The first single, 'Clock no Clock,' is a deep dive into hypnotic rhythms, with guimbri grooves intertwining seamlessly with electronic bursts, flutes and organs. Review: Four years, a lot of gigs, and a change of lineup are all that have stood between Vyvyd and The Uncanny Extravaganza. New Candys triumphant return after the best part of a half decade is exactly that, unleashing some of the most powerful tracks in their oeuvre after no less than two years spent writing, recording and producing them. Which is ironic, given the raw, unfettered distortion that makes much of what's here so compelling and utterly devastating. It would sound off-the-cuff, it it weren't so complex. The Uncanny Extravaganza is one of those records that makes you genuinely excited about the prospect of seeing a band live again. It's loud - even if you've got the volume down - and its disharmonious, it's soaring and distant yet immediate and up front. It's psyche-infused garage rock with a dusting of raucous shoegaze (if that's possibly a thing), at times nodding to the likes of Ringo Deathstar or Death In Vegas, in other moments Spiritualised. Or maybe that's just us.

Review: The fifth album from Newcastle's finest heavy riff providers Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, Pigs is a must for those moved by the band's live shows over the past few years. Black Sabbath-inspired crashing riffs, growling vocals and body lurching songs that are served up with ease as the band give the listener the intended 'slap in the face' producer and guitarist Sam Grant promised. Early release 'Stitches' comes just over a year since their previous album Land of Sleeper and Death Hilarious continues the frantic momentum the band have set themselves. An Exhilarating album that sounds even angrier than ever leaving the listener gasping for breath by the end. Run the Jewels EI-P features on 'Glib Tongued', a track the band felt had a hip-hop feel to it when presented to them by bassist John-Michael Hedley. Review: Ahhhh. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs don't miss a trick, do they? Kings of grinding guitar riffs, and probably the loudest thing to roar out of Newcastle since The Wildhearts were upstarts, 2025's follow up to the stunning Land of Sleeper breaks from it predecessor's focus on headphone listening and launches itself into the real world with the snarling ferocity of a wolf that was injured, got nursed back to health, and now wants some revenge. Death Hilarious certainly tastes sweet enough, although it's anything but cold. Guaranteed to make you sweat like a pig - you get the point... this is dense, thick, unrelenting psyche-metal that owes plenty to pioneers like Sabbath and Motorhead, but makes no secret of the fact these North Easterners are looking to nobody for their sound. An original powerhouse.

Review: The Newcastle five-piece double down on doom, derision and distortion in their most scathing record yet. Death Hilarious flails between cosmic thrash, anxious noise rock and Sabbath-sized sludge, driven by Matt Baty's sneering vocals and a rhythm section that sounds like it's eating itself alive. 'Blockage' bursts out the gates like an angry sermon, while 'Toecurler' stretches into hypnotic, post-metal territory. 'Stitches' has a twisted glam feel, like a battered Motorhead tape rewound with cheap synths, and 'Glib Tongued' throws a curveball: a blistering feature from El-P over jagged guitar loops. The band's sharpest move here is restraintipiano motifs and synth lines creep in under the wreckage, giving moments like 'Carousel' and 'The Wyrm' a strange solemnity. It's unrelentingly heavy but never cartoonish, embracing dread with clarity, and proof Pigs x7 are still levelling up, even as they gnaw at their own nerves.

Review: Sometimes, Record Store Day releases really do come through, and this is one of them as it unearths extremely rare 1988 demo recordings from alt-rock trailblazers Royal Trux, previously only circulated on a handful of cassettes in 1998. Now available for the first time on wax, the collection captures the raw, unfiltered energy that preceded their breakthrough Twin Infinitives and features early versions of 'Walkin' Machine,' 'Cut You Loose,' 'Gold Dust' and a cover of Neil Young's 'Time Fades Away,' These demos really give you a window into the band's formative chaos and brilliance and highlight the uncompromising vision that made Royal Trux such favourites.

Review: Sacred Mushroom's debut is a blues-rock gem that shows the raw energy and talent of the Cincinnati-based quintet, led by Larry Goshorn and his brother Danny Goshorn. While their name might hint at psychedelia, the album leans heavily into blues traditions, paired with tight arrangements and flashes of rock ingenuity. Originals like 'Catatonic Lover', have an infectious energy and intricate chord progressions reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane, while 'All Good Things Must End' delivers a soulful Chicago blues waltz enhanced by Rusty Work's spirited harmonica. The funky opener, 'I Don't Like You', brims with dynamic harmonies and sharp guitar work that sets the tone for the album. Covers are equally impressive; their rendition of the Kinks' 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else' adds a fresh, acoustic-electric interplay and timeless melodic charm. On the extended 'Lifeline' and the driving 'Mean Old World,' the band channels the electric blues of Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Review: If you roll the clock back ten years and more you'd be made to think you're crazy for saying Ty Segall will release country-inflected soft rock one day. He was making the very best feral sweaty garage rock quite consistently. But you know what? The new look suits him well and his Warren Zevon-era is cool. 'Fantastic Tomb' is a string and horn-laden romp that will liven up any home that's lucky enough to have it played within its four walls. The fallout from this will most likely be that the curtain is closing on all the neo-psych and garage rock and more bands are likely to follow in line with this type of sound. This is at the forefront of a new wave of country/Americana-tinged alt-rock that started when Black Lips did it ironically but is now gaining momentum in more sincere, yet still flamboyant ways.
