Ynaktera - "Three Phase"
El Cosmonauta - "7K-OK (A)"
Mariano - "Mysterious Way"
Ghostphace - "Rome Boredom"
Scual - "The Fade Of John Gray"
Review: Stochastic Resonance come through correct with their sixth instalment of the series, this time bringing together the talents of Akamoi, Ynaktera, Cosmonauta, Mariano, Ghostphace and Scual for a proper stirring of the senses on this noisy, drone-laden beat of an EP. Akamoi starts with furious swells on morphing feedback soundscapes, while Ynaktera goes for a pixelated sample workout recalling Pan's Jar Moff. Mariano's "Mysterious Ways" sets the dance tempo, amalgamating a twisted, slightly off beat pattern with bleeps and stabs and "Rome Boredom" by Ghostphace is another special moment - quick, psychotic synths fall into an absolutely terrifying ocean of distortion and satanic noise infusions. What a blinder!

Phantom Dance #0 (Suzanne Kraft mix) (7:53)
Phantom Dance #0 (Oceanic club version) (7:50)

Review: There has never been a moment in time where France's Versatile imprint stopped to innovate and evolve. They are, without a doubt, one off the most prolific and trusted imprints to have ever graced our dance charts over the years. As such, they're back with a collaboration from two compatriots, the renowned Pierre Bastien (Rephlex, Morphine etc etc), and relative newcomer Eddie Ladoire. The duo have only recently struck a studio relationship, thanks to an LP for Un Je-Ne-Sais-Quoi, and they are clearly in sync. Phantom Dance consists of one original, a vast, explorative journey of synths held together by a loose percussion, a remix from Suzanne Kraft, who comes through with a more dubby, beat-heavy approach, and two more mixes - the killer Oceanic club version, and the loser, ambient-rich Oceanic Garden version.

Movimento (Conscio mix)
Movimento (Inconscio mix)
Review: Battista, John Swing and EMG's first hook-up under the SPS moniker - the thrillingly hard-to-pigeonhole Sintomi Di Gravita 12" - was arguably one of 2014's most slept-on records. Here they join forces for round two, delivering another two tracks that neatly sidestep the accepted norms of house and techno. A-side "Movimento (Consico Mix)" is a wonky chunk of well-swung, jazz-flecked deep house, smothered in filters and tipsy chords. Flip for the Inconsico Mix of the same track, a brilliantly far-out fusion of odd electronics, glitchy rhythms, shimmering synths and bubbling found sounds. It's hardly dancefloor-centric, but it's certainly really, really good.

Love To Love You (bonus track)
Review: Brooklyn based Bastard Jazz always come up with the goods. Classy, sophisticated and groove-fuelled breakbeat is their staple sound and the latest Basics EP from Colm K sticks firmly within that remit. "Basics" coaxes us in with a singular key piano melody, providing itself as the platform for the sensually sung vocals from Elaine Dowling. Laid back, sexy and driven by an underlying groove, simplicity is the key here and it's worked to perfection. The Uptown Dub pushes things skyward a notch with electric keys and a speedier rhythm, while Alister Johnson's remix leaves the beat to chug away in the background whilst bringing the vocals right up front. On the flip, the Part Time Heroes & Patchwork Pirates remix speeds things up with a marked BPM increase taking it into a vague drum and bass territory without losing the track's soulful dignity. Jugoe turn on "Basics" house capabilities with a deep bassline, twisted synths and drawn out strings. For the bonus, "Love To Love You" garners downtempo, ultra sexy melodies.

Always RIP (Eddie K & Minus remix)
Review: Veteran duo Ed Solo and Deekline slip out the latest studio production which craftily lifts the vocals from Donna Dee's Always placing them amidst a sea of powerful rave swerves as the track commences. The drama soon increases via a rhythmic heartbeat before the inevitable drop into wobble bass which is pleasantly offset by some fluttering synth oscillations. The arrival of some expansive key stabs as the track eeks towards the final moments provides some melodic depth. Badmen Eddie K and Minus take care of remix duties which takes a swerve towards vintage rolling drum and bass territory.

Nothus - "Finding Apachu" (6:10)
Review: Art-Aud invites us to return to their "Secret Rave" and dance the night away to a five-track selection of warehouse-ready club workouts. Denham Audio and Borai join forces on opener "In Love", a left-of-centre, UK garage-influenced slab of bass music insanity blessed with seriously deep sub-bass, before Etch reaches for the pots-and-pans percussion on the wild-and-weighty brilliance of "Hearth Transplant". Elsewhere, Kreggo delivers a slice of jungle-influenced heaviness ("1 2 3 4"), Hooverian offers up booming techno beats, weird noises and creepy melodies ("Montanita") and Nothus takes sweaty breakbeat hardcore to moody and twisted places on revivalist darkcore jam "Finding Apachu".

