Jay Sound - "Reflections Of Love" (feat Josefine) (6:33)
Review: Fusion Sequence is a new offshoot from the Mellophonia label that kicks off with a heavyweight release both literally - its 180g vinyl - and metaphorically. It features seven different artists offering up one track each on what is a widescreen exploration of fresh deep house. They are A Vision of Panorama, Eternal Love, Pool Boy, Wolfey, Laseech, Larry Quest and Jay Sound and between them everything from cuddly depths to more moody late-night deepness is covered on an EP that brings plenty of new perspectives. A fine inaugural 12", then.

Review: The debut recording from The Ancients, an intergenerational trio featuring Isaiah Collier, William Hooker and William Parker initially formed to play Milford Graves' Mind Body Deal exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. This double LP captures the raw energy and improvisational brilliance of their live performances, showcasing the enduring legacy of free jazz. Collier's tenor saxophone soars and wails, drawing on influences from John Coltrane to Charles Gayle, while grounding his explorations in a deep understanding of structure and form. Hooker's drumming is a force of nature, a whirlwind of polyrhythms and explosive energy that pushes the music to its limits. And Parker, a true legend of the avant-garde, anchors the music with his virtuosic bass playing, creating a foundation for the trio's improvisational flights. The music is both a celebration of the rich history of free jazz and a bold exploration of new sonic territory. The Ancients tap into the spirit of their predecessors, channeling the energy of the Cecil Taylor Unit and the Ornette Coleman Trio, while forging their own unique path, the power of collective improvisation looming large throughout.

Review: Made up of Jun Miyake and Ichiko Aoba's live sessions held in Tokyo in November 2016 and the following February 2017, Pneuma consists of valuable recordings that had only been released in high-resolution format for distribution; the record is now finally released in vinyl format here on P-Vine. The first performance in January featured Tatsuhisa Yamamotoon on drums and the second in February made up a quartet formation with the addition of bassist Hitoshi Watanabe. The two ultra-talented musicians provide us a glimpse into how the music of Jun Miyake and Ichiko Aoba is made and this record breathes into their practice a new life.

Review: This trio performance from saxophonist Peter Brotzmann, drummer Milford Graves and double bassist William Parker now gets a look back via Black Editions, and captures a moment in time when greater synergy between jazz musicians might have been possible. Broadcast from the front room of CBGBs in 2002, this is the first ever recording of the band playing together, mainly cementing Graves' chops and standing as an immensely great drummer and worthy of his place in the percussive hall of fame. Graves lives up - our through - to his Thurston Moore-dubbed "living myth" status, with each musician feeding off each other in an impossibly timeless, rare, and sleek New York jass standoff.

Review: It only seems like yesterday when Nick Cave delivered his wonderfully captivating joint piece with fellow-Australian Bad Seed Warren Ellis. In fact it was early March, and since then we've all likely been through the kinds of highs and lows this record reflects so accurately. There's a lot of space to Carnage, but it's also an album of intensity, in a refined and sophisticated way.

Packed with incredibly cinematic, theatrical and dramatic moments, at its loudest 'White Elephant' is bordering on a genuinely euphoric religious experience, one rousing and hugely emotional crescendo of chorus and big stage notes after another. At its quietest, 'Shattered Ground' sounds like one man alone with a piano and eternal sadness. Meanwhile, the title track is classic troubadour business. In summary, a grand, mesmerising and personal voyage.

Review: Nick Cave and Warren Ellis's soundtrack for the National Geographic documentary about an imagined 2033 manned mission to Mars feels like a sketch for the atmospheric soundscapes of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' 2016 album Skeleton Tree. Both works inhabit the same dark-hued, super-charged sonic atmosphere. Cave's cinematic music, enriched by Ellis's imaginative contributions, explores a wide range of sounds: distorted guitars in 'Space X,' sibylline keyboard arpeggios in 'Space Station,' and vast synthesized swathes evoking space's void. 'Planetarium' features soulful drones and synthesized strings, creating anticipation and stillness. With few vocals, this ambient soundtrack is perfect for chilling out and daydreaming. It's a departure from the intense emotions of the Bad Seeds, reflecting Cave's inward focus after personal tragedy. Unlike many soundtracks, this one stands apart, integral to Cave and Ellis's collaboration, and can be savored without thinking about Mars. Now available on vinyl for the first time!

