Review: Anorax has got a vital 10" here featuring a stone cold classic Balearic house tune from Don Carlos in two different mixes. First is the Paradise mix which is as Ibiza as house music gets - the swirling pads, the subtly joyous feeling in the piano chords, the blistered bassline. It all immediately transports you to the White Isle and gazing out to see as the sun sets and the party ratchets up a gear. On the flip is a Lute Mix which brings some more mellifluous melodies and makes the drums a little more bouncy. Both are brilliant.

Review: Arguably no producer made a greater contribution to the Italian dream house sound - that most loved-up of deep house sub-genres - than Don Carlos, AKA Carlo Troja. If you need proof, then we advise checking out this collection of overlooked gems hand-picked by Echovelt Records. Opener "Inspiration" (taken from 2001's The Music On My Mind LP but reminiscent of his early '90s work) and closer "Moment" are both pure distillations of the colourful, sauced-eyed ethos of dream house. "Ambient Underground" - one of three selections from 1993's Aqua - is more tech-tinged and hypnotic, despite the presence of a spine-tingling breakdown, while "Dharma" is closer to his New Jersey-inspired work with Stefano Tirone under the Montego Bay alias.

Review: Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos was active during Italy's golden days, the years that saw the likes of Beppe Loda and the rest of the 'cosmic' crew pave the way for what was to then become house music as we know it in Europe. Although he was an influential DJ as far back as the 1970s, Troja only released his first EP in 1991, the beautiful Alone that is reissued here with the help of Groovin. The Paradise mix in any house-heads dream come true, a bass-heavy club nugget that contains just the right balance between funky and deep; the Flute house version adds in a layer of beautiful chirps for added sexiness; and the Sax Ambient mix is perhaps the best moment on here, keeping those starry synths well in the mix alongside cool piano keys. Hot and warmly recommended.

Review: Italian legend Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos launches Alex Bradley's new Utopia Club Tracks sub-label. After having played at one of the label's loft parties in North London, he soon returned to Milan and sent the very tracks which would come to inaugurate the imprint - and here they are. Romantic and deep Italian House sounds abound on "Tuono", with label boss Bradley and legendary UK house producer Neil 'Nail' Tolliday teaming up with guitarist Ollie Marks for a euphoric Utopia Sound Project mix entitled 'Tears of Petrichore', while 'La Versione Tribale Ambient' goes for a truly spiritual vibe which wouldn't sound out of place in a Kerri Chandler DJ set.

Review: Big release from the master of Italian Deep house Carlo Troja aka DJ Don Carlos, with eight tracks never released on vinyl taken from the 2010 released CD album The Cool Deep. This is the first volume. From the spacey deepness of "Voyage", his signature latin flair on the polyrhythmic madness of "House Of Blues" and the energetic bounce of late nineties style tech-house on "Equinox". Review: As legends go, Don Carlos can be held pretty high up there. There are few producers which can instil as much admiration as the Italian deep house producer. Here he steps up to the stellar Imogen Recordings with a two tracker which proves he can still do what he does best. 'Alina' is eyes closed business right from the off. Waves of atmospheric synth strings and hazy chords roll in, as blissful pads sway with filtered drum loops. Part II is a variation on this masterpiece, progressing through the intro in a speedier fashion for those that need an express ticket to that peak time power. Alone on a Mediterranean beach or surround by a packed dancefloor, Alina is one to get lost in from start to finish and a solid statement that Don Carlos certainly still has 'it'.

Review: Don Carlos should by now be known to most house music crate-ologists as Carlo Troja from Verase, Italy -not Euvin Spencer from Kingston town. Alas, confusion still runs rampant over the ambiguity surrounding the Don Carlos name; if only they'd heard just how great this new EP from the former North Italian nuff-sayer truly was, they'd never forget the difference, of course! 'Italian Paradise' is a fresh, still dripping-wet house EP out via Groove Culture; its lightweight organ triplets, electric piano smears, and lens-fogged sunglass strings are what makes it *it*: a more than suitable release for hammock skygazing and/or wooly garment shedding.

Review: Don Carlos is a legendary house producer behind seminal hits like the Balearic classic 'Alone'. Back in 1997 he hooked up with equally revered Londoner Gareth Cooke to deliver this fantastic double sider. It has become a much sought-after tune in the years since so it now gets a welcome reissue. The opener on the A-side is a big and hugely fun piano romp while on the flip, 'A Room Coloured' sees Carlos exploring a more earthly and lose-limbed house sound with rubbing low ends and plenty of spiritual and soulful vibes in the pads. Great tunes, for sure.

Part Due kicks off in style with 'Toxicology Room' by Green Baize, which leans in on the organ chops and sets the appropriate mellow mood to sink into. Unsiputed legend Don Carlos follows up with 'I Believe In Heaven', a truly ascendant slice of house magic, while on the B side Stage 28 and Brother's Brigade bring yet more timeless treasures that sport that unmistakable Roman flair.

Review: Don Carlos' 'Aqua' is the second album to be released by the Varese-based producer, and in its day, it came to be renowned for its rare white label edition (contrasting to the main version which contained a smug-looking Don on its blue-tinged front). The generic version became a collectors' item, thanks to a combination of its tasteful design and the inclusion of the classic house track 'Alone' which shocked the dance music community at the time of its release. Now, finally, the generic version gets an unlikely reissue, with many remixes of Alone in tow, not to mention obscurer tracks like 'Ipnotica' and 'Move Your Body'.

Review: Whereas the first volume of Italian house pioneer Don Carlos's retrospective of Italian house, Echoes of Italy, largely stuck to the picturesque but chunky and organ-rich "Italo-house" template, this second volume expressly focuses on "paradise house" - what Young Marco and Christiaan MacDonald dubbed "dream house" on their superb Welcome To Paradise series. As you'd expect given his association with the sound, Carlos's selections are notably different (and arguably less well known) than theirs, even if some of the same artists feature. Review: Italo house has enjoyed quite a resurgence in the last few years, with plenty of new releases popping up that sound convincingly authentic in their production and aesthetic. It's always nice to savour the real deal, though, and it doesn't get much more real than the one and only Don Carlos when it comes to direct-from-the-source dreamy 90s peninsula house. Here, the Don compiles a comprehensive selection of classics from the genre. With shimmering pads, soulful vocals and synth-flute leads aplenty, this bygone LP is steeped in both nostalgia and not-so-subtle reminders that not too many of the more recent pretenders have added a great deal to the form. Highlights permeate the comp, from Montego Bay's 'Everything' to Kwanzaa Posse's 'Wicked Funk'. The unabashed positivity of Golem's 'Music Sensations' makes for a welcome addition, as does the driving synth energy of Eagle Parade's 'I Believe'. In truth, the LP doesn't put a foot wrong, transporting listeners to the balmy hedonism of golden-age Rimini. Though it's never good to generalise, the old adage 'Italians do it better' certainly seems apt here.
