Irma Thomas - "Let's Do It Over" (2:23)
Laura Lee - "Sure As Sin" (2:39)
Terry Callier - "Lover (Where Have You Gone)" (3:04)
Review: This special EP unearths hidden soul treasures from the late 60s and has powerful performances by Laura Lee and Irma Thomas that have an impact that far outweighs the modesty of the 7" they come on. Those two tunes were recorded at the legendary FAME Studios and originally released on Chess Records and also included are two of Afro-soul legend Terry Callier's most refined and emotive productions from the Cadet label/ They really underline his lush, orchestral take on soul with his own unique voice soaring to emotionally wrought heights. None of these tracks have been previously issued on 45 rpm and they are all sophisticated, heartfelt vintage magic from a golden era of Southern and Chicago soul.

Luca Piermattei - "Notti Magiche" (6:28)
Cedric Dekowski - "Kuhan" (6:06)
Cedric Dekowski - "Tremoa" (remix) (7:24)
Review: After a period of quiet, Background Rimini returns with its third release, and it's a doozy. This split EP sees Luca Piermattei and Cedric Dekowski join forces and blend their deep love and sharp instincts for electronic sound on one rugged 12". On the A-side, Luca delivers two funk-laced house cuts infused with acid and electro flourishes that are perfectly pitched for both late-night movers and sunrise groovers. Flip to the B-side, and Cedric drifts into dreamy, breakbeat-laced territory with 'Kuhan' before turning up the heat with the floor-filling punch of 'Tremoa' (Remix). Club-ready stuff with electric impact.

Fire With Fire (5:39)
Moonlight (Vocoder version) (3:36)
Review: Figi and Luca dell'Orso are Dutch electronic talents who offer up a heartfelt tribute to the vocoder here, long after it has become the iconic voice of electro disco. Across the three well-designed tracks, the duo blends sharp production with lush textures and bittersweet robotic vocals that add an unmistakably retro-future feel. The title track kicks off with rumbling bass and crisp percussion driving it along as vocodered lyrics glide over the shimmering keys. 'Fire with Fire' leans into Luca dell'Orso's more emotive side and balances bold synths with a melancholic undertone. Figi closes with 'Moonlight (Vocoder Version),' a syrupy disco tale of love told through vocoded whispers. It's a timeless celebration of the fusion between man and machine.

Reel It In (feat feat Madaline - Fingers remix) (5:53)
Between Us (feat Madaline - instrumental dub) (6:40)
Reel It In (feat Madaline - Summer Acid Burn) (5:49)
Review: 40 years have now passed since Larry Heard made his first record. Heard is, of course, without peers when it comes to deep house - he pretty much drew up the blueprint after all - though he does occasionally invite other producers to bask in his reflected glow. That's the case here, as he and Memphis-based Michael Kuntzman (an artist who has previously released music on Heard's Alleviated imprint) deliver a notable collaborative 12". Guest performer Maddaline whispers, sings and vocalises her way through the dreamy, richly electronic and sonically pristine 'Between Us', which is accompanied by a typically gorgeous 'Instrumental Dub'. There are two versions of 'Reel It In' - also featuring Maddaline - too: the deep tech-house shuffle of Heard's'Fingers Mix' and the back-to-Chicago-87 flex of Kuntzman's 'Summer Acid Burn' take.

Pakard - "Wax One" (5:18)
Lorenzo Mancino - "Thrilling" (5:06)
BENKHLIFA - "Bright Material" (5:44)
Exos - "Hexagone" (5:31)
Review: Rushing from the starting blocks as though life depended on it, Kahler opens the scoring with the perfectly balanced and fine-tuned 'Mosaic', a driving, percussive techno workout that's direct and peak time yet also minimal and patient, poised even. Grillac follows suit, keeping things ghostly with plenty of energy coming from the top ends, while using a vocal hook to add a little rave bounce. By now, it's probably clear R 0 01 is a strong collection of belters, and the remainder do nothing to quash that belief. Lorenzo Mancino and Exos arguably unleash the most fury - tracks that feel like stepping into a warehouse party in 1999 with a nose full of whizz and stomach full of pills - while BENKHLIFA keeps it more heads down and Berlin.

Review: Planka Records continues to lay out its musical agenda with a fourth EP that takes the form of a forward-thinking compilation that blends fresh talent with trusted names. Hypnotic rhythms, shimmering textures, and fearless experimentation define this release, creating a soundscape that's equally suited for deep club immersion or solitary reflection. Review: Jacopo Latini returns to Altered Circuits with a four-track EP that sharpens his minimalist approach while maintaining his signature melodic touch. Focused squarely on groove, each track explores subtle yet impactful progression and opener 'Sharp' sets the tone with eerie atmospheres, vocoded vocals and fluid 303 squelches. 'Impulse' rides a hypnotic FM bass and sharp percussion for a dramatic yet refined journey. 'Bright Sound' balances modulated leads and deadpan vocals with euphoric touches and closing track 'Rave Harvey' bursts with '90s trance energy which marks a bold shift toward high-intensity club euphoria and minimal design with maximal impact.

