Ron Jefferson's Ron Jefferson Choir album was a commercial failure. But as any music lover knows, that doesn't say anything of its actual quality. The rather short lived-band led by New-York drummer Ron Jefferson got together in Paris in the mid sixties. He put out a solo album on Pacific Jazz in 1962, then made the trip for this album and earned his crust playing with popular pianists of the time such as Errol Parker or Hazel Scott. After a particular impressive show, Polydor asked Jefferson for this album. It came after a trip to Senegal that has clearly impacted on the rhythms and afro-eastern explorations.
