Review: Big Hands, big heart, big ideas; Milan man now based in London Andrea Bonalumi blesses us with his biggest release to date on Beat Machine. Fractured, frazzled and fried in future innovation, we're blindsided by the offbeat bubbles on "Prequel" and shunted and stuttered by disco freakery on "More Than Love". Elsewhere the title track boils things down to a much sludgier, warped and weird shuffle, "Tensegrity" reimagines rave for a modern day jilted generation while "Kick Blood" kicks us down a twisted UKG rabbit hole. "Blood" concludes this extensive extended player both in its breakbeat original form and gun-toting instrumental grime take from Walton. Big.

Review: The seventh volume in Beat Machine's ongoing "Swinging Flavors" series of singles arrives on vibrant turquoise vinyl. This time round, it's a relatively new artist at the controls: Breaka, whose debut 12" on Holding Hands tickled our fancy earlier in the year. Happily, "Damn Hot" lives up to its title, brilliantly joining the dots between the snappy drum machine snares, cut up vocal samples and incessant hustle of Chicago Juke, the crunchy breakbeat since of old school jungle, and the futurist intent of contemporary drum and bass. It's really rather good, all told, with Danny Scrilla's flipside remix - a spacey fusion of intergalactic synthesizer melodies and ruffneck early '90s jungle tropes - also hitting the sweet spot.

Review: Healing Force Project is prolific Italian artist Antonio Marini. Over the last decade he has dropped plenty of heat on the likes of Firecracker, Berceuse Heroique, 2 Headed Deer, Random Numbers and more. Drifted Entities Vol 1 is his latest offering and is an experimental take on dub, cosmic funk, jazz and drum & bass with the HFP signature unifying it all. 'Tiny Germs' opens up on dark, sparse drums that are kinda haunting then 'Upbeat Damage' is a deconctructed jungle jazz cut with squealing synths that bring the horror. The flip side continues in that eerie manner with fresh musicality and loose arrangements drawing you in.

Review: With praise for his wonderfully leftfield but formidably floor-friendly "Ever Orbit" EP on Exit still ringing in his ears, Alex Godoy AKA Itoa pitches up on Italian imprint Beat Machine Records. Appearing on a 7" single - a rarity for a D&B release - "Strange Attractor" sees Godoy wrap indigenous Amazonian flute lines, madcap electronics, metallic percussion noises and creepy strings around a punchy, revivalist jungle rhythm. Long-serving bass-head Sully provides the flipside remix, stripping the cut back to the bare bones (think booming bass, sharply edited mid'90s jungle beats, and those haunting flute style melodies) with impressive results.

Review: Chasing the heat of his mighty "Modulator" EP on Simply Deep, London's J-Shadow dents the discography of Beat Machine with another generous collection of oddities and far-out designs. All writhing around his tech/grime/bass axis, highlights include the MC snippets and Pulse-X style depth plunge breaks, the tabla-style triplets and Indian jungle elements of "Orlov's Casket" and the iceberg dubstep glitches of "Contact". Complete with Gantz on the remix, it's another formidable dispatch from the shady one.

'Fantom' is on some next level spiritual tip with shimmering drums and a hypnotic line that pressurises throughout. It's backed up by three more delicious trips; 'Fade Away' rolls out with persistent kicks beneath a psychedelic sheen, 'Bitch Is Blue' is a Krust-like lullaby for the pranged out 21st century while Tim Reaper brings it home with his own sub-laden 93-flavoured take on the title track. Review: Malaga-based producer Pablo Dread comes to Beat Machine Records for the eleventh edition of the special series Swinging Flavors, this time for the titular 'Hardcore Blips'. It's a limited edition 7" vinyl featuring swanging bassline kicks, shaking us to our core. This is a full-throttle journey hurtling towards uncontrollable euphoria with electrifying vibrations that magnetically pull us into a one-way ticket to ecstasy. The track's old-school rave sound, a hallmark of Dread's productions, immerses us ambiances typical of the 90s, with recurring piano chords that give way to a heavy and strict drum & bass drop. The single features a special remix by Fanu (Janne Hatula), known for his dynamic and evolving rhythms. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Fanu takes a departure from his usual thick chord-driven pieces, opting for a more minimal yet delightfully busy and slightly wonky approach. Drawing inspiration from Luke Vibert, this remix adds a playful and unique twist to the track.

Review: Back in 2018 Soreab debuted on Beat Machine with a heavyweight EP that effortlessly joined the dots between grime, techno and breaks. This belated follow-up - a rare 10-inch EP containing four tracks - is similarly sizable, offering killer club cuts that pitch up grime rhythms to suit peak-time dancefloors. The absolute standout is Parallax collaboration "Wrinkles", a bustling assault on the senses in which the MC's flows rise above a wicked and wayward, sub-heavy backing track. It's accompanied by the moody roller "Watchme" as well as two flipside remixes: the melodious, hazy and otherworldly goodness that is the Basic Rhythm Remix of "Wrinkles", and a deep, chiming Benton take on "Watchme".
