Bernard Purdie's Soul To Jazz (reissue) vinyl

Having provided the beats for an estimated 3000 plus albums, many of them by legendary artists like Aretha Franklin and Steely Dan, Bernard Purdie's reputation as a drummer was significant enough for him to assemble his own ensemble at WDR Studios in Cologne, Germany in March 1996. The idea for this album was to take soul classics like Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' and 'When A Made Loves A Woman', initially made famous by Percy Sledge, and kick them around the improvisation room. Although the arrangements are tight and economic, there's plenty of life to the playing, and of course, the drumming is just about as good as it gets.