Three performances at the Sydney Opera House on December 16-18 were the climactic shows of an emotional trip, captured for a new live album, Australian Carnage - Live At The Sydney Opera House. Cave himself said of the project: "Every show was moving and unforgettable, from the intimacy of playing in theatres and arts centres, to the vast and uplifting nights at Hanging Rock, through to our final three nights at the inimitable Sydney Opera House."

Review: The second album from Vijay Iyer and Wadada Leo Smith on ECM is a meditation on resilience, sorrow and the human condition. Across four expansive tracks on Defiant Life, Iyer's piano and Fender Rhodes intertwine with Smith's haunting trumpet to create a soundscape that's both urgent and serene. From the solemn depth of 'Sumud' to the shimmering melancholy of 'Floating River Requiem' and the radiant close of 'Procession: Defiant Life' notions of suffering, resistance and hope are explored. The record was recorded in Lugano and produced by Manfred Eicher. It's a deeply reflective work of emotional and spiritual resonance.

Review: The Evil Curse Of The Vampires remains an all-time classic in the pantheon of early 80s dub albums. There have been some wranglings between Greensleeves and Scientist, commonly credited to this album which he mixed, but now the credit rests with Henry 'Junjo' Lawes who was credited as producer. Either way, the music remains unchanged, resting heavy on Channel One's sharp-shooting Roots Radics band to lay down the tracks, and with a second disc carrying some brilliant vocal turns from Michael Prophet, Wayne Jarrett, Johnny Osbourne and many more. Seminal stuff for anyone who takes their dub seriously.

Review: Paul McCartney's long-lost project, One Hand Clapping, is finally seeing a near-complete release 50 years after its inception. Filmed and recorded over four days in August 1974 at Abbey Road Studios, the sessions feature a new Wings lineup with Paul, Linda, Denny Laine, Jimmy McCulloch, and drummer Geoff Britton, alongside Del Newman and Howie Casey. The album includes recent hits like 'Live and Let Die,' 'Band on the Run,' and 'Jet,' alongside Beatles classics 'Let It Be,' 'The Long and Winding Road,' and 'Lady Madonna.' Denny Laine covers the Moody Blues' 'Go Now' and Paul revisits 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and the Tin Pan Alley classic 'Baby Face.' Previously unreleased, except for a few tracks scattered over the years, One Hand Clapping is now available as beautiful packages with exclusive solo performances recorded in the backyard of Abbey Road. This release is a nostalgic treat for McCartney and Wings fans that harnesses the band at a unique moment in their storied career.

He worked with the Wynton Kelly Trio back in the mid-sixties and that is when he played a set at the famed Half Note jazz club in New York City with drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassists Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Herman Wright and Larry Ridley. The show was more than two horns long and was for radio broadcast and now it has been remastered for this triple album Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings. Review: This new one from our favourite US ambient outlet takes the form of a selection of long-form compositions from artists who are close to the label. As such it's a perfect reflection of its signature sound - deeply immersive soundscapes, slowly shifting synths and meditative moods made with a mix of hardware tools, guitars, pedals and even baritone vocals. It's named after a Norwegian term for warmth and intimacy, which certainly plays out from the evolving loops of 'A Whisper' to the textured melancholy of 'Canaan' and the reverberant drift of 'Coronation Ring'.

Review: Tribe 2000 is a powerful celebration of Phil Ranelin's prolific career, featuring the Tribe Records founders, Ranelin on trombone and Wendell Harrison on saxophone. Recorded in 2000, this album brings together the core of the influential Detroit label, as Harrison sought to reconnect with Ranelin while incorporating a talented ensemble of seasoned musicians to enrich the arrangements. Four of the five compositions are penned by Ranelin, showcasing the innovative spirit that characterised Tribe. Wendell Harrison, known for his self-directed approach to music, co-founded the legendary Tribe label in the 1970s and established Rebirth Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to jazz performance and education. His collaborations with notable artists like pianist Geri Allen and saxophonist James Carter underscore his significant impact on the jazz community. Born in Indianapolis, Ranelin's early influences shaped his journey through Detroit's jazz scene before he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued to thrive alongside luminaries like Freddie Hubbard. Together, Ranelin and Harrison's Tribe 2000 exemplifies their enduring legacy in jazz music.

The Tribe label - run of course by the pair themselves - it came on was also one of the great of its era in the 1970s. Here the album has been remixed from the OG master tapes, all under the watchful eye of its creators, then lacquered by Bernie Grundman. It is an expansive and indulgent record that includes a vast booklet that takes us through the history of the label and touches on the story of Black American empowerment.