Eat Lights Become Lights - "Habitat '67"
Twelve - "Queen Of Maybe"
Twelve - "Knights Of The Green Shields"
Review: Bringing together an interesting combination for a split disc release, Deep Distance continues its foray into the more exuberant end of post rock with the adventurous, krautrock inspired tones of Eat Lights Become Lights and Twelve. The former sets adrift on an endless bed of violin strikes and shapeless synth flurries, working reverb and delay to perfect effect for an experience both otherworldly and surprisingly grounded in the same instance. Twelve, better known as Six By Seven vocalist Chris Olley, heads in a more rhythmic direction with an astute homage to motorik sensibilities, especially on the optimistic thrum of "Knights Of The Green Shields".

Review: Newly signed to Ninja Tune, Ebbb debuts with a five-track EP that shows great intent. Emerging from the same London avant-garde live scene that birthed black midi and Black Country New Road, the band has quickly developed a unique sound in just a year. Their music blends pulsing rhythms, immersive electronic production, sparkling melodies, layered vocal harmonies, and beats that range from ambient to industrial. Described by the band themself as "Brian Wilson meets Death Grips," the EP is experimental and unpredictable yet deeply considered and precise with an idiosyncratic hybrid of sounds that showcases Ebbb's innovative and tightly crafted music.

Review: Twilight Expanse is the latest reissued EP from New York producer Ebeats, who originally released this great breaksy classic in the early noughties. A crude minimalist exploration in breaks and dub effects, we've got the ultra-wally zoner 'Helion', which is like a hyper-compressed version of an ambient Aphex perambulator, and the comparatively jazzy and surreal 'Twilight Expanse'. On the B also come remixes by Radioactive Man and Voicedrone, which are far less playful, but make up for it with a modern heat which still respects the original's direction.

The Source (Arkajo remix) (5:19)
Magic Land (6:54)
Magic Land (Pugilist remix) (6:35)
Review: Swedish label, Arkajo, has secured its place front and centre for delivering the very best spaced-out, dub-tinged techno. And the latest addition to their output, Ebende's 'Arkajo 4', is no exception to this rule. The first track, 'The Source', arrives with light-footed skittering atmospheres, skating effortlessly across airy yet undertonally eerie atmospheres. Fans of Forest Drive West - this track is one for your arsenal. Arkajo's remix of the same track, housed on the second half of the A side, punctuates the original with the label head's distinctive bass-driven groove. On the flip side, 'Magic Land', lands with ethereal, icy atmospheres, melting away into delectably breaksy rhythms. Puglist's remix, the final track of this fantastic EP, is a darkened, electro-breaks take on Ebende's original - powerful and driving, this is an amazing addition to the release. Wonderfully varied yet very much of-a-piece, this is one of those releases that is destined to fit comfortably across a diverse range of record collections.

I'm So High/I'm So High (Ubud mix) (12:00)
Transmission: Maya (5:53)
Powertrance (4:01)
Review: The cornerstone of a certain (unforgettable) trance moment in time, Eden Transmission's 'I'm So High' was *the* tune to peg the LA and San Fran rave scenes indelibly to the PI's corkboard of dance music. Eden Transmission were only one alias of an ever-evolving, planarian duo - Michael Kandel, Tom Chasteen - whose works as Voodoo Transmission, High Lonesome Sound System and Up Above The World could equally have been deemed just as significant projects. But we prefer 'I'm So High'. One of the best to do it with breakbeats, the 'Ubud' mix of the title track hears what sounds like a bazaar gathering of psychic townsfolk, set against urgent whispers, which hydrolyse against a reso-peaked lead. And by far the best tune is 'Powertrance', which startles us with its wireless charge of mega-heavy breaks and robotic C-shell sendups, whisking us into psycho-cyberspace.

Edmondson is equally as strong with a handful of releases that have also garnered high praise for. Vanarama houses four examples of deep house that bridge garage music and dance music to make them both futuristic, deep and fun. We really like the wide range of moods in this EP. All My Thoughts has another winner! Only 80 copies in total so be quick!

Review: Estonian label RR Gems continues to fly the flag for the finest experimental jazz music, introducing the world to the sound of EEG Coherence. Recorded at the legendary Hotel 2 Tango studios in Montreal, their debut album is a flowing, engrossing affair which flirts with free jazz forms while keeping a certain smoky, groove-minded vibe at the centre of the rhythm section. It lopes and slopes, letting prominent guitar work needle its way around looming basslines and splashy, spaced-out drums with splashes of vocals, flutes, sax and keys darting about in the mix for good measure. If you value free jazz you can latch onto, this album is a must-check.

