Review: UK IDM duo Steve Rutter and Michael Golding aka B12 continue on with their new found winning streak and another brilliant release on their FireScope imprint. "In Vain" features Yonii's sultry vocals accompanied a minimal and bass heavy arrangement that calls to mind the 'grey area' experiments by the Autonomic crew several years back while also on the A side we've got the lush dark ambient journey "Shotgun" which perfect compliments the vibe of this vocalist's truly amazing vocal range. On the flip "Sympathy Beatz" deconstructs UK bass music with subtle pop-inflections much like dBridge did some time ago on this catchy number while "Moth Beatz" distills the A side track into its essence brilliantly.

Review: The second Murder Records EP is another uncompromising collection of brutalist techno. The Tbilisian label enlists Fractions & Zanias to open up with a stormy flurry of synths and frosted drums then Alessandro Adriani layers up more mechanical drums that demand you march while the brine frying synths melt your mind up top. Years of Denial then looks to EBM for its inspiration on 'Reverie' with deadpan vocals and haunting cold wave synths. This is caustic and coruscated stuff from start to finish that is best heard loud, in a super blackened and raw space.

Review: The cultured ESHU label has pulled other some more tasteful talents for this four track 'Conrexture' EP. It opens up with Julien Fuentes's 'Jah Justice' (Klaridub Ambient mix) which is a nice atmospheric opener with some conscious dub mutterings and sci-fi pads. Jocelyn & Yasin Engwer then kick on with some watery, sub-aquatic minimal dub tech bliss in the form of 'Sticks & Stones', Voal gets even more dark and dirty with some grubby dub basslines on 'Eight Ball' and Ivano Tetelepta/Christine Benz layer up watery droplets, melodic whistles, static electricity and rubbery rhythms to mind-melting perfection on 'Supreme.'

Review: Having put out two EPs on a self-titled imprint, Berlin-based duo I/Y kick off the Fracture series with a no-nonsense banger that should reverberate comfortably around their home town, and any spaces with a similar propensity for tough but moody techno. "0000.030" almost comes on trancey with its throbbing square wave bassline, keeping restrained even as a thunderous kick powers away beneath. Tripeo livens things up considerably with a remix that spits and snarls with a comparative candescence, piling on brittle drum lines to hammer the point home. Whether you want to seduce the crowd or brutalise them, this record has got what you need.

Review: As you probably know, Lempuyang is a vital techno label that puts out a lot of music. Amongst that is the annual compilation series which again in 2024 is split over a pair of 12"s. Pura Lempuyang Telu Part 1 is packed with new material as well as a cult cut from the vaults that has been remastered. That is Martin Jarl's deliciously deep 'Weetabix' while Yagya keeps it heady with 'Gogur Dagur', Ohm & Octal Industries lay down icy dub techno on 'Chanti's Dream' and Paolo Zuliani's 'Facing Reality' is a more upright and steely closer.

Review: Rhythm Section International is one of the scene's most influential and therefore respected labels. Its Shouts 2021 compilation has already got plenty of plaudits and for good reason. It is a diverse selection from sure to be star names such as Liluzu who opens with the slow and snaking house of 'Nano.' Elsewhere Nidia brings a richly melodic perspective to some loose broken beats on 'Celebration' and Klein Sage's 'The Sayers' is a superbly vibes, stripped back bit of jazzy basement house with finger clicks to die for and a great monologue that pokes fun at plenty.

Review: For this split EP, Primitive World's "Purple Caps" combines the kicking beats of Mike Dehnert with the percussion of Myles Serge, then screws it all up like Hieroglyphic Being would under his IBM alias. Primitive World, who's released once before on Black Acre, then provides a linear and evolving "Tides Of Lust" which follows a similar formula, only the break down this time is far more decipherable in a radical, grungy kind of way. Recent Creme addition Yor dips into some acid mixed with some post-punky vibes wrapped up to fit the house music mould in "Rites Of Passage I", while "Rites Of Passage II" is a deep house banger that runs and runs.

Review: This joint EP titled 'SPOOR 3' by artists Prince De Takicardie and Young Adults showcases a diverse range of electronic music styles, from eerie techno to celestial breakbeats. Prince De Takicardie's 'ALLO?' opens the EP with a strange and captivating narrative voiceover set to a backdrop of sci-fi techno. The track's heavy acid and melodic breaks create an otherworldly atmosphere. Their second track 'Yoho!', is a more upbeat and playful early 90s techno number with mechanical undertones. Young Adults' contributions offer a different sonic experience. 'Rub-a-scrub' is an alien and trance-inducing track with a strong baseline, while 'Dielektricum' is a spacey electro number. Overall, 'SPOOR 3' is a well-crafted and diverse EP that showcases the talents of both artists well and all four tracks offer a journey through different electronic music landscapes, providing something for every taste.

Review: OHM Series is the brainchild of established Copenhagen-based techno artist Bjarnar Jonsson, founded in 2021. The imprint's inaugural release features a lineup of expert engineers in the dub techno field: Macedonia's Stojche kicks things off on the first side with the galloping and glacial groove of 'Cellar', then the label boss teams up with veteran Nordic producer Thor on the deep and cavernous mood music of 'Skuggahverfi'. Over on the flip, you've got Waage taking the tempo down a rather ghostly trail on the paranoid and tunnelling trip of 'B1' and closing it out with Yagya who delivers something more straight ahead on the surefire execution of 'Nebolous Egress'.

Ten Years Of One Part 1 (12")

Review: It's now accepted that label anniversary compilations and EPs should be stacked with high-grade cuts, preferably offered up by sizable or notable artists. Even so, there's something extra-special about this first part of Digbeth-based One Records' 10th anniversary EP series. Fittingly, it begins with a fresh cut from label stalwart Subb-an, a suitably heavy chunk of locked-in, early morning techno titled "Sunrise Mood", before continuing via the cut-up breakbeat fills, spacey electronics and warehouse-ready analogue bass of Adam Pits' "Pungent Method". Over on side B, Los Angeles-based Steve Urulu serves up the groovy, percussion-rich deep house/techno fusion of retro-futurist treat "Mollare Qualcuno", while Yamen & Eda drift their way through the deep breakbeat-house shuffle of "Last Dance".

Review: Lyree is a freshly minted label from Berlin, helmed by Italian DJ and part-time poet Valerio Polani. The imprint's first missive is quietly impressive all told, with Polari offering up a quartet of cuts from like-minded producers. Conrad Van Orton kicks things off with "Due Di Marzo", a distinctively rugged, raw-sounding and industrial inspired techno number reminiscent of Lory D's brand of mangled madness, before Norbak weighs in with the thunderous drums and throbbing metallic sounds of "Coping Strategies". VSK's "Blue Methylene" is a frankly frightening and foreboding strut through warped and mind-mangling late-night techno, while Yanamaste's "LSD" is the techno equivalent of having a bad trip while speeding through the pitch-black German countryside.
