Although Bristol's Asusu seems to be a permanent resident of the deepest and darkest caves of the electronic music scene, he's been one of the most important artists to the Livity Sound catalogue in terms of bringing in new flavours and styles with each new release. The club scene outsider returns with a second 12" on his Impasse label blessed with three tunes that blur the lines between techno and electro. The opener "Trephine" is a rugged, swinging power house built with sliding kick drums, intricate moulds of percussion and warm licks off bass. On the B-side, "Dualism" scurries its pieces of glitch and distortion over sombre drones and rattling waves of synths, and "M39" continues down the path of the abstract thanks to a chilling backdrop of sci-fi vocal samples and alien-like sonics. A spectacular blend of sounds, and warmly recommended.
