Human Space Machine - "Persist" (6:39)
OK EG - "Dual Path" (7:15)
Review: Deeper shades of a finely sifted pedigree. Irish label Appian Sounds, helmed up by Al Blayney, champion only winnowed techno sounds, not threshed. A welcome international team huddle in, with these six artists from locales as far-flung as Amsterdam and Valencia contributing the likes of 'Tsuneo' and 'Persist'. The tunes verge melodic as they move through and beyond jankiness, distending die-cut acids and subtly synthetic humanisations, especially in the percussion department. 'Fuego' is the zen roshi's choice, its gaffered, glass-smithed pads topping off a naturalistic percussive surging forward, one best experienced with your eyes closed.

Review: For the label's first compilation, Cabaret Records has decided to introduce us to their Alien Family. By the sounds of the collection, they're a motley crew of studio mutants united by a love of creaking hardware, sci-fi synths and intergalactic dancefloor workouts. Happily, highlights are plentiful, from the acid-fired, bleep-heavy throb of S-Audio's "Remote Circuit" and weighty electro crackle of Binh's "Wova", to the dreamy underwater deepness of EK Box's "Watair" and the classic deep house/Detroit techno fusion of So Inagawa's futurist masterpiece "Solitary Affair". Evan Baggs's contribution, the TB-303 madness that is "AZS", is also superb.

Nachtwald - "Bring Back The Night" (4:15)
Spectrums Data Forces - "Darkness In My Head" (6:04)
EC13 - "Profundo" (Interludio) (0:49)
Wicked Wes - "X1000" (feat Space Frogs From Saturn) (5:48)
Review: Granada's Cosmic Tribe know the definition of "electro" in its broadest sense; their new Xtrictly Electro comp keeps the dystopian sound endemic to the genre's most present incarnation, but refuses to restrict itself to one tempo: the standard 130-ish that has sadly infected the otherwise genius genre as a necessity. An international splinter cell of spec-ops and mercenaries are recalled from retirement here, as we hear Calagad 13, Nachtwald, EC13 and many more mechanoid ilk lay down all manner of slick utilities, making up a morbid multi-tool. 5zyl brings further lasery Lithuanian steeze on 'Vilnius Bass', whilst Spectrums Data Forces betrays the existence of a sinister corporate entity, whose business model works towards the object of instilling 'Darkness In My Head' through giant, killer mozzy basses.

Exhausted Modern - "Fear Of Focus" (3:31)
Fragedis - "Landing In Reality" (5:54)
Happy707 - "Where Does That Noise Come From" (4:28)
Review: Menacing EBM and dark synth billows from a Netherlands hinterland; our heralds speak of an esoteric encampment by the name of Espectro Oculto, said to be the remote incantators of an unstoppable curse in sound. Six shadowy emissaries have been sent to spread the pestilence; Trenton Chase, Martial Canterel, DJ Nephil, Exhausted Modern, Fragedis and Happy707. Clearly, the faction have recruited only the best, trusted and yet most nefarious of spies from as far-flung regions as Czechia and Argentina in the administering of such a sordid sonic plague. We're left most quivery at the centrifugal doom drones of Exhausted Modern's 'Fear Of Focus', across whose breakdown banshees are heard wailing and snarling, and Fragedis' 'Landing In Reality', a lo-fi techno freakout and sonochemical anomaly, channeling militant two-way radio samples and hellish FM synthesis.

Exocet - "Nitrogen" (4:59)
Holy Ghost Inc - "Walking On Air" (4:30)
Exocet - "Overdose" (4:57)
Primea Facey - "Poverty Line" (4:18)
Review: The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on.

Pads & Frogs (8:56)
Rise Up (5:35)
Life Begins Now (8:10)
Neidan (7:07)
Review: Producer E-Talking (Emmanuel Corre) has consistently kept his craft cosmic and acidic, and his latest EP for Love On The Rocks, 'The Cosmic Egg', keeps up that theme no less. The idea of the cosmic egg is a metaphor for the start-point of the universe itself; the received wisdom of our day asks us to imagine a 'big bang', a necessary start-point. Dauta follows this theory to its logical conclusion: what, then, did the universe hatch from? Glaucous, dramatic trance-dancers drip wet with incipient liquids and broken godly waters, as cascading acid wonderments like 'Neidan' and 'Rise Up' abound in infinite space.

Desilu (4:27)
The Highway (4:25)
Frisco (0:52)
The Move (1:43)
Review: For the uninitiated, Flaunt Edwards is the electro-focused alias of long-serving American hip-hop producer Jason Jackson, best known for his work as J Rocc. This Leaving Records outing is his first Flaunt Edwards outing since 2013 and, at six tracks deep, his most expansive set of bootleg reworks to date. He begins by giving a Kraftwerk and bustling ghetto-electro makeover on "No Fun" before reaching for the throbbing synth-bass, lilting synth lines and sweet female vocal samples on "Anymore". "Desilu" is a hazy, four-to-the-floor chunk of mambo-sampling madness, while "The Highway" is a ludicrously fast-paced re-imagining of Kraftwerk's "Computer World" with added pitched-down vocal sludginess. The EP closes with a pair of quick fixes; electro DJ tools that tend towards the odd and mind-altering.

