Review: The third and most especial edition in the latest selection of versions of the reissued LP by Alonso Toro, Paul Desenne, and Pedro Vasquez - Alzheimer. Coming hot on the heels of an original, as-it-was reissue as well as a gemmy Ricardo Villalobos rerub, this deluxe edition comes in a beautiful yellow and lilac LP box, and features the latter's two remixes as well as an exclusive Wetsuit Je Me Souviens version. A curio of the Venezuelan vanguard, the album was recorded between January 1997-99, and hears the fabled trio of musicians "forget everything" that came before, enlisting the recorded help of every member of the animal kingdom - from mammals to insects - and shooting squarely for a whole new sound-world-order in the process. Sonically flowing between heritage Latin music and minimal electronica, the purpose is to confuse and the effect is indeed confounding, though no less dazzling.

Review: On April 17, 1994, Led Zeppelin's main songwriters reunited for the Alexis Korner Memorial Concert in Buxton, England. In August, they recorded performances in London, Wales, and Morocco featuring Egyptian and Moroccan orchestration of classic Led Zeppelin tracks along with four new songs. These performances were broadcast as a 90-minute MTV special UnLedded which led to a successful tour starting in February 1995. This newly reissued release captures an exceptional performance from that tour and includes both new material and Middle Eastern-influenced renditions of Zeppelin classics like 'Bring It On Home,' 'Ramble On,' 'The Song Remains the Same,' 'Black Dog' and 'Kashmir.'

Review: Evan Parker's latest work continues to explore the sonic intricacies of solo improvisation, delving into the depth of his saxophone's expressive potential. Throughout the album, Parker's distinctive approach to free jazz is on full display, weaving in layers of rhythmic complexity, unconventional sound manipulation, and a raw exploration of texture. The tracks possess a singularity, drawing listeners into the subtle tension between calculated structure and wild, spontaneous experimentation. While Parker's legacy within the jazz avant-garde is undeniable, this release proves his ability to push further, creating an atmosphere that is both alien and familiar.

Review: Given that this is the first album from the great Theo Parrish since 2007, it's unsurprising interest in American Intelligence has rocketed over the course of the year as Sound Signature left a trail of hints. Happily, American Intelligence is a fine album; deep and woozy in parts, undeniably soulful, shot through with jazz influences and full to bursting with killer cuts. By now, everyone should know the brilliant "Footwork" single (arguably one of the records of 2014); soon, clubs will swing to the off-kilter dancefloor jazz of "Make No War", the 21st century broken house of the epic "Fallen Funk" and the decidedly odd - but brilliant - "Helmut Lampshade".

Review: Hard to define, rule breaking and game-changing producer Theo Parrish is back with another of his challenging and superlative albums. This one - which naturally arrives on his own Sound Signature label - is a collaboration with Maurissa Rose that true sooth the soul. It s full of his usual deadly grooves, shamanistic percussive layers and jazz energies with plenty of his famous luscious, meditative loops. Add in the smooth vocals of Rose - which come in the form of a soulful stream of consciousness - and you have yet another unique album from this true maverick of the form.

Review: Who doesn't love a bit of Dolly Parton? The globally renown queen of country - and the unlikely cult hero who invested heavily in the quest for a Covid-19 vaccine once the pandemic hit - is still turning out plenty of new music. Rockstar is her latest full length and it comes via Butterfly Records and Big Machine Records. It is a collaboration with a variety of rockstars which marks her first moves in the world of rock. Legends like Simon Le Bon and Rob Halford, Pink, Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow all feature across eight sides of vinyl and an adventurous and accomplished long player.

Review: The eleventh studio album by prolific American rock band Pearl Jam, Gigaton was originally released in March 2020 and sold out almost instantly. Now getting a re-run on US label Monkeywrench, fans have a second chance at adding this standout release to their collection. Typical of Pearl Jam this release features inventive instrumentation such as the 1850s-era pump organ originally played by Vedder on the 2015 demo of 'River Cross'. Featuring popular singles 'Dance of the Clairvoyants', 'Superblood Wolfmoon' and 'Quick Escape', Gigaton was undoubtedly well worth the six and half year wait. Definitely one you'll need to grab before it's gone.

Review: After more than 26 years, Pearl Jam triumphantly claimed the top spot on the mainstream rock airplay charts in the US with the lead single from their latest album. Released 1000 days before the album itself, the single 'Dark Matter' marked Pearl Jam's return to chart-topping glory for the first time since 'Given To Fly' in January-February 1998. The album, now finally released, has swiftly garnered praise from fans old and new. Laden with the band's signature riffs and powerful grooves, every track, including 'Dark Matter,' showcases Eddie Vedder's iconic vocals and confirms they still have what it takes to make a mark in the metal world.