Play That Vibe (6:17)
Review: Sneaker Social Club is one of the more low-key UK labels but its output is high-class, and often explores myriad forms of bass music with a retro glint in its eye but plenty of future intent. The four-piece collective Legion is Trends, Boylan, P Jam and D.O.K. and now they return to follow up their debut 2021 release on Artikal Music. The EP opens with 'Rastaman,' a raw half-step dubstep track with eerie atmospheres and heavy bass, embracing minimalist and high-definition sound. 'Souls' pushes a jerky groove while maintaining the EP's spartan mood and 'Sister Abigail' amplifies the sinister Legion sound with metallic dissonance. Closer 'Play That Vibe' channels a 2010s dubstep techy feel. This EP is a ruthless yet finely tuned masterclass in sound design and arrangement.

The EP picks a seriously punch with tracks like Leslie Lello's 'R U Doing' (De Gama Re-Groove), a bass-driven house anthem with soaring synths, Frank Virgilio's 'Juice,' a fusion of acid basslines, organ stabs and tribal vocals, and Javi Frias's 'The Big Dance,' which is an electrifying track with bongos, laser beams and a disco bassline that delivers exactly what its title promises.

Crafted entirely with raw hardware, these tracks overflow with DIY spirit and machine soul. Each cut channels the intensity of basement sessions and industrial textures, all grounded in pure analogue energy and mastered by Dutch West Coast legend Alden Tyrell. Review: The legendary David Holmes returns under his new alias The Light Brigade, with a brilliant outing on Mystic Arts, which follows up his appearance on the Sounds From The Flightpath Estate compilation. Side A, 'Shuffle The Deck,' was made with electro don Keith Tenniswood of Two Lone Swordsmen and is a fiery, bass-driven sermon laced with gospel, acid loops, Arthur Russell-style cello and a sample of the late great Andrew Weatherall reflecting on rave as spiritual ritual. On the B-side, 'Only Love Can Save Us' is an expansive, kosmische-inspired collaboration with Michael Andrews that is chiming, soaring and deeply emotional. A moving and transcendent tribute to dance music's past and future.

Dub Dealing - "Badman Riddim" (3:48)
Review: This heavyweight 12" delivers fresh French-produced roots reggae straight out of the unlikely region of Brittany in the North West. It unites the talents of producers William Spring and Arthur Dub Dealer with sought-after Jamaican vocalist Aza Lineage and results in 'Give Thanks For Life,' a spiritually charged anthem carried by Aza's commanding, conscious delivery over a deep, meditative rhythm. William Spring serves up his own riddim, and the B-side offers a delicious dub version from Dub Dealing that strips the rhythm back and recooks it with echo-drenched finesse. Benyah's 'Badman Horns' is tipped with some ska-adjacent brass to make for a meeting of modern roots energy with enduring messages of uplift.

Review: Eliot Lipp's latest is a classy melange of breakbeats, shimmering guitar samples and his signature Korg MS-20 synth work. First cut 'Kona' opens with a punchy but dubby rhythm before easing into a breezy, sun-soaked groove that evokes the vibe of a sunset drive or a chilled beach session. Lipp masterfully blends retro analog warmth with clean, modern production as he twists knobs and filters the Korn leads into cosmic rays that feel both nostalgic and fresh. 'Silver Bass' is perfect for summer soundtracking-whether you're coasting down the highway or dancing under the open sky, it's a deeply feel-good jam built for golden hour moments.

Review: Big up to northern powerhouse Burnski for steering his Constant Sound label to the not-so-insignificant feat of release number 50. More importantly, the sounds remain as vital as ever and always evolve into subtle new sound worlds. The mantle for this one is taken by Locklead who brings some fine drum patterns to 'Backup' and pairs them with sliding hi-hats and bubbly synth motifs. It's garage-infused but utterly fresh. 'Wizzord' is a darker tech house with searching lead synths and plenty of pent-up energy, and 'Motherland' brings nice jazzy chord work and atmospheric samples. 'Pink Skies' is a bright closer with contrasting synths - some farting, some smooth - and more high-speed, catchy drums that span house and tech.