Night Of The Ceremony (7:12)
Meeting Mycela (5:47)
Sorceress Cube (8:01)
Core Exit (7:06)
Review: Ekkel's 'Night Of The Ceremony' offers a fresh take on psy trance, blending elements of breakbeat, acid lines, and sci-fi atmospheres for a forward-thinking sonic experience. The title track, 'Night Of The Ceremony', sets the tone with an eerie melody and pulsating acid line, wrapped in breakbeat energy, creating a sci-fi-inspired soundscape that pulls listeners into its orbit. 'Meeting Mycela' follows, delivering an intelligent and melodic psy trance track that showcases Ekkel's refined production skills, combining intricate rhythms with a hypnotic flow. On Side-2, 'Sorceress Cube' dives deep into mystical territory, merging psy with deep techno vibes, resulting in a track that feels both grounded and otherworldly. 'Core Exit' closes the EP with a nod to 90s trance, offering crisp production, celestial sounds and an expansive, spacey feel. Altogether, 'Night Of The Ceremony' is a well-rounded and dynamic EP that pushes the boundaries of modern psy trance.

Crystal Creek (7:19)
Salamander (6:58)
Spore Core (6:10)
Review: Sporecore is certainly a fashion aesthetic and/or sound yet to be explored; South Korean producer Ekkel (Minwoo Lee) seems determined to flesh it out beyond its tipping point. Paying tribute to the earliest progressive trance releases a-la Bonzai Records or Skinnymalinky, 'Crystal Creek', 'Salamander' and 'Spore Core' are about as infectious musically as cordyceps is fungally. Rather than opting for heavy drops or piano-laden ecstasies, these three numbers are more like moody acid undulators, as if to evoke the underground fungal networks that (did you know?) make up some of the largest unified organisms on the planet.

Review: Alan C Hill is the man behind Elliptical Headz and he released just one record back in 1993. It came on the similarly short-lived Junkanoo Recordings label but became something of a classic of the trance techno era. With those sounds very much back in fashion these days with the younger DJs and dancers it's no wonder the record gets a repress - especially as finding an OG is tough these days and so will cost you a few quid. The tunes mix up some Goa-style tribal cuts with hard melodic trance vibes and plenty of euphoric synth work.

No Return (6:14)
Review: Since emerging from Thessaloniki's underbelly in the mid-2010s, Endlec has carved out a reputation for punishing, no-frills techno rooted in the discipline of the 90s. A regular on Mord and MindTrip, he's long been a reliable source of dancefloor artilleryibut this one marks a shift. Self-released on his Renegade Methodz imprint, this debut album spans a full decade of experience, pulling together tracks made between late 2023 and October 2024. 'Omicron' and 'Clockmaker' are classic Endlecirelentless and tactileiwhile 'Sunday To Monday' and 'In Negative' draw from a deeper well, brushing up against melody and restraint. 'Mechanizer' grooves with mechanical tension, and 'No Return' rides a punishing loop without ever losing momentum. More refined than anything he's done before, it's a brutalist record with emotional depth, capturing an artist at a point of hard-won maturity.

Review: Legendary Belgian label WeMe links up with the esteemed EOD here for a special release. It finds them pressing to vinyl some previously Bandcamp only tracks from EOD. Across the six glorious sides of wax are three volumes made up of " dreams captured from the two slumbering mainframes of inner earth, TG-77 and D-550." The vibe is otherworldly, with silky techno grooves, futuristic synth work and post-jungle, hyper speed rhythms all providing the carriages on which you travel ever further away from planet earth. It's a wide ranging album that provides a whole wealth of sound for every sort of occasion on the dance floor.

Congo Get Slap (Mark Ernestus remix) (7:11)
Flagged Up (Mark Ernestus remix) (9:33)
Review: The DDS label, short for Distort Decay Sustain, has given artists like Demdike Stare a platform on which to express themselves through over the years, but it was really Equiknoxx's LP from 2016, Bird Sound Power, which opened their doors to a whole new category of listener. In fact, it was that LP, with all its stunning, dub-wise experimentation, which has led to Mark Ernestus being called up for a pair of remixes. As you probably know, this is a rare case, so this 12" is sort of a special piece - "Congo Get Slap" is given the pure Ernestus rundown, with a charging, minimalistic percussion being swallowed whole by the raucous dub stabs caving in from all angles; the remix of "Flagged Up" is a much slower, more brooding affair in the same vein as the mythical cuts residing on imprints like Basic Channel and Chain Reaction - nothing but deep, meditative dub flexing for the mind. BIG!

