delivering a soulful, heartfelt disco-funk jam full of smooth backing vocals, bubbling clavinet lines and deliciously righteous horns.

Dekmantel Anniversary Series Part 3

Hundred20 - "Minke Whale Congregation"
Hunee - "The Lowest Animal"
Review: The Dekmantel Anniversary series has proved as popular to date as you'd expect with contributions from Messrs Lone, Morphosis, Awanto 3 and Juju & Jordash. Round three arrives and you guessed it, the standards have been maintained with Hunee and Hundred20 representing either side of a delightful lime green twelve inch. Hundred20 is of course the musical endeavour betwixt Dani Plessow and his studio sparrer Felix Bergleiter, and "Minke Whale Congregation" is filled with typical MCDE flourishes such as the Raw Cuts style drums, though there is also a nice crumbled edge to the track's textural qualities. With the exciting news of a forthcoming debut album from Berlin resident Hunee still cascading around our collective mindset, "The Lowest Animal" cranks up the anticipation further - occupying the guttural end of smudged out analogue body music in the opening moments before revealing several new rattling layers of mind altering, body jacking potential.