A master of blending traditional reggae with modern production, his sound is steeped in deep basslines, engaging melodies and a distinct UK steppers influence. The album's mostly instrumental tracks channel the essence of 90s dub while embracing a synthetic edge that feels both nostalgic and fresh. The vinyl pressing enhances the experience, offering warm, immersive sound quality. Each track flows seamlessly, creating a meditative journey through layers of bass-driven rhythm and atmospheric textures. J.Robinson's connection to vinyl culture shines through, honoring its heritage while inviting new listeners to explore its magic. Review: Over the years, Ron Trent has released some fine albums, all of which have subtly expanded on his trademark soul-flecked, percussion-rich deep house sound. On What Do The Stars Say To You, his first new full-length excursion in 11 years, the Chicago native has taken a different approach, utilising his occasional WARM alias on a stunning set that abandons dancefloor-pleasing in favour of immersive, evocative and ultra-deep blends of ambient, downtempo, jazz-funk and electronica. It's a genuinely brilliant album all told, with a string of impressive guest musicians - including Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros of Azymuth, electric jazz pioneer Jean-Luc Ponty, psychedelic Balearic specialists Khrungbin and Italian ambient maestro Gigi Masin - all making brilliant contributions. The pair clearly found fruit in their crossover as they return for a second instalment, this time on 7K! and with an expanded approach thanks to the addition of Siddhartha Belmannu, a strikingly talented young singer in the field of Indian classical music. The over-arching intention of the artists was to make a joyous album about the wonder of life and living, but of course this isn't a one-dimensional happy-clappy record. Rather, it's a meditative exercise dealing in fascinating microtonality and mesmerising harmonic interplay with the power to have a profound, uncanny effect on the listener.

Seamlessly blending influences from jazz, hip-hop and r&b, the record is a dynamic and multidimensional musical trip with an innovative crossover of styles that all push boundaries. There are wiggling instrumental funk workouts, fly moments of introspection like 'Tonight Is Boogie Back Nice Vocal' and much more besides.

Review: Motor City earned its name thanks to the increased mobility bestowed unto black Americans thanks to the invention of the car, and the centrality of the car industry on Detroit. On his latest LP, house maestro Waajeed pays homage to the joys of black leisure and play in the city, which came about in large part thanks to technological advancements such as this. In his own words, 'Memoirs Of Hi Tech Jazz' signifies the 'transition from labor to pleasure', a transition we can all but dream of in today's age. Laid-back, frivolous, decadent house tones blend effortlessly with super-swirly jazz motifs.

Review: Waajeed is a top tier talent - a producer, DJ, expert beat maker and label head at Dirt Tech Rack who moved away from his deep house sounds to cook up this masterful hip hop record back in 2006. It now arrives on vinyl almost 20 years later but time has not diminished its quality. It finds the Detroit native, who thrives on breaking conventional boundaries, telling the story of the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst as an emblematic American tale that he pairs with a raw beat framework that taps into the vibes of artists like J Dilla and Slum Village. It is a serious work from a serious artist.

Review:  Waaju & Majid Bekkas's Alouane exemplifies the power of collaboration during challenging times. As bringing overseas artists to the UK grows increasingly difficult, this record bridges cultural and generational gaps while capturing the vibrant energy of live collaboration post-Covid-19. Conceived by Waaju bandleader Ben Brown, the album features his expansive arrangements of traditional Gnawa songs and blends Bekkas' musical prowess with Waaju's signature grooves and trippy delays. Bekkas, a key figure in Moroccan Gnawa music, had never collaborated with a UK band until this project. Alouane, meaning "colours" in Arabic, reflects the seven integral colours of Gnawa music, each invoking different spirits.

Review: Los Angeles-based composer Tashi Wada steps out with his long awaited debut album, What Is Not Strange?, and a fine first solo outing it is too. It is by far his most ambitious and widescreen work to date and it comes laden with plenty of emotion as a result of the fact that it was written and recorded over a period that encompassed the death of his father and the rather opposite feelings of experiencing the birth of his daughter. As such Wada reflects inward to explore various themes including being alive, mortality and finding one's place in the world. His unique song based expressionism goes from ecstatic to denser forms and starker contrasts. It is a wonderful experiment and immersive listen.

