Rising out of West London's squatland, Killing Joke revolutionised the post-punk landscape, bringing the terrorquake frequencies and spaciousness of dub culture into the boiling anger of punk. This, their debut album, surfaced in 1980 and appropriately marked a new chapter in guitar music, Paul Ferguson's unique guitar sound going on to inspire everyone from Kurt Cobain to The Edge, Jaz Coleman's wonderfully paranoid worldview predicting the global meltdown pretty accurately and Youth's basslines later proving to be the template for The Orb's adventures in the electronic ultraworld. There are tons of great songs too though, 'Requiem' and 'Wardance' in particular being anthems that have endured the 40 years unscathed, remaining highlights of their live show.
