Gravel Pit (4:19)
Uzi (Pinky Ring) (4:32)
Review: The legendary Wu Tang Clan has got a peerless discography when it comes to golden era hip hop. Part of that is a number of essential long players that go deep on the art form, but of course they will always be best known by many for their standout singles. 'Gravel Pit' is one of them and is dropped on the limited edition 7" with 'Uzi (Pink Ring)' on the flip. It's a floor-filling tune with a bump n grind beat, slick rhythms and the seductive female response. The b-side hits harder, with big horns and molten chords next to some raw verses that bring the attitude.

Smoove - "Queensbridge" (3:55)
Herma Puma - "Brooklyn" (Smoove mix) (4:18)
Review: Big week for Jonathan 'Smoove' Watson this week, with a reissue of his 2009 classic 'Beggerman' he created with regular partner in crime John Turrell, with whom since 2007 he has headed up a funk/soul/jazz band from North East England. Now he serves up this wicked funk edit on UK label Wack Records, a label he's very much synonymous with. On the A side we have the strong lyrical delivery of Biz Markie on 'Queensbridge', followed on the flip with the block rocking beats of Herma Puma's 'Brooklyn' (Smoove mix).

Pras - "Ghetto Superstar" (feat ODB & Mya) (3:51)
ODB - "Got Your Money" (feat Kelis) (4:01)
Review: American rapper Pras put out his mega-hit 'Ghetto Supastar' back in 1998. It featured the legendary rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard and seductive vocal of r&b singer Mia and was one of the year's biggest hits. The rumbling bassline, the filthiness of ODB and the sweetness of Mia just struck a perfect combo. It's pressed up here on a super little limited edition 7" that is backed with another similarly party-popping hip hop joint. This time ODB takes the lead on 'Got Your Money' while Kelis provides the countering vocal. The crisp boom bap and rough/smooth vocal duo still bangs now.

What's On Your Mind (4:25)
What's On Your Mind (Late Night dub) (4:37)
Review:  Morris Mobley is an alter-ego who makes music that is designed to chill you to the bone while also blowing your mind. Words like suave, cosmopolitan, lustrous and precise all come to mind when listening to the two tracks that make up this tidy 7", the second on the US label CQQL. Opener 'What's On Your Mind' is a low slung, bumping groove with lo-fi production and an aching vocal and on the flip it gets stripped right back and made into a warm, romantic late night dub.

Wild One (vocal) (3:42)
Wild One (instrumental) (3:39)
Review: 10 years after releasing his cut-and-paste style debut album, Bournemouth-based turntablist and serial DMC UK winner DJ X-Rated has finally conjured up a new record. It's something of a treat, too, with party-starting Allergies vocalist Andy Cooper coming along for the ride. He makes his presence felt on the A-side vocal version of 'Wild One', providing short raps and shout outs - many of which are then scratched and manipulated by DJ X-Rated - that pepper a languid, dusty and bouncy beat. The quality of this can be heard loud and clear on the flipside instrumental, which does a great job in showcasing the echoing horn snippets, lazy jazz bassline and sampled guitar riffs.

Good Days (explicit) (4:43)
Good Days (clean) (4:42)
Review: SZA's sophomore 2017 album Ctrl remains one of contemporary r&b's best records of the last decade. It cleared up with awards and has had us hanging on tight for a follow up ever since. There is none on the horizon yet, but there have been a couple of singles in the last year. 'Good Days', on her home label Top Dawg Entertainment comes with clean and dirty versions. The tune has all the glossy synth work and swirling pads you would expect, with SZA's own aching vocals layering in the soul and vulnerability, while warm backing vocals add an extra element of goodness.

Review: Angel Del Villar II, better known by his stage name Homeboy Sandman, is an American rapper from Queens, NYC who is back this time on Mello Music Group to follow up last year's Don't Feed the Monster (w/ Quelle Chris). This one is Anjelitu and the EP was produced by Aesop Rock, who also appears on the album. In a statement shared regarding the project, he said he wrote half of his songs "when my energy was going in the wrong direction or was already there." The title of the EP is a portmanteau of his childhood nickname Angelito and taijitu, the famous Chinese symbol for yin and yang. Featuring the singles "Lice Team Baby" and 'Go Hard', Homeboy Sandman presents another straight-up and fierce selection of underground hip-hop.
