Review: UK hardcore masters Kniteforce keep the rave alive with another excellent throwback EP, this time from Nookie. It has all the authentic hallmarks of a proper old school offering but with great modern production. 'Give A Little Love' is a pain banger with bristling breakbeats and no shortage of energy, then 'Love Is The Message' douses you in fizzy chords and dusty drum breaks that dart up and down and are run through with yelping vocal stabs. 'Pedro Visits Romford' shuts down with bright chords refracting about the mix next to more chopped-up vocals.

Review: Opus One digs into the vaults with this one. It is a new 12" with a pair of old-school remixes of gold-standard Nookie originals. First up is the Makoto remix of 'Natural Experience' which is a soul-drenched, feel-good and upbeat roller with silky vocals and oodles of sunny charm. On the flip is a Nookie (aka Cloud 9) remix of 'Innerspace' that takes the cut into cosmic territory with slapping and slamming amen breaks, thrilling snares and bleeping synths that work as well as head as they do on heart and heel.

Review: Nookie brings some superbly sough and summery vibes to the first tune on this new slab of wax for Kniteforce. 'Only You' opens up with fresh and smooth breakfast. They land with decent weight but also seem to float, especially once the heavenly vocal coos bring the soul up top and the fluid synths and jazzy chords bring great musicality. On the flip, 'Celebrate Life' is similarly silky and jazzy, with ducking and diving rhythms that are warmed through with great chord work. Bliss.

Review: Music for anyone living on Cloud 9. The eminent Nookie goes right back to the very beginning of his career to explore his roots with Daddy's Armshouse, an imprint and movement created around his tenure at Red Records in the late 80s/early 90s and his good friend The Pedge. Pre 'Sound Of Music', these are the primordial ingredients that paved that way for so many different classics (including Nookie's engineering work for Ray Keith) Highlights include the dramatic stabs and spacious drums of 'Return Of The Donut', the sci-fi funk and tightly coiled hardcore energy of 'Here Comes Bod' and the dub honey of 'Granny'. A real history lesson and some previously unheard seminal slabs right here.

And in this case, it is a thrilling blend on Opus One Records of hardcore, jungle and breakbeat in the form of two new singles and one alternative mix. ''My Angel' opens up with some crispy drum programming and sensuous vocals that soar above the physical drums. The Rage Mix is a darker, dirtier version with more raw energy and late-night menace and then 'Together (Again)' is a super sweet roller with liquid synths and serene strings adding the detail.

Review: Two of drum & bass' most rabid underdogs, Nookie and DJ Crystl, the latter returning only recently after a two decade hiatus - make a triumphant return to the foreground, joining Suburban Architecture in aid of the third edition of their Architecture Dubs series. A fresh fusion of old and new motifs, Nookie's remix of 'Renegade Horns' pays homage to a select juncture in the genre's evolution, recalling the era of "intelligent" drum & bass while nonetheless playing into the freshness and cleanliness that could only ever have surfaced after the 2010s. Crystl's version of 'New Horizons', meanwhile, is more refractive and dreamy, taking its required time to bask in its artisanal padwork, in contrast to its raw b-boy sample and frank Amen breaks.

Review: Goldie's superb Metalheadz label rains almost as influential now as it was during its earliest and most pioneering years. The boss himself has managed to keep on curating tasteful and innovative sounds and next up is Nookie and vocalist Ruth Royall with a brilliant brace which arrives just before Nookie's debut full length album for the label. The uplifting 'Hero' has refreshing drum breaks and lush pianos coverlid up top with some superbly powerful vocal harmonies from new generation talent Ruth. 'We Shall Overcome' then flips the script and explores soulful house music with good times vibes.

Review: Having emerged in the early 90s with a substantial body of work on Moving Shadow (especially under the alias Cloud 9) It was only a matter of time before the legend that is Nookie made an appearance on 2BadMice's new Over/Shadow imprint. Naturally it's a high impact label debut that flexes the full range he's known for... 'Love Less Chaos' sees him linking up with one of the most exciting and prolific singers currently operating in the new-generation of songwriting talents in D&B Ruth Royall for a jazzy workout that's highly reminiscent of Metalheadz in the mid 90s. Flip for 'Got Soul', a more Cloud 9-style piano vibe-out with some classic vocal samples weaved gently into the mix. Moneymaker-shakingly good.