Review: Two standout tracks from Priori's This But More get a stripped, emotional rework from Loidis, which is of course the introspective alias of Brian Leeds aka Huerco S. and Pendant who is known for his minimal, textured approach. Here, Loidis stretches the originals into hypnotic, slow-burning explorations. The rhythms remain intact but feel deeper, warmer, like echoes from a distant rave. It's dancefloor music in slow motion: eyes closed, head lost in the groove. These extended versions don't just remix, they reimagine while blurring lines between ambient and club, motion and stillness. It's a compelling fusion of restraint and rhythm, perfect for late nights and deep-listening sessions alike.

Review: UK-born, Spain-based house head Marlon Lopez faces off with downtempo king Nightmare son Wax here for a pair of dubbed-out cuts packed with soul and classic samples. 'Cancel Dat' rides a choppy groove with bleeping synth sequences and the tightest of pinging kicks, and as it unfolds, you get ever more hypnotised. 'Patang' has a dry, retro-future sound with chilly synth modulations and snappy hits, while a snaking, dubby bassline adds the weight. Two great sounds for back rooms and basements full of real heads only.

Review: Although they only debuted a couple of years ago, Los Guapos Sensibles have become firm favourites with lovers of authentic international grooves and sounds like cumbia. Here they return with La Alicia bringing vocals heat on this double A-side. Leading with a digital dancehall flip of Vico C's classic proto-reggaeton banger, 'Bomba pa' Afincar,' it's got that island vibe locked down. On the flip, they dive deep with a bass-heavy, fresh take on the timeless bolero 'Sabor a Mi' by Alvaro Carrillo, which is where Puerto Rico meets Mexico in a sonic showdown. Raw, rhythmic and packed with swagger, this is the best of tradition warped into a modern groove for a bold, cross-cultural fun.

Review: Lo U returns with four club ready cuts that fuse the best of UK garage, breakbeats and deep electronic textures into contemporary killers. The EP opens with 'Transitus' where crisp UKG rhythms collide with a dark, neurofunk-inspired bassline then 'The Green Planet' follows with classic 2-step swing and a warped, heady breakdown. On the flip, Lo U revisits a label staple with a refined take on 'Platus Karma', injecting fresh style into the original while keeping its soul. Closing track 'Eresia' ventures into expansive, cinematic territory/. It was recorded live and sculpted in the studio so has a fresh feeling that blends broken beats with immersive soundscapes. Decades later, a chance reconnection before lockdown reignited their friendship and sparked a new musical adventure. Studio sessions turned shared memories into the sonic fusion that is Closed Circuit, a raw blend of electro grit, B-boy swagger, Warp-inspired house and dusty vocoders. Marco Lys's 'River feat Rion S' kicks off with scintillating synths hanging in the air next to indie vocals for a fresh combination. Review: Scandi curveballer Leoparden first shook up Oslo's experimental scene with a funky twist of disco, electronic pop and irresistible grooves. After his 2019 debut single Boliglan and a solid album on Lyskestrekk Records in 2019, plus a couple of singles, he vanished for a bit. Now, he's back and cranked up the dial, diving deeper into shimmering synths, punchy drum machines and dancefloor-ready beats. His lyrics casually capture everyday Oslo life with a breezy vibe, while the music keeps you moving with its playful vibes. Though rooted in Norway's capital, Leoparden's sound is a global invite to dance that transcends time, space and place.

Review: Wewantsounds continues its deep dive into Algerian music with the first-ever reissue of Les Abranis' sought-after-by-those-who-know 1983 long player, Album No. 1. Originally recorded in Paris and privately pressed in small quantities, the album, which is also known as Id Ed Was, fuses Kabyle rhythms with funk and touches of reggae. This reissue has been curated by Cheb Gero (of recent Sweet Rebels compiling fame) and features remastered audio, though it retains the original artwork. It's a great line document of Algeria's diasporic groove with a two-page insert featuring fresh liner notes by journalist Rabah Mezouane.

Review: Futurespective is a carefully remastered compilation showcasing the finest work of Les Animaux Sauvages, the legendary Bulgarian band known for their blazing blend of post-punk, new wave and dark wave. For the first time, these classic tracks are available on vinyl, which is literally music to the ears of fans of Eastern European underground sounds. The band is a trio of artistic kindred spirits who united in 2014 with Ivo Stoyadinov Charlie on guitar, synths and programming alongside Sibylla Seraphim, who brings her haunting vocals and synth work to the mix. Together, they craft a moody, atmospheric sound that is distantly lo-fi, with prowling and sleazy guitars that Andrew Weatherall would love, chugging dark disco groves and tripped-out machine soul and wiry electronics.

