Review: Oslo-based Det Gode Selskab, like many labels from the Scandi-region, has its own distinctive take on house - it's lush, melody-rich and cosmic with plenty of dynamic drum work. Berlin-based Norwegian Henriku is next up to bring his own sounds into their world, and this atmospheric house and minimal exploration is hella impressive. 'I Do' works the floor into a steamy and hot house lather, 'Rush Fantasy' then gets a little twisted and freaky for later in the night and 'Pillow Talk' leans into a dusty Detroit house vibe. 'Nicotine 4 U' might be the best of the lot - a fluid bit of afterparty house with irresistible drums and warped neon lines.
Review: Norwegian tech house upstart Alexander Skancke is definitely in party mode on the latest release for his aptly named Quirk label. Linking up with kindred spirit Henriku, the emphasis here is on distinctively tooled, high-pressure tracks with bags of oddball personality thanks in no small part to the tongue in cheek mic chat taking place all over the shop. 'I Wanna Party' is an absolute monster of a breaks-fortified workout with the title being declared at choice moments by someone who sounds like they're doing exactly what they intend. 'Growing Up' is another bombshell for the dancefloor loaded with risers and jacking house pressure and there's even some hilarious accapella fun and games for those who want to create some confusion in the mix.
Review: Berlin-based, Norwegian-born DJ/producer and Quirk label boss Alexander Skancke and Henriku in collaboration over four tracks - that is if you include the X-rated, spoken word workout 'Listen To This Frank'. There's a touch of a storytelling arc across the tracks too, with a distinctly camp edge too. That said, the hard jacking, hypnotic minimal house grooves gracing 'Piri Piri' or 'What Happened?' will have plenty to offer audiences of pretty much any complexion.