Review: Ninja Tune aren't the only wax shuriken-touting dance gesticulators on the block. Lumbago Records are their reissuing rivals; hailing from France, this anonymous pair focus on rereleasing long-lost dance cuts from the crates, new and old, compiling them into short EPs. Scratchy electro and breaks bits from EFX and Samix time travel all the way from 1991 ('Technique Amiga' sounds like it's lifted straight from an early Lara Croft soundtrack), and are reconciled with two tracks made in the last 5 years - and one bang in between from 2001, The Ruffneck's 'Phase Shift'. An impressive exercise in cross-generation reconciliation. Electro will never die!

Review: FOXBAM INC is back to build on the momentum of their first EP with a second one that packs a mighty punch. This one kicks off with EBY, who this year has been cooking up acid for 40 years and here offers the warped low ends and garage-techno power of 'Goldtooth'. Foxtrot vs Ma Bla then mashes up old school samples with earth-shattering bass on 'Deep Down Inside' and bRz vs Stije is a double-time hard techno stomper with warped synths and twisted bass that is inspired by and named after ISCO, a concept from Einstein's general theory of relativity that makes predictions about the dynamics of black holes.

Review: The latest drop on the consistently brilliant Kimochi comes from Eho Kates, a new project from Todd Gys and Brendon Moeller. While the names involved may be familiar, the resulting sound is something wholly fresh. Certainly, Moeller's rightly heralded instinct for dubwise processes is no great shock, but there's a playful sense of experimentation powering every element of this release from the scuffed, fractured rhythms of 'Anxiety Sensitivity' to the submerged echo chamber surrealism of 'Emotional Distress Endurance'. Inquisitive processes and otherworldly sound design shape out the whole record, shot through with the alluring mystery that defines Kimochi output overall.

Heart
Review: It was a pleasing surprise to catch Eject Project pop up on Russia's wonderful Ethereal Sound, and even more so to see the label stranding out to great things beyond deep house. It's more of a concept EP, with the title track exchanging frantically between ghostly piano keys and rain-fuelled noise implementations. "Noir" sounds like the ancient tribal horns of civilisations lost in time and "Veld" is an intricate patchwork of sweeping sonic feedback and long, reverberating pads. The finishing touches of "Heart" are a real pleasure - soft and euphoric keys lost to a synth fuzziness only fathomable in the mind of Eject Project.

Review: As Will Bankhead cranks up the pressure with a final quarter 2014 release schedule for The Trilogy Tapes which includes output from Low Jack, Zennor, Sassy J, Chemotex, Max D, Aaron Dilloway and more, the inimitable Ekman makes his label debut with some crushing electronics. Recent material from the Dutch producer for Berceuse Heroique and Panzerkreuz has proved to be some of the most scorched electro to surface from the Lowlands in some time, but the Entropy EP finds Roel Dijcks expanding his palette further. There's a sense of abstraction throughout all four tracks here, with notions of rhythm only loosely adhered too, with the overwhelming sonic pressure of "?0" and "Dissipation" offset by the lighter title track. Closer "?S" veers into the crawlspace between the insectile sound design of Mike Parker and the lysergic hardware manipulations of Hieroglyphic Being.

Review: The two Ekoplekz albums that Nick Edwards released through Planet Mu this year are possibly the most accessible long players issued by the Bristol-based artist in a rich, prolific production career. Pitching up on the West Norwood Cassette Library label is hardly the most expected of moves for an artist more commonly associated with Mego, Further and Mordant Music, but fans of those aforementioned Mu LPs will certainly find much to enjoy in this Rock La Bibliotek EP. The label claims Edwards has long been promising them some club focused material and these 6 tracks are the results, still retaining the sense of abstraction and daring freeform approach that has made Ekoplekz the powerful voice he is. File alongside Container and Hieroglyphic Being in the lurching, slightly foreboding end of the techno scale.

Review: The flurry of releases emanating from Planet Mu HQ in the label's 20th anniversary year continues apace with the arrival of a new record from veteran West Country tape mangler Ekoplekz. The two albums Nick Edwards issued through Planet Mu last year represented some of his most concentrated work as Ekoplekz, but he seems in playful mood on this Entropik 12" which features a pair of ten minutes-plus productions that pay their dues to Joey Beltram and "a certain late-eighties psychedelic drone-rock group" respectively. Due to their stated lengths, the soundclips don't really do this record justice but you should get an idea of the enveloping sound Edwards has achieved. "Entropy Flash" is quite beautiful!
