Ukrainian newcomer Shjva makes techno with a slimy, arboreal edge, and their second release 'Northern Lights' here is no exception, lending a unique edge to every trick in the book from hardcore, breaks-driven acid to more sodden, understated hinterlands. Given the title, it's implied that the tracks here were inspired by the natural photoillusory phenomenon known as the aurora borealis, and the sounds are just as exciting as witnessing such an event; 'Traect' in particular sounds like the burgeoning, blossoming sound of green, ectoplasmic light ricocheting across an expansive tundra.
