Review: Sure, to oversleep is to miss an engagement due to deprivation. But to overdream...? The ramifications! Osaka based synthpop unit Pictured Resort (helmed by Koji Takagi) perchances to find the rub of what it means to overdream, on their latest, long-awaited fourth full-length record. Fastening a distinctive sound from noticeably breezy synthpop, AOR, dream pop, and vaporwave influences, Pictured Resort picture a worthy resort to escape to. From the title track to 'Epiphany' to 'Pathfinder' and 'Home', the band deploy stellar funk, electro-swung and crisp helio-soul as means to move through the various implicitly escapist fantasies of the popular imaginary. To overdream is perhaps to grow too obsessed with bands like Takagi's; the implication is that we must get the right dosage of such sweet music to appreciate it at all; not to overindulge it.