Review: Orville Peck's Stampede Vol. 1 is a choice blend of duets, marking his third album and the first part of a multi-part collection. The album opens with a serene rendition of 'Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other,' featuring Willie Nelson, setting a sweeping and airy tone. The pace picks up with 'The Hurtin' Kind' alongside Midland, an intense, rhythmic track with moaning steel and fervent harmonies. Elton John joins Peck for a scorching reimagining of 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting),' adding a vibrant energy. The Spanish-language 'Mienteme' with Bu Cuaron stands out, blending Peck's country style with traditional Banda music, honoring Mexican rancheros. 'Chemical Sunset,' featuring Allison Russell, evokes a 40s bar atmosphere with muted trumpet accents, while 'The Hurtin' Kind' references Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game,' fitting its heart-wrenching lyrics. Noah Cyrus's 'How Far Will We Take It?' is a twangy ballad, and 'Conquer The Heart' with Nathaniel Rateliff is a hazy, guitar-led tune. While the seven-track album leaves listeners longing for more, Stampede Vol. 1 is a powerful showcase of Peck's collaborative and evolving sound.

Review: Stampede, Orville Peck’s third album, is a formidable album full of talent and collaboration, completed by an impressive roster of guest artists. The album kicks off with a serene calm, led by Willie Nelson on the tender 'Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other,' setting a spacious and emotive tone. The sweeping strings and Peck’s haunting vocals create a vivid landscape that feels like the calm before the storm. The tempo picks up with the sultry, Midland-assisted 'The Hurtin' Kind,' where steel guitars moan and harmonies smolder, capturing a desperate intensity. The energy continues to rise with fiery tracks like 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting),' featuring Elton John, and the heroic Spanish-language 'Miénteme' with Bu Cuaron, both delivering the album’s promised impact. However, Stampede is not just about power. The latter half introduces more nuanced, intricate songs, including the haunting 'Back At Your Door' with Debbii Dawson and the groovy 'Death Valley High' featuring Beck. The album also closes strong with an electrifying cover of Glen Campbell’s 'Rhinestone Cowboy' and other standout duets. In its entirety, Stampede is a compelling blend of strength and artistry, solidified by its collaborative spirit. It’s an album that’s as emotive as it is powerful, proving Peck’s ability to craft an album that’s both expansive and deeply resonant.

Review: An expanded version of Nonetheless, the legendary electronic pop duo's first release in over a decade. This expanded version of their 15th studio album features not only demos of the original tracks but also four new recordings, including three fresh songs and a cover of 'All The Young Dudes'. Teaming up with producer James Ford, the album combines the straightforward charm of their 1986 debut, Please, with the rich orchestration reminiscent of Behaviour. Opening with the lead single 'Loneliness', Tennant delivers an empowering message to shed isolation and embrace connection. This theme continues in 'Why Am I Dancing?', which reflects on finding joy amid life's chaos. The romantic track 'A New Bohemia' nostalgically yearns for past ideals while advocating for equality and transparency in 'New London Boy'. Overall, Nonetheless celebrates a diverse range of emotions, blending infectious dance tracks with introspective ballads. The result is a compelling album that reinvigorates the Pet Shop Boys' legacy while exploring contemporary themes of hope and connection - and the definitive version is here.

Review: Lacinia is the newest cycle of compositions by Italian composer and guitarist Stefano Pilia and it extends the metaphysical and mathematical explorations introduced in his acclaimed 2022 album Spiralis Aurea. Drawing from sacred geometry, number theory and ancient musical traditions, Lacinia unfolds as a series of immersive sonic meditations. Acoustic and electroacoustic textures from strings, horns, organ, percussion and synths are all carefully interwoven and Pilia creates cyclical, ritualistic structures that evoke composers like Arvo Part, Eliane Radigue and Sarah Davachi. Inspired by liturgical music and the eternal return of transformation, Lacinia aims to seek meaning through harmony, stillness and resonance. The

Review: Released in 1969, Pink Floyd's Ummagumma is a double album that showcases the band's experimental edge. The first disc features live recordings from concerts in Birmingham and Manchester that highlight the group's dynamic stage presence with extended versions of tracks like 'Astronomy Domine' and 'Careful with That Axe, Eugene.' The second disc consists of solo compositions by each band member, revealing their individual creativity and eclectic styles. This album captures Pink Floyd's transition from their early psychedelic sound to a more avant-garde and progressive approach, making it a significant milestone in their illustrious career.

