Haven't You Heard (Fitzy's Fully Charged mix)
Review: Over the last few years, plenty of techno, house and tech-house artists have embraced disco, adding elements of familiar '70s and early '80s favourites to their sturdy, 21st century beats. Here sometime Drumcode, Bedrock and Hot Creations regular Alan Fitzpatrick goes one step further, delivering an official remix of Patrice Rushen's 1979 floor-filler "Haven't You Heard" - a much-sampled track that famously formed the basis of a 1998 disco-house smash by Scottish outfit Daddy's Favourite ("I Feel Good Things For You"). Fitzpatrick's version comes on like an extra-heavy, extremely tooled-up version of that celebrated revision - all cheery piano-heavy loops, celebratory sassiness and excitement-building cut-ups - with the addition of more verse and chorus vocals from Rushen's original take. It has "bona fide peak-time anthem" written all over it.

A Sides Vol 10 Vinyl Five Of Five

Techno
Alan Fitzpatrick - "Rochus" (6:11)
Reset Robot - "Distant" (6:29)
Patrik Berg - "Activated" (6:30)
Lilly Palmer - "Amnesie" (6:25)
Review: The fifth and final edition in Drumcode's 10th volume of the A Sides series features four undisputed heavyweights on the global scene, all contributing some typically austere expressions in techno. We Are The Brave chief Alan Fitzpatrick kicks things off with the peak time onslaught of 'Rochus', all steely rhythm patterns and seething Reese throughout, then more rave energy awaits you with label staple Reset Robot's thriller 'Distant'. On the flip, Cologne's Patrik Berg (Terminal M) contributes the hypnotic and locomotive acid flashback of 'Activated' and rising Dutch DJ Lilly Palmer will have you trancing out under the strobe lights with the warehouse techno epic 'Amnesie'.

Flkn & VCL - "G6" (4:23)
Pisapia - "Stranger" (5:14)
Pisapia - "Bass Trap" (4:56)
Review: NeoAcid returns with another EP of uncompromising techno, a sonic assault that's sure to leave a lasting impression. Flkn's 'The Jam' sets the tone, a relentless barrage of distorted kicks and acid lines that feels like a descent into a chaotic, industrial underworld. Collaborations with Jacidorex and Vcl push the boundaries further, their twisted soundscapes and distorted rhythms creating a sense of exhilarating chaos, like a runaway train hurtling through a dystopian landscape. On the flipside, Pisapia takes the reins, offering a slightly different flavour with hypnotic grooves and infectious melodies that add a touch of dark energy to the mix. A headfirst dive into the depths of techno, a sonic thrill ride that will leave you disoriented and exhilarated.

Vlaysin - "Open Your Mind" (6:41)
Sestrica - "Ssense" (5:51)
Proxyan & Lewski - "Cereology" (4:07)
Review: The Flesh or Die label launches with a stark statement of intent from five electro innovators operating right at the sharp end. Flotation Aid takes charge to start off with and offers a sound that is both busy and densely packed with sound and texture, but also serene and calming thanks to the background synth glow. Vlaysin's 'Open Your Mind' is something of a nightmarish sound which will have you on edge throughout and Sestrica then brings some more classic electro tropes to 'Ssense' with its snappy drums and celestial melodies. Proxyan & Lewski's 'Cereology' shuts down with some wonky wonderfulness.

Forward Strategy Group - "Dragon's Tooth"
Happa - "To Die Hating Them"
Martyn Hare - "The New Normal"
Mick Finesse & Pinion - "Dead Boyfriend Alley"
Review: This sampler is the first of several 12"s planned as an addendum release to Slowly Exploding, the ace compilation from Perc Trax issued to celebrate Ali Wells & co surpassing the decade mark. If you class yourself as a Perc Trax completist and have already invested in the 2CD edition you should know what to expect from the four tracks here but those vinyl purists out there will enjoy those first few moments when the cuts are fresh on your 1210 and fresh in your mind. Those seeking some deranged stomp should head straight to young Happa's "To Die Hating Them" whilst Forward Strategy Group and Mick Finesse & Pinion offer up the type of broken techno one expects from Perc Trax. Martyn Hare takes first place in the full throttle, bracing techno stakes however, cripes.

Iron Blu - "Up The Adrena Line" (5:30)
Bad Outfit - "Convergence Of Four" (5:00)
Perseus Traxx - "Hi-Tech" (5:47)
Review: Weapons Of Desire kick off what is presumably a new series of various artist releases under the Machine Funk banger, and do so with a right royal collection of dance music punks. Drvg Cvltvre, for example, is a Dutchman who makes dirt, sleaze and noise an art form in his techno tracks, and the brilliantly brainless 'I Hate Thinking' is proof of that. UK hardware lover Perseus Traxx also brings plenty of lo-fi brilliance to his 'Hi-Tech', while Rennie Foster's 'Deposition Acid' achieves some hypnotic brilliance with the 303. Add in more rough and ready excellence from Type-303 and Bad Outfit and you have a hefty EP.

