VARIOUS
All The Young Droids puns on pre-Bowie collective initiative, diving into the shadowy fringes of early synthpop, and tracing its rise as DIY musicians armed with cheap synths and a punk dispositif transformed sound as we know it in the late 1980s. The collection gathers 24 remastered tracks ranging from bedroom experiments to underground synth anthems, capturing a spectrum from proto-techno punk to ambitious pop flops. It paints a xenon picture of an unmissable era, when synths occupied a contradictory, oscillatory popular headspace, dismissed as plastic by critics yet at the same time championed as sonic generators of the future. Highlights include Gerry & The Holograms' sardonic cuts, Andreas Dorau's teenage breakthrough with Fred Vom Jupiter, and obscure gems by Ian North and Dream Unit.