Review: Pink Siifu's haunting, uncompromising masterpiece 'Negro Deluxe' gets a limited 3xLP press. An ultra cathartic, hard-hitting haze of hardcore punk, free jazz, and harsh noise-adjacent sound design with violent and corrupt cops firmly in its crosshairs, it emerged in 2020 a month prior to the murder of George Floyd. Originally titled ‘To Be Angry’, NEGRO draws influence from Afrocentric jazz, sci-fi literature and the music of Bad Brains, Death, the late Ras G, among others. One of the most arresting and immediate LPs hailing from the hip hop continuum of the last ten years, it's not to be missed!

Review: KUM explores the work of Giusto Pio from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, which was a period of intense sound experimentation. The album features four pieces-'Rappel,' 'Alla Corte di Nefertiti,' 'MeDeA' and 'A.D.A.M. Ubi Es' which are all linked by Pio's collaboration with Franco Battiato. Their creative exchange helped shape Pio's post-avant-garde vision and blend new musical fragments and "astral counterpoints in frequencies and colours in time." Nearly 50 years later, KUM offers a philological perspective on these intertwined artistic paths that highlights the innovative approach that defined Pio's unique exploration of sound and composition.

Now to mark this year's RSD, their debut album Froge.mp3 enjoys a limited vinyl outing and it sounds amazing for it. Cuts like the sing-along 'On & On' and the lofi dreaminess 'Slowly But Surely' and the sun-kissed summer joint 'Beachin' all still sparkling as bright as they did when they first dropped last year, this is a significant moment for Piri & Tommy. Happy Record Store Day!

Review: When the dust settled, it would be fair to say that 'Indie Cindy', Pixies 2014 recording comeback, was not a roaring success, from its unfortunate title down. Paradoxically, what appears to have made the difference for the vastly superior 'Head Carrier' is the arrival of talented journeywoman bassist Paz Lenchantin, who makes her presence felt throughout and perhaps shakes up the chemistry of the band just enough to make them comfortable taking chances. The spiky pop hooks, humour and off-kilter raunch are here in spades, yet more importantly 'Head Carrier' sounds like the work of a band comfortable in its own skin once again.

Here, beloved RuneScape tracks get reimagined to blend classic vibes with modern twists and the first up 'Garden' embraces a traditional style, while the iconic 'Sea Shanty 2' transforms into a minimal d&b banger. 'Autumn Voyage' slows things down with a breakbeat remix, and 'Shine' takes on an atmospheric edge while seemingly drawing inspiration from Aphex Twin. Made using hardware like a Roland JV-1080 and reverb effects inspired by the PS1, Pizza Hotline stays true to the golden age here.

Review: When it first hit stores in 2007, Kushbush - the fourth album by industrial noiseniks turned psychedelic techno twosome Plateau (AKA Skinny Puppy's Kevin Compton and studio buddy Phil Western) - was only released on CD. This, then, marks the set's first appearance on vinyl. In keeping with the duo's chosen themes of "altered states and introspection" (the project was initially inspired by their love of cannabis and desire to see it legalised in their native Canada), the album sees the pair blend the growling intensity of Nine Inch Nails (and Compton's other industrial punk band, Download) and the full-throttle dancefloor assault of acid-fired techno with snapshots of picturesque melancholia, the far-sighted futurism of 1990s IDM, and the wide-eyed, tripped-out electronic psychedelia of ambient techno.

Review: Porcupine Tree's Fear Of A Blank Planet gets an expansive reissue via Transmission, offering the most comprehensive edition of the iconic 2007 album to date. This deluxe edition is packaged in a 112-page hardback book featuring rare photographs by Lasse Hoile & Carl Glover, and an in-depth exploration of the album's creation by Stephen Humphries. The five-CD set includes newly remastered versions of Fear Of A Blank Planet and the Nil Recurring EP, alongside over 55 minutes of previously unreleased demos. Fans will also find live performances from The Garage in Saarbrucken in 2006, a BBC session, and an unplugged instore performance from 2007. The inclusion of these early live recordings offers fascinating insights into the evolution of the album's material. The Blu-ray disc includes remastered stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes, a 2024 documentary, and live footage from The Palladium in Koln. With contributions from prog legends Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson, Fear Of A Blank Planet stands as one of the band's most celebrated works. Review: Port Almond, the alter ego of Norwegian singer-songwriter Rune Simonsen, faced various challenges creating his second album Little Ships. After the success of their 2018 debut, the recording session for this one was delayed due to the pandemic and a devastating fire that destroyed LowSwing Studio. Despite setbacks, Simonsen and producer Guy Sternberg persevered, recording the album in September 2021 at Emil Berlin Studios and mixing at Hansa Studios. Featuring British trumpeter Tom Arthurs, Norwegian bassist Dan Peter Sundland, and Tom Krimi, Little Ships presents ten surrealist songs. The album, cut directly to vinyl without digital processing, includes exclusive art prints by Israeli artist Nir Evron in a luxurious gatefold cover.

