Review: Long-running British band Nucleus were undoubtedly a unique proposition, with bandleader Ian Carr pioneering a unique blend of jazz-fusion, jazz-rock, progressive rock and psychedelia that didn't so much blur boundaries but shred them to pieces. 1974 set Under The Sun, which here gets a much needed reissue, remains one of the finest sole examples of Carr and company's hybrid style. Over the course of the album, the collective flitted between up-tempo, jazz-funk-fired workouts, deep and melancholic treats, and wilder fare that drew more influenced from rock and psychedelic music. The album-concluding three-part suite of 'Themes', which adorns side two, is particularly mesmerising.
