Review: The Mindhelmet crew are working hard to whip up a strong identity around trippy strains of techno and house with a 90s flavour and a playful instinct. The fifth release on the label kicks off with 4D working some trancey analogue-isms around a stout beat, while Ramez has a slither of minimal electro informing some of the synth shapes on the celestially-charged 'Las Venus'. Label mainstay Josh Baker takes things deeper with the mysterious shimmer of 'Hot Pursuit', and then Arnic spreads out over the B side with the jacked up 'Fast Stepper' and a freaky vocal chop up called 'End Communication'.

Review: The Use of Weapons imprint has mastered the easy to grasp, hard to master formula of matching clutches of (excellent) original tracks from Cottam and label bosses Deep Space Orchestra with well-chosen and even better executed remixes from the likes of Hunee, Neville Watson and Marcello Napoletano. The fourth release sees a change in tack, with the label opting to focus on original material from 6th Borough Project, Haku, Andy Ash and of course Deep Space Orchestra. Graeme The Revenge Clark and Craig Smith kick off proceedings with the suitable thick set slow burning "Estranged Lover", though it's "Rugo" by Haku that impresses most. The new project of Deep Space Orchestra's Chris Barker, the track is a superb kaleidoscopic concoction of fizzing uptempo live percussion, synths and drum machines that has more than a touch of the Carl Craigs about it. Andy Ash switches proceedings back to chunky mutant discoid dirt with the heads down, tops off vibes of "Somehow" while the Deep Space Orchestra head for the expanses of future tech jazz with the ten minute odyssey "Erase Everything".

SNF tapped 9th House & Berlin-based Italian Ruff Stuff for some wicked techno tracks, and it's all about the latter doing his best Aril Brikha impression on 'Still Dancing'. Representing Handy we have Bobby Cazanova serving up some bass-heavy sci-fi fantasies on the electro number 'Big Eden' and a collab between Arthur Dudley and Retromigration who serve up some smoky, late night deep house on 'Moodyknight'.

Review: It's impossible to talk about this label without drawing your attention to its superb catalogue naming conventions. The tunes are banging too, in this case with a timeless deep house bent from A Box of Goodies. 'The Nite' opens up with neat and warm chord stabs and succulent drum work with a US garage twist. 'End Of Luv' swells your heart with its summery rush of melodic goodness and 'Stompin' Pumpin' then gets down and dirty with some golden bells and chopped vocals. 'I'm The One' closes with a Kerri-style bounce and soul.

Review: ** FIT REPRESS ** Naturally for a producer who prefers to remain anonymous and call themselves A Drummer From Detroit and name their debut EP Drums, both tracks here veer into dextrously percussive house territory. Amidst the dizzying, jazz influenced rattle of Shake Shakir style rhythms that characterise the A Side workout our erstwhile protagonist weaves in desperate vocal strains and overtly dramatic piano and horn stabs which only serve to increase the panic inducing pace. The flipside treatment is slightly slower in its execution, yet increases the jazz funk melodic elements which make it the less a hectic and more involving production.

Review: Six years ago, Humberto "Andres" Hernandez donned the A Drummer From Detroit alias for an EP of heavily percussive workouts on Fit Sound. Here he finally offers up a follow-up, once again combining his own recorded drums and hand percussion with carefully selected samples. First up is "Part 3", a jazzy and groovy affair where undulating organ riffs and subtle samples buzz around a layered drum groove. "Part 4" is deeper, slightly looser and arguably more musically layered, with Hernandez's live drums once again to the fore, while "Part 5"- arguably the most percussively intense of the three tracks - sees the producer make great use of jazzy synths, carnival style whistles and eyes-closed vocal samples.

Review: Smile & Wave appears from out of nowhere with two unknown names heading up the first release. There's no indication of who is behind A Houseband or Russian Hackers, but both of them have done a damn fine job of bringing two sure fire killers to wax. The first is "Another Love Another Happiness", which as the title candidly suggests is yet another version of the oft-sampled "Love & Happiness", this time framed in a bubbling, dubby deep house context for the mellow heads to soak up. By way of contrast Russian Hackers get busy with "303", bringing some forthright jack to the table.

Review: Japanese live outfit, A Hundred Birds has a thing for creating classic covers. Over the course of their career, they've recorded countless covers, including organic, string-laden interpretations of techno scene staples such as "Blackwater" (originally recorded by Octave 8) and "Knights of the Jaguar" (The Aztec Mystic). Last year they offered up another warm and wonderous cover, this time of Stevie Wonder classic "All I Do". Here it gets a new lease of life courtesy of scalpel fiend Ryu The Man, who has delivered tightened-up, floor-friendly vocal and instrumental edits of the warm, rich, soulful and undeniably summery cover version. Both are rather good, though it's the vocal version that will win over dancers.

Review: Alvaro Cabana's Madrid based imprint (though mainly digitally formatted) has now made the jump to vinyl and boy are we happy. Charmingly named after his hometown (do check his reasoning on his Soundcloud; an interesting read) this label has some real potential, having released some great stuff by up and coming stars Jonathan Kusuma and Squarewave. It is now the turn of Canadian duo Jokers of The Scene who adopt the new alias A Jokers Bizarre for this particular outing. Leading the way is "Betaville", a soulful and emotive classic house jam in the vein of early Chicago/Detroit that clocks in at over 10 minutes. It is pretty epic. "Breakwater" goes for the more slo-mo nu-disco vibe and is just made for drifting, quite hypnotising. The remix by Timothy J Fairplay on the flip, is pretty sick too we must say!

Review: The Trilogy Tapes continue their unassailable programme of releases with the Night Owl 12" from A Made Up Sound. The addition of Dave Huismans to the TTT discography is perhaps the most high profile release from Will Bankhead's label since the Kassem Mosse and Mix Mup mini LP, but makes perfect sense within the context of The Trilogy Tapes as a whole. The four tracks here hint A Made Up Sound was in a nocturnal mood similar to the sounds that punctuated last year's After Hours drop and feel unmistakably like the work of the man also known as 2562. Weighty yet intricately swung rhythms, a keen sense of space and expert sound design run through this record from start to finish, with the wavering "Kovaxxxt" and the Thin White Duke sampling madness of "Situation" ensuring the B Side will see plenty of wear and tear.

Review: Long time Balearic maestros A Man Called Adam came back strong with a new album this past summer, and now the gift keeps on giving with a second series of tasteful remixes from it. Aleksandir's mix of "Higher Powers" is a beautifully gentle and melodic deep house groover. Pads drift by like zephyrs and Sally Rogers' vocals appear like illusions on the clouds. A Man Called Adam themselves then dub out "Michael" with muted acid lines and muffled vocals. Felipe Gordon then layers up balmy pads and warming chords on his remix of "Mountains & Waterfalls" and a demo edit of "Higher Powers" from Aleksandir closes things out ion glistening, heartfelt melodic house fashion.

Review: The third in Prescription's From the Vaults series is perhaps the most crucial to date, delivering a clutch of veritable classics from the label's archives. Proceeding kick off with the timeless Latin house swing of the Mericana remix of A Man Called Adam's "Que Tal America" from all the way back in 96 - check that sax! Alongside it is Chuggles aka UK house don Ralph Lawson's collaborative effort with Chez Damier brings the searing Chicago emotion via the chord heavy bump of "Thankyou". Mr Damier owns the B Side too, in conjunction with fellow house icon Ron Trent with two of their finest works - "The Meaning" in particular is worthy of purchase alone.
