Effects pedals
There are thousands of effects pedals on offer, with something to suit every budget and every sound. Effects pedals – sometimes called stomp boxes or FX – were originally targeted at guitar players, but now there are options for everyone, including pedals designed specifically for bass guitars, synths and vocals. Old-school effects pedals were typically simple analogue effects like distortion, overdrive, fuzz, wah and flangers. Modern pedals might also include digital processing, unlocking complex reverbs, delays, loopers and modulation effects like chorus. Electronic producers should look out for pedals which can handle line-level signals, making it easier to hook up synthesisers, modular synths, drum machines, samplers and other pro studio equipment. Some pedals even offer stereo inputs and outputs, meaning you can use them on true stereo signals.