Review: A striking collection of digitally manipulated piano pieces, each one of them on this album are named after iconic films and TV shows. They are all crafted late at night as a response to passive media consumption and aim to blur the line between classical impressionism and contemporary digital manipulation. Drawing inspiration from Viktor Shklovsky's concept of "ostranenie" (which means estrangement), the work challenges habitual perceptions and makes the familiar feel strange. The music oscillates between mechanical MIDI chaos and intimate, fragile moments that question the emotional stakes of sound in a world where technology can often flatten deeper meaning. It's a profound exploration of art's role in resisting the numbing effects of mindless routine and endless immersion culture.

Review: Since the release of her last full-length excursion, No Thank You, in 2022, much has changed in the world of Little Simz - both personally and professionally. These twin themes naturally shaped the sound of Lotus, not only her first album in three years, but also a first without her long-term studio partner InFlo - a producer she is suing for L1million in unpaid royalties. She goes in hard (lyrically, we mean) on her former partner on opener 'Thief', a cinematic and loose-limbed number that perfectly encapsulates the more stripped-back, often organic beats and surprisingly personal lyrics that mark out the album. Highlights are plentiful, with the post-punk/punk-funk fired 'Young', string-laden 'Free', heart-aching 'Hollow' and Afrobeat-inspired 'Lion' amongst the standouts.

Review: Electronic soul innovator Liv.e followed up her acclaimed Girl In The Half Pearl with PAST FUTUR.e last year, and it's now dropping on vinyl. The surprise seven-track project was made in just 24 hours and announced via a post on X. It's a lo-fi synthwave collection that betrays her genre-defying instincts and trades neo-soul smoothness for raw, hallucinatory energy. She bellows like a dancehall toaster and delivers fragmented narration over fuzzy, pulsing synths that echo Gang Gang Dance's experimental spirit. Is it an EP, album, or mixtape? It doesn't matter-PAST FUTUR.e is an unfiltered transmission from one of r&b's most inventive voices, and it's wildly unpredictable.

Review: Lord Byron's sixth album is a real standout in his discography and another trademark fusion of Southern rap's silky essence with the introspective depth of slowed-down, chopped-and-screwed beats. Produced by Ben Hixon of Dolfin Records (which is dropping a ton of great records right about now, by the way) A Portrait of Fyodor on Fire shows off Byron's versatile delivery as he seamlessly blends rapid-fire verses with the hypnotic rhythms of DJ Screw's influence. Collaborations with RPBGV further enrich the sound with new layers of complexity and innovation all white drawing inspiration from diverse sources for subtle inspiration that makes for a Texan-infused world of introspection and rhythm.

Review: Hyperspace Communications drop a fresh remix package of cult US new wave trio Los Microwaves' debut LP, What's That Got To Do (With Loving You). Remixed by Kit Watson from the original 24-track analogue tapes, the release features two discs. Disc One is a 45 RPM dancefloor-ready EP with six reimagined cuts from Life After Breakfast, including 'deadpan vocals and punchy cold wave grooves Time To Get Up' and 'TV in My Eye.' Disc Two runs at 33 RPM and adds four instrumental versions tailored for film/TV sync and live remixing. It's a great addition for collectors or an introduction for anyone new to these California synth and techno-punk disrupters.

Review: Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Maurice Louca is part of The Dwarfs of East Agouza with Alan Bishop and experimental composer Sam Shalabi, but also has an assured solo sound. He explores it here on Bar?y (Fera), a new album that is a hypnotic melding of polyrhythms and acoustic textures crafted over four years from the essence of a 2019 solo set. It really took bloom in a Cairo studio with longtime collaborators Ayman Asfour on violin, Khaled Yassine on percussion and Rosa Brunello on double bass. Louca's microtonal guitars weave with synths and ensemble interplay to create vivid synth-acoustic layers and guest stars Nancy Mounir and oud player Hazem Shaheen deepen the sonic richness, all guided by adventurous collaboration and resulting in an alluring, meticulously crafted work.

Review: Bobby Lyle's 1977 classic jazz-funk album showcases his well-renowned keyboard mastery with standout tracks like the inventive title cut, 'The Genie,' which is a wild groove-driven journey through multiple shifts. His rendition of 'Night Breeze,' previously recorded by Ronnie Laws, is another highlight and the mystical 'Mother Nile' features deep rhythms while the dreamy mid-tempo roller 'Pisces' soothes. Up-tempo 'Magic Ride' and atmospheric 'You Think Of Her' showcase Bobby's rich vocals and a stellar lineup including Roland Bautista, Babatunde, Victor Feldman, Ernie Watts, and Donnie Beckhelp make this it's a definitive jazz-funk fusion gem.