Review: Reggae is a genre that always existed on 7" in the early days. However, this album from The Wailers changed that as the first to ever be recorded as a full-length album. The Best Of The Wailers was actually their very first and it was recorded before their involvement with Lee Perry. It didn't drop until 1971 and showcased the group at the peak of their soulful powers. Each of the tunes is deceptively simple but impactful with plenty of memorable harmonies between Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The sounds are perfectly raw and undercooked to give them an authentic and emotive edge and many of the tracks remain classics to this day.

Review: The tenth studio album from Tom Waits, released in 1987 via Island Records, was yet another landmark in a career which, by this point, had already given us a raft of stone cold classics. The last two of those LPs, Swordfishtrombones and Rain Dogs, certainly swerved expectations, marking a new period in the life and times of an acclaimed jazz and blues man. Taking its name from a track on Swordfish, Frank's Wild Years is actually "Un Operachi Romantico in Two Acts" according to the subtitle, with several songs here taken from a play of the same name which premiered in Chicago a year prior. In many ways, the theatrical side story was an inevitability, with the previous records all pointing in the direction of a gravelly blues-jazz-rock core with a vaudeville, spoken word, and narrative disposition.

Review: Two years on from Tom Waits' landmark Swordfishtrombones and the jazz cat-turned staunch experimentalist continued to explore the roads less travelled with Rain Dogs. Originally released via the seminal Island Records in 1985, if the preceding album felt expansive, the follow up broadens horizons even further, inviting luminaries Keith Richards and Marc Ribot to get in on the action, although neither come close to even sharing the spotlight with the real star of the show. Spanning New Orleans funeral march melancholy, old down and dirty blues rock, heart wrenching balladry, wild cinematic instrumentals, noir-ish pulp fiction storytelling, and more than a little of the Swordfish-style stomping oddness, it's a masterpiece. Perhaps what really sets this apart, though, is how these myriad styles, at least some of which could easily fall into caricature, feel and sound so authentic, making it impossible not to buy into.

Review: To say that Tom Waits' eighth studio album marked a stylistic shift would be like saying winter is markedly different to summer. Having established himself as one of the finest piano-based songwriters of his generation - or any other for that matter - Swordfishtrombones was the first LP from the artist to lay out what was to come. Something very, very unusual, as visionary as it is bizarre, a celebration of the beauty of surrealism and the joy of having fun with music. Whether it's the opening number, 'Underground', and its strange, almost cartoonish chain gang jazz-blues stomp, the quiet keys and solitary vocals of 'Johnsburg, Illinois', or the distorted, compressed electronic jangling and organ riffs of 'Dave The Butcher', within the first few tracks alone you're presented with a vast and varied universe of ideas.

Review: UMR add to their Tom Waits reissues impetus with a re-release of Bone Machine, Waits' eleventh studio album, first released in 1992. A unique blend of rock, blues and industrial music, it's one of a subset of albums by Waits to deal in themes of death, violence, and religion, and features guest appearances by Keith Richards, Les Claypool, and David Hidalgo. Recorded in a room in the cellar area of Prairie Sun Recording studios, described by Waits as "just a cement floor and a hot water heater", the album is often noted for its rough, stripped-down, percussion-heavy style, as well as its dark lyrical themes revolving around death and chaos.

Each track features his brilliant bluesy vocals, complemented by silky smooth instrumentals. The horn and string arrangements enhance his intricate lyrics, painting a vivid picture of the lonely streets of New York City at night. While 'Closing Time' captures solitude, The Heart Of Saturday Night reveals the broader landscape of the city, where Waits evokes relatable emotions that resonate deeply with listeners.

Review: Glasgow post-punk underdog heroes, The Wake, arguably never achieved nor received the success they were due with their excellent gloomy, shivering early work. Often unfairly compared to Joy Division, which only got worse upon their touring with New Order who were their labelmates at the time; it only feels like now, four decades removed from the release of their seminal debut, 'Harmony', that naysayers have learned to appreciate the work for what a cornerstone of the genre it truly was. The, 'Harmony & Singles', compilation has been reissued on Factory Benelux, then bounced to LTM then right back to Factory again, and here, we arrive at yet another reissue, commemorating a somehow criminally underrated staple of post-punk history, one decade shy of a half-century ago. Post-punk is pushing on...

