CLA10 is Avantone Pro's keenly reworked take on the classic Yamaha NS10M design known from recording studios around the world. The speaker's role is to highlight shortcomings from any mix to appropriate the sound for consumer listening devices such as TVs, radios and in-ear headphones.

The CLA10s are not the easiest of speakers to listen to. They provide a mid-heavy, almost fatiguing sound with limited bass shelving and can, at times, sound clinical to the point of chilliness. However, the benefits of mixing with CLA10s for engineers who stick with them are bountiful, such that if a mix can be made to sound pleasing on this speaker it is almost guaranteed to translate well whatever system the track is played on thereafter.

Avantone Pro took every measure in the design of the CLA10 to physically and sonically match the frequency response, resonance and power of the classic NS10M. The tweeter dome uses the same phenolic resin doping technique to match the original performance curve, whereas the woofer is composed of the same original pulp - sourced from the same original manufacturer. Crossover network capacitors are also set at the same value, and the MDF chassis matches the resonance of the original NS10 exactly.

To ensure uniformity across each new CLA10, Avantone opted for a machine-pressed technique for the AV10LHF woofer (in place of the lapped seam design). Also, whilst the capacitors have been carefully matched, higher quality components for the crossover have been selected for increased life. The speaker's banana plugs have also been upgraded to ensure extra stability and longer-term guarantee.

Notes: The Avantone MixCubes are shielded, full-range mini reference monitors. Their design is inspired by the legacy of the 5C Sound Cubes used in virtually all-major studios for the last 25 years.

Studios primarily use 2-way & 3-way larger monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in this newly developing age of high definition audio, there is still a need to also hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small bass-challenged systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers. Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-range vocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-range monitor without a crossover is truly revealing. Ten months of R&D comparative listening & tweaking went into the voicing of the Avantone MixCubes. The result is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from the original 5C Sound Cubes. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes have a smooth, more open, transparent top end response with extended bass while maintaining their basic original character.

The original 5C Sound Cubes were made of 1/2" particleboard covered with a glue-on wood grain contact paper. Avantone chose to use thicker, denser MDF board because of its high rigidity and inherent low-resonance characteristics. Avantone started with a 165mm (6 1/2") sealed cube design with radiused edges. Avantone then chose an elegant polyurethane high gloss retro-cream finish. The originals had either screws or on later models plastic binding posts mounted on a recessed plastic cup. Avantone upgraded to high-end nickel plated, machined solid metal binding posts (dual banana spacing) mounted on a black anodized, milled and silk-screened aluminum terminal plate. Next Avantone added a 7mm thick neoprene pad embedded into the base of the cabinet to serve as a skid-resistant acoustic isolator. Additionally, for creative mounting situations, Avantone recessed an industry standard 5/8"-27 mic stand mount into the base.

The originals were a basic 5" stamped frame design. Avantone designed a proprietary 5.25" die cast aluminum frame driver/cone assembly to exceed the performance of the originals. The mounting bezel is then polished for an elegant appearance. The paper cone, chosen for its musical character, is custom designed & crafted using the finest New Zealand pulp with mica fibers added for lighter weight & rigidity. The cloth surround is made in Japan to exacting uniform thickness tolerances. The top plate and T-Yoke of driver are made of Sumitomo 1008 low carbon steel enabling the highest modeled flux density in the gap. The magnets are Y- 40 grade (MIL-spec) yielding a 43oz. High power-low distortion motor structure.

Avantone designed the amp module from the ground up to be a true professional-grade amplifier. It incorporates overkill concepts in component selection as well as safety. The result is a no-compromise amp with robust headroom characteristics that will rival the performance of much higher priced studio rack mount amps.

Eve audio opted for a large rear rectangular port with no hard edges for our bass port designs. That's one of the reasons Eve monitors have a high efficiency on the lower frequencies.

The ingenious, flow optimised, reflex port achieves clear deep bass articulation with no compression or port noises. Carefully designed crossover filters with steep roll off feed dedicated amplifiers for each of the low distortion drivers. The 8040B WM includes magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls as standard.

Each 8040B WM comes with an Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler) which eliminates coloration of the sound by decoupling the monitor from its mounting surface. The Iso-Pod also allows the speaker to be angled so that its acoustic axis points directly at the listener. Boasting performance comparable to much larger systems, but in a compact package, the bi-amplified Genelec 8040BPM is ideal for use in many situations where a wide frequency response is needed but space is limited. The 8040BPM features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) with rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8040BPM to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimised cabinet edge diffraction.

Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8040BPM also features the advanced Genelec DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8040BPM's directivity. Genelec designed this specially shaped, very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximised to achieve an astoundingly flat on- and off axis frequency response. As a result, the 8040BPM has an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. This also gives the 8040BPM superb imaging qualities and reduces listening fatigue.

