Machado, a pioneer of "samba no prato" (samba on cymbals), redefined Brazilian jazz alongside Jobim and Gilberto. Forced into exile under Brazil's dictatorship, he later found new creative energy in NYC, leading an ensemble of top-tier musicians. The result?