Review: The newly unearthed Mal Waldron Trio 1970 live recording, officially released with the permission of the Waldron Estate and INA, captures an important moment in the pianist's career resurgence. Recorded at Paris' Palais d'Orsay Hotel during the International Sound Festival and aired on the "Jazz Vivant" radio show, this performance highlights Waldron's revitalised artistry after years of personal struggle. Backed by Christian Vander on drums and Jean-Francois Catoire on bass, the trio delivers a riveting set that exemplifies their deep cohesion. The set opens with 'Rat Now', showcasing Waldron's signature style, with his left hand's rhythmic foundation contrasting against his right hand's sharp, controlled improvisations. Vander's dynamic drumming adds a free-flowing energy to the piece, evoking Monk's influence on Waldron. 'Champs Elysees' follows, blending bluesy melodies with intricate interplay from the trio, while 'Rock My Soul' races forward with vibrant exchanges, particularly between Waldron's forceful left hand and Vander's energetic percussion. The set closes with 'Mount Fujiyama', a serene yet deeply rooted composition inspired by Waldron's visit to Japan. This rare recording is a testament to Waldron's rebirth as an artist and the trio's extraordinary synergy.

This one, Mal Waldron's Reminicent Suite, is a sizeable collab between two giants of jazz, In coming together they cooked up a sublime album alongside a band made up of the very best Japanese jazz musicians of their time. American pianist Mal Waldron and Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino released this album in 1973 on the Victor label and is one of several albums of the time that were Japan-only releases. Review: The search for The Quest is finally over. This rare album, a true first pressing with the Abbey ring and deep grooves, is now on the shelf and sounding fantastic. It ranks among the top jazz albums, alongside Basra and Far Cry. The Quest is a stunning showcase of soul, musicianship, and composition, with all tunes penned by Mal Waldron, who is a master of sparse, dark, delicate beauty on the piano. Featuring Eric Dolphy on alto and clarinet, Booker Ervin on tenor, Ron Carter on cello, Joe Benjamin on double bass, and Charlie Persip on drums, the ensemble is top-notch. Standout tracks include the mellow and reflective 'Warm Canto' and the energetic 'Status Seeking,' Every tune is unique, making it an album worth revisiting. This reissue rightly restores leadership to Waldron, and with the support of Benjamin and Persip, the complex music, bridging hard bop and avant-garde, is beautifully interpreted. Highly recommended.

Review: Dirt Bike Vacation from Worried Songs Records takes us into the world of Charles 'Poppy Bob' Walker, an amateur guitarist whose mid-80s recordings capture the humdrum of life in Yuma, Arizona. Recorded on a single-track Marantz, the tracks showcase Walker's experimental leanings, with tape delay on 'Granite Bluffs' and 'Goodbye YMCA', and rough overdubs on 'Continuation to Moon Doctor'. Discovered by musician-archivist Cameron Knowler in a dusty Yuma library, these tapes reveal the quiet moments of Walker's daily lifeidriving to work, unwinding at home, or walking the streets. Knowler, who met Walker years earlier without realising it, carefully arranged the tracks to reflect a day in Yuma, blending the mundane with an otherworldly touch. This release is a rare glimpse into both Walker's world and Knowler's own connection to the music.

Lead singles "Playing Games" and "Come Thru" have already done well in the charts, while the remix of Walker's "Girls Need Love" featuring Drake is another gem amongst many here. Further collaborations with the likes of Usher, Bryson Tiller and 6lack also enrich this album, which is a contemporary take on classic r&b. Smoochy, romantic bedroom grooves and plenty of heart-aching vocals from the Atlanta talent will make you nostalgic about teenage love. Honest reflections on relationship woes crop up often and lend the album an air of depth and credibility that make it all the more essential.

Released by Atlantic Records in 1959, this album is a testament to Walker's mastery of blues guitar. The album features standout tracks from various sessions, including the electrifying instrumental 'Two Bones and a Pick', showcasing Walker's talent alongside RS Rankin and jazz guitarist Barney Kessel. The 1955 Chicago sessions with Junior Wells and Jimmy Rogers produced gems like 'Why Not' and 'Papa Ain't Salty'. Walker's versatile style and experience forever set his place in the blues pantheon.

Review: It's never easy to have a huge breakthrough single and then keep the momentum. But Tom Walker, who shot to massive fame and acclaim through the 2018 hit 'Leave A Light On', seems to have managed it pretty well considering he's gone five years between first record, What A Time To Be Alive, and the September 2024 follow-up, I Am. That's an age in modern music's relentless march and production line gutter ethics. I Am is certainly a case of picking up where things left off on the last long form. The track list is a mixture of hyper emotional main stage acoustic-electronic pop balladry, and quiet piano-vocal solos seemingly poised over your bleeding body, ready to cut heartstrings with a love letter from the loss of your life. Elsewhere, EDM and hip hop-hued uptempo numbers make a similarly big impression. Comparisons to Ed Sheeran still ring true, then, but that's not to say there's nothing new happening here.