To increase the 8040BPM woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow optimised reflex port. The long, curved tube maximises airflow, so the 8040BPM can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimising port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimised die cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi matte finish and acoustically optimised metal grilles add to the 8040BPM's acoustic excellence.

Genelec's low distortion drivers (6.5" bass speakers and 3/4" metal dome tweeters) are driven by the 8040BPM's dedicated 90 watt bass and treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry, and versatile room response controls are standard.

Thanks to Genelec's ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) power management system, you never have to remember to shut down your 8040BPM monitors again. ISS constantly checks for input signal. After a while, if ISS doesn't detect anything, it switches your 8040BPM over to a low power sleep state, safeguarding your gear and sparing you the wasted electricity.

The versatile mounting features on the 8040BPM include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further M10 thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8040BPM monitor comes with a standard IsoPod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler). The IsoPod is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8040BPM to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The IsoPod also enables the acoustic axis of the monitor to be aimed at the listener while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the monitor from the surface it is resting on.

The HEDD Type 05 mk2 is a 2-way active nearfield studio monitor with a 5" woofer, HEDD Air Motion Transformer, CoP Technology and integrated Lineariser.

The HEDD Type 05 mk2 features two 100 Watt amps to power its 5" woofer and AMT tweeter providing a frequency response of 45Hz to 50kHz and powerful dynamics with max SPL of 112dB.

The Type 05 mk2 also includes HEDD's innovative CoP technology which combines physical plugs to block the ports with FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters giving you the choice between the tighter and accurate transient response of closed cabinets or the increased bass response and higher SPL.

A new HEDD Lineariser function is integrated directly on the speaker, offering phase response correction between tweeter and woofer, for a much tighter and punchier sound. When tracking, in the same room, it is possible to disengage that function to remove the 10ms latency created by the HEDD Lineariser.

When combined with HEDD's subwoofers, a Group Delay Compensation control allows for the adjustment of the distance between the satellites and sub ensuring maximum phase coherence, creating a linear subwoofer/satellite system.

The HEDD Type 05 mk2 is a 2-way active nearfield studio monitor with a 5" woofer, HEDD Air Motion Transformer, CoP Technology and integrated Lineariser.

The HEDD Type 05 mk2 features two 100 Watt amps to power its 5" woofer and AMT tweeter providing a frequency response of 45Hz to 50kHz and powerful dynamics with max SPL of 112dB.

The Sceptre S8 2 way 8" CoActual studio monitor with DSP temporal equalization by PreSonus articulates nuances of your music that can't be reproduced by conventional designs. The Sceptre S8 features a panoramic soundstage and a wide dynamic range. The advanced coaxial design works integrally with a 32bit/96KHz, dual-core processor running Fulcrum Acoustic's TQ Temporal Equalization Technology.

The Sceptre S8 features a 8" low/mid-frequency driver, a 1" horn loaded tweeter and front-firing acoustic ports. The systems are biamplified, with each transducer powered by an independent 100W RMS, Class D power amplifier with an internal heat sink. The Sceptre has an internal power supply and a blue power indicator LED. The S8 studio monitor has a balanced XLR and a 1/4" TRS line-level input with an A-taper level control.

The Coaxial systems, such as the S8, have both drivers on the same axis, providing a single point source for a consistent acoustic center. This results in symmetry of response on both the horizontal and vertical axes, at any given angle. The crossover transition is, therefore, seamless at all angles.

Each Sceptre monitor contains a 32bit/96KHz, dual core, active floating-point DSP chip that powers Fulcrum Acoustic's TQ algorithms. The TQ algorithms use fully addressable Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters to eliminate horn reflections and to correct linear time and amplitude anomalies. Loudspeakers tuned with TQ provide a crisper stereo image, greater soundstage depth, more separation between the elements of a complex mix, increased resistance to feedback, more seamless transitions between distributed loudspeakers, and a less fatiguing listening experience.

The Acoustic Space Control is a second-order shelving filter centered at 100Hz. It can remain flat or attenuate by 1.5dB, 3dB, or 6dB, reducing the boundary bass boost that occurs when the monitor is placed near a wall or corner.

The High-Frequency Driver Adjust switch can boost the tweeter by 1dB, or cut by 1.5dB or 4dB. The High-Pass switch rolls off the lows below a specified frequency, 60, 80, or 100Hz, at a slope of 12dB/octave. This control is important if you are using a subwoofer in conjunction with the Sceptre.

A sensitivity control ranging from +4dBu to -10dBV helps you match the Sceptre to your mixer's outputs.

RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be introduced to the signal and become audible. Sceptre monitors also provide overheat protection, current-output limiting and subsonic protection. The soft startup amplifiers prevent damaging pops from sounding through the speakers when you power them up.

The HS Series embodies the design philosophy on which Yamaha has long insisted for its studio monitors, and is now available as a special paired model that uses selected volume parts.