Vulkanski - "Key Protest" (6:05)
Puritan - "Whitesnake" (6:18)
Review: The second Murder Records EP is another uncompromising collection of brutalist techno. The Tbilisian label enlists Fractions & Zanias to open up with a stormy flurry of synths and frosted drums then Alessandro Adriani layers up more mechanical drums that demand you march while the brine frying synths melt your mind up top. Years of Denial then looks to EBM for its inspiration on 'Reverie' with deadpan vocals and haunting cold wave synths. This is caustic and coruscated stuff from start to finish that is best heard loud, in a super blackened and raw space.

Freddy Fresh (Modulator) - "Dazed"
Freddy Fresh (Modulator) - "Whirlybird"
Paul Mix & Freddy Fresh - "Gates"
Review: US veteran and all round champion of any genre he turns his hand to, Freddy Fresh is still immersed in the game and slinging out essential jams at a rate of knots. He dons his Modulator guise for two tracks on this latest 12", keeping things decidedly raw and letting the machines do the talking. This is stripped back robot music, all primal drum machine rhythms and errant synth bleeps for synthetic souls. On the B side Fresh represses a track produced in collaboration with Paul Mix, which was originally released back in 1996. It's not hard to see why it's so in demand on the second hand market - a spellbinding slice of ambient techno from the golden era of the genre.

Geel Acidvarken - "Birdhood Acid" (4:20)
Bohm - "Tranquility" (6:33)
Piepiep - "System 100" (5:05)
Review: Dutch label 030303 is, unsurprisingly given the name, all about acid sounds in various different contexts. This time out they line up four artists and set them free with their Rolands. Freek Fabricius opens up with a portal to another dimension where bight harmonies and shattered melodies, computer game sound effects and bust bass all happily coexist. Geel Acidvarken's 'Birdhood Acid' is a more slow and meandering acid meditation. Bohm gets busy on a nice electro trip and Piepiep's 'System 100' is a nice tripped out wander through downbeat electro bliss.

FRUITS - "Dat 22 (First Track)"
PTU - "Tuesday Night" (DJ Sotofett's Laton 12inch mix)
Review: Austria's Laton is about as independent as you can get for a label. Releasing sporadically and putting out some of the most abrasive electronic music on offer, it's inevitably become one our personal favourites. Norway's number one badboy, DJ Sotofett, has been ever more prominent on the label throughout the last few years, having put out some of his very best work for the label outside of then now-legendary Sex Tags Mania and Wania imprints. The A Side features an archival cut from F.R.U.I.T.S, the Moscow-based duo whose work has been a prominent feature of Laton's output and "Dat22" is a fine addition to the label's canon; a bass-heavy, electro-fuelled burner which is likely to blow any speakers out. Seriously though, this is one for the system! Sotofett appears on the flip with a sprawling two part remix of "Tuesday Night" by Laton curios PTU which is really not done justice by the clips! One for the freaks!

Psyk - "Voyager" (6:17)
Truncate - "Rings" (5:23)
Blasha & Allatt - "Broughton 93" (6:04)
Review: The fourth sampler from Ben Sims' mammoth Tribology mix features another four of the must-have exclusives from this crucial document of contemporary techno. Function leads the way with "Introversion", a spooky and sleekly designed deep driver marked out by thin slithers of displaced vocal. Tripeo plays the opposite tact with a bright and bold synth hook front and centre of the mix on "Sequoia", and then Truncate trickles down a pattering array of drum machine rhythms and fluttering melodic chimes on the stunning "Rings." Blasha & Allatt bring the tough stuff to the B2 with the jacked up energy of "Broughton 93" - their debut appearance no less and a very strong one at that.

Black As You Like
Review: At the psychiatric ward of Soma, Funk 'Jekyll' D'Void and Phil 'Hyde' Kieran have found solace with their latest release. This double A side is a schizophrenic record with a black and white contrast that couldn't smack you in the face any harder. "White Light" teases you in with its cosy, brooding melodies. A late-night burner, Funk & Phil deliver a cut of warm electro-bliss perfect for those 4am wind-down sets. "Black As You Like" drags you right back from the light through a dark abyss of thorny rhythms and spiky soundscapes. It tears its way into the sinister side of techno and aims straight for that traumatic childhood experience that sends you to tears every time. The Funk & Phil partnership continues to go from strength to strength.