Review: Once-breakout hip-hop star Post Malone has come a long way since ‘White Iverson’, as he here follows up his 2023 album Austin with yet another full-length offering F-1 Trillion. His sixth album to date, and characteristic of the genre-hopping propensities of the late-stage capitalist, liquid modern condition, this record is an out-and-out embrace of country music, after the aforementioned Austin just as adventurously heard Malone go full synthpop and alt-rock. Flaunting his freedom, Malone said to Howard Stern, "To be honest, there's nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album to put on YouTube. I'm allowed to do that. I'm a human being”. So he did. This is actually a stunningly bright record, never once letting up the crispy, neon aututuned blitzes endemic to the hip-hop Malone is known for, providing (neo-)neo-country a fresh soundworld all unto its own.

Review: Post Malone is back with his 6th album and his debut country album, F-1 Trillion. The album's second single, 'Pour Me a Drink,' featuring Blake Shelton, exemplifies the album's country bro vibe, perfect for enjoying a casual drink with friends is currently making waves on country stations throughout America. The first single, 'I Had Some Help' with Morgan Wallen has dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, marking Post Malone's sixth chart-topping single and Wallen's second. It has also achieved significant milestones, including topping both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts and amassing over a billion streams globally. Country music seems like the ideal place for his talents and a natural within the music genre. This album is poised to turn heads and change people's mind for the better on abilities of Post Malone.

Review: John Powell could almost be seen as the Hans Zimmer of animated movies. His oeuvre to date includes Antz, The Road To Eldorado, Chicken Run, Shrek, Robots, Ice Age 2 and 4, Happy Feet, Dr Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!, the first two Kung Fu Panda films, and Mars Needs Moms, among many others. Including the entire How To Train Your Dragon trilogy.
Hugely successful, the action packed adventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III - a young Viking and heir to the throne of Berk - really needs equally exciting music to accompany it. That's exactly what we get here, with a classically-inspired swashbuckling score doing more than setting the scene: some tracks hark back to the golden days of kids movie soundtracks, when the songs themselves told large chunks of the narrative.

And it is fair to say Elvis's influence paved the way for the '60s social revolution. This exceptional triple album contains 54 tracks, mostly alternate versions, with all of them offering a unique compilation of Elvis's diverse talents. It celebrates his versatility as an artist while honouring the brilliant songwriters who helped make his work legendary, flamboyant and so timeless.

Review: Thom Yorke and Mark Pritchard revive the collaboration first aired on the latter's 2016 album Unde The Sun, this time across a full album reportedly four years in the (top secret) making. It's a compelling synthesis of Yorke's atmospheric melancholy and Pritchard's textured production. It expores a range of moods, from the uneasy tension of 'A Fake In A Faker's World' to the hypnotic rhythms of 'Back In The Game', while the eerie, spectral qualities of 'This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice' reveal the pair's ability to intertwine experimental soundscapes with a visceral emotional pull. Standout moments include 'Gangsters,' where Pritchard's intricately layered beats mesh with Yorke's haunting vocal delivery, and 'Wandering Genie,' which closes the journey with a strange sense of release. The music takes unexpected turns, not just as a statement of collaboration, but as a reflection of two artists playing with the unknown, pulling their sonic worlds into unexplored spaces. Each track is a feather in the cap of their combined ingenuity, with Yorke's vocal vulnerability and Pritchard's production wizardry in full synergy.

Review: Maynard James Keenan's Puscifer project has been giving the fans the good stuff since those heady days of lockdown by upping the ante on live stream performance. Even now they're back to real-world touring, they're continuing to explore the medium of reaching millions of fans globally by revisiting specific eras of the band's history. Parole Violator is the soundtrack to their filmed performance from the Wiltern Theatre in LA, and it finds them revisiting tracks from 2011's Conditions Of My Parole and giving them a fresh perspective. From acoustic renditions to heavenly new arrangements, there's a lot to savour for the devoted fans of Puscifer.

Review: If you at first mistakenly read the title of the new Pye Corner Audio box set as "Where Things Are Now: No Tomorrow", you're not alone - Martin Jenkins' effortless blend of retro-nostalgia and forward-facing production is a keen match for reflexive cynicisms like this. His use of sizzling vintage audio-tropes could only have been achieved in the 21st Century and helps foster a reinstated optimism. The name of the full series is actually Where Things Are Hollow; and while two volumes have been released already, a third original one now comes added here, on top of a full remix roundoff featuring Alessandro Cortini, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and John Talabot, producing this rather banging four-volume set.
