Review: F.U.N. is the first Slum Village album since 2015 so naturally shows the Detroit legends' evolution in that time, but also, thankfully, stays true to their legendary roots. Originally planned as a sample-based project, T3 and Young RJ pivoted and embraced disco and funk influences with live instruments and bold production. Tracks like 'All Live' and 'Keep Dreaming' blend their signature grit with vibrant rhythms while collaborations with Phat Kat, Larry June and Brittney Carter add fresh dimensions. RJ's lush, dynamic beats revitalise the group's sound for the here and now by balancing vintage boom-bap with modern grooves. Nearly a decade later, F.U.N. proves Slum Village's ability to innovate while maintaining their playful, unapologetic ethos.
