Review: The third release on Secretsundaze’s 9FINITY imprint sees Naarm/Melbourne producer DJ Life return to the fold with another batch of psychedelic club tools, balancing UK bass pressure with trippy minimal finesse. ‘Utility’ jolts things into motion with snaking low-end and warped FX, slipping in and out of jagged tech shapes. The sparring synth jolts of ‘Electrolyte’ feel more frenetic, its thwacking groove and dubby vocal chops making for a proper headrush. On the flip, ‘Breathe’ trades upfront energy for depth, layering smoked-out subs beneath lattices of percussion. ‘Stay Playful’ edges toward tribal house but keeps its sci-fi freakiness intact. Digital bonus ‘Love Sensation’ eases the tension with clipped garage swings and pearly pads—a welcome curveball.

Opener 'Bring the Beat Back' locks us into a steady, almost mechanical groove, setting a quiet but resolute tone. By the time 'Focus Beam' rolls in, the sound broadensirolling rhythms and subtle textures layering into a deeper, trance-like pulse. Each track weaves together smooth basslines and darker atmospheres, a quiet contrast to the pulsing energy beneath. Closer 'Flusong' rounds out the journey with its deeper, more percussive edge, crafting a moment of focused tension. It's a masterclass in rhythmiunfolding with relentless fluidity and immersion.

Review: Neptune Discs specialise in progressive downbeat, upbeat and acid convections, and as a label theme themselves after forgotten marine kingdoms. Though Poseidon has thrusted his trident at us here, there's actually a fourth track/prong on this tenth edition in the Dutch label's V/A catalogue, adding extra implosive impact to an already power-packed depth charge. Standouts here, in our estimation, have to be the faster currents of the bunch, taking shape as Tifra's 'Headspace' - whose breath-of-life melodic sequencings and CPAP pads allow us mammals a moment to come up for air - and DJ Life's 'Carapax' - whose gnatty lead buzz is like a desiccant for contaminant waters.
