Bob Dylan's Bootleg Series has done a great job in charting his lengthy career through outtakes, demos, alternate takes and live recordings. The latest volume, a vast five-disc affair accompanied by a 100-page book, chronicles the iconic singer-songwriter's musical adventures in the first half of the 1980s. Dylan released a trio of sets in that time, and while none are among his most celebrated sets, there's an argument to say they've been badly treated. Certainly, there's previously buried treasure to be found across all five discs, with notable highlights including the 12-minute ramble of 'New Danville Girl', a different version of 'Jokerman' that's arguably better than the released version and two contrasting versions of 'Too Late'. We could do without the unlikely cover of 'Sweet Caroline', mind.