Review: After initially reserving much of his music for his own Tartan label, Wallace has been on plenty of fine sojourns to other top labels of late including CWPT's from Palms Trax, Studio Barnhus and Rhythm Section. Now he makes his biggest statement yet with a double album on Mule Musiq that draws on everything in his arsenal. His deft melodic touch and innocent synth work defines the first couple of clean and airy cuts while his knack for an unusual rhythm defines the loopy and hypnotic 'Midnight On The Mountain,' 'By The River' is a gorgeous deep house cut with eastern melodies and 'Bubbles' is pure dreaming material for zoned out sessions. A fine work from the talented Wallace.

Review: American country star Morgan Wallen returns with his fourth full-length project: a sprawling, near two-hour showcase of pop, rock and acoustic balladry. While his sound remains rooted in Nashville tradition, the Tennessee-born singer taps into broader palettes hereidrawing on slow-burn storytelling ('Just in Case'), radio-friendly duets (like his Tate McRae collab), and swaggering pop-rock hybrids that veer into crossover territory ('I Ain't Comin' Back', with Post Malone). Wallen's lyrical themes stick to familiar territoryiheartache, small-town nights, self-reflectionibut the production, led by longtime collaborators Joey Moi and Charlie Handsome, often elevates the material. Despite its length, the album keeps a steady rhythm, with highlights like 'Superman' offering a rare moment of emotional clarity. For fans, it's an unfiltered look at a man embracing vulnerability while doubling down on chart power. For everyone else, it's proof of Wallen's status as one of the most commercially magnetic voices in contemporary countryiand one who continues to expand his reach.

Review: Californian trio Wallows share their latest full-length LP Wallows. Coinciding with an eagerly-awaited global tour in support of the album, the LP is led by the single 'Your Apartment', a riveting indie pop slice of melancholia flaunting the near-monotone but endearing melodies of lead singer Dylan Minnette, as he wistfully broods over a recent infidelity to the tune of stereo'd guitars and uptempo counterpoints. The sound is consistent throughout, bringing an expansive indie ballad sound and merging it with a US pop punk sensibility for an overall sweet development of the band's sound.

Review: Walt Disco are evolving. Lead vocalist Jocelyn Si, drummer Jack Martin, synth player Finlay McCarthy, bassist Charlie Lock, and guitarist Lewis Carmichael challenged norms with their debut album, Unlearning. Their new record, The Warping, reflects shifting identities, blending memory and future, and exploring younger selves and imagined personas. Written across the Atlantic, from Los Angeles to Glasgow, the album builds enhances their cinematic glam with orchestral musicians, creating a sound both organic and sophisticated. The album addresses personal themes with radical honesty, especially exploring gender dysphoria and envy. Despite a hostile world, especially for queer and trans people, Walt Disco remains resilient.

Review: The Walter Lang Trio features the eponymous Lang playing piano alongside Thomas Markusson on bass, and Sebastian Merk on drums. They pair light and airy pins with dainty rhythms and an air of performance that brings extra life to these sounds. It makes for a most romantic listen and one that has a warming glow and twinkling stars off in the distance. Starlight Reflections is a loved up jazz sound and the first of two albums with a second one Moonlight Echores to follow soon after on the same label, Jazz Shinsekai.

Review: The Walter Lang Trio has three albums all dropping in pretty quick succession at the start of 2024. They are a virtuoso collective who drop the first two of the three, Moonlight Echoes and Starlight Reflections, on the same day at the end of December while the third, Pure, comes in early spring. This album is another masterful mix of romantic jazz sounds, gentle tinkling piano keys and sublime sophisticated lunge sounds that allow the mind to wander up amongst the stars. Lovely stuff for lovers of all forms of jazz.

Review: David Walters's new album Soul Tropical on French label Heavenly Sweetness is perfectly titled. It is a lush collection of soul so tropical you feel as if you're dancing deep in a steamy jungle as the music uplifts and truly nourishes. It draws on his family heritage in the West Indies and finds David once again singing about this famous string of sun-kissed islands across 13 joyful cuts. These are tracks with rich arrangements and plenty of world instruments making a fusion of disco, zouk, Caribbean, Afrobeat and funk that make a lasting impression. An essential album as summer approaches.