Review: An experimental techno hexagram in LP form from Stockholm artist Evigt Morker. Without so much as a hint of context, the techno dark-shooter here drops his third LP for resident label Northern Electronics as a surprise, and the result is rather stunning. A bleary set of impressions, some tunes on this record clip the top edge of the mix, chinking our emotive armour. The effect is gastric, dehiscent, exuding bile: 'Hemilga Eldar' leaves us dumbstruck by its ambient eventidal winds and strangely sprawled drum shapes, while 'Sokaren Hittade' combines nyctophile cantos with electric twangs. The closer 'Det Blaser En Vind...' is a headland of humility, letting in much longer gusts of tuned air.

Thomas P. Heckmann - "Days Off Buzz" (7:23)
Bloody Mary - "Fractal Waves" (5:22)
E-bony - "303 Elements" (5:35)
Hardfloor - "I'll Never Own A Helicopter" (6:00)
Review: Celebrating a fifteen-year journey, this Berlin label - founded by a producer, DJ and live act Bloody Mary - has become a cornerstone for the acid techno community, revolving around its founder's deep connection to the sound which, while born in the 80s, continued to shape techno in the 1990s. As a Tresor resident and advocate of the scene's roots, her influence has brought together a few of the most iconic artists in the sound to help create a compelling acid-driven compilation. Opening the release is 'Days Off Buzz' from Mainz-based Thomas P Heckmann - best known for his 'Amphetamine' anthem - which proves to be a powerhouse track brimming with intensity and dark energy, the driving acid lines and thumping rhythm definitely echoing to his legendary role in shaping the genre. Next, the founder herself delivers 'Fractal Waves', a perfect blend of breakbeat textures and reverberating 303s, capturing a classic acid vibe with a fresh twist. On Side-2, E-Bony's '303 Elements' taps into mid-90s rave nostalgia with swirling acid layers and hypnotic momentum, nodding to early pioneers while carving its own path. Hardfloor close the compilation with 'I'll Never Own A Helicopter', where their signature intertwined 303s create a dazzling interplay of rhythm and melody, embodying their status as acid legends. Rooted in history yet pushing boundaries, this collection exemplifies why the label remains essential to the techno landscape.

Syrte - "Tardigrade Pomona" (5:11)
Francois Dillinger - "Swordholde" (5:18)
Review: EC Underground is back with more inquisitors of low-end heavy sounds on Bass Scene Investigation vol 1 and again digs deep into the worlds of electro, techno, breakbeat and IDM. The compilation kicks off with the skittish percussive patterns of Illektrolab's 'Making Heads Dip', then heads into moody ground with ADJ, Pablo Funk brings some menacing synth work and Errorbeauty gets all weird and trippy with some mad electronics. Francois Dillinger offers a dystopian electro sound full of irresistibly jacked-up drums. A fine investigation indeed.

Erik Jabari - "Screamore" (4:43)
Review: Tresor joins forces with Carhartt - a company that can trace its roots back to the Motor City - to celebrate techno's two premier cities, Detroit and Berlin. The formula is devilishly simple: brand new cuts from artists based in one of the two cities, with stone-cold legends being joined by rising stars. There are headline-grabbing contributions from Juan Atkins as Model 500 (the warped, alien, dub-flecked and Cybotron-esque electrofunk of 'I.D.L.E') and DJ Stingray 313 (the industrial electro clank of 'Dynamic Instability'), plus fine contributions from JakoJako (the early morning techno hypnotism of 'Metal Goat'), AMX (the wonderfully hazy, deep and dubbed-out electro shuffle of 'Your Body') and Erik Jabari (the mind-mangling modular madness of 'Screamore').

Oceanic - "Cable Crew" (Draaimolen 2022 Theme) (4:42)
Nicola Cruz - "Drom" (5:22)
Human Space Machine & Mary Lake - "Trck_04" (4:52)
Arkajo & Dorisburg - "Dawn" (6:57)
Evigt Morker - "Levande Och Dreglande" (3:42)
Lenxi - "Protect Myself" (3:43)
Review: Representing the best of the current Dutch scene, leading leftfield label Nous'Klaer Audio links up with top-tier festival Draaimolen. This heavyweight 12" features a generous swathe of talent who all appeared on the label's Aura stage at this year's edition of the end of season highlight. Oceanic leads the way with the gorgeous, shimmering exploration of 'Cable Crew', which also served as the 2022 theme for Draaimolen. Nicola Cruz delivers that signature strain of mutant tech house which we can't get enough of, while Human Space Machine and Mary Lake join forces for the steppy, bleepy workout 'Trck_04'. Arkajo and Dorisburg deliver on their shared reputation as deep-diving psychonauts in the field of modern deep techno, Evigt Morker nestles into micro slithers of fractured rhythm and Lenxi folds pop and glitch into a compelling whole to cap off a standout record.
