Review: Icelandic trio Sigur Ros havent released a new album in a decade but now, following their signing with BMG, they finally break that run with ATTA, which is their eighth long player overall. The famously progressive, emotive, timeless sounds of the band haven't diminished over the last decade as signified by the first single - the rather epic 10-minute epic 'Blodberg'. The album writing process began in 2019 and was recorded across multiple continents and studios, including the legendary Abbey Road in the UK. The London Contemporary Orchestra feature on one of their most adventurous and accomplished albums in some time.

Review: Icelandic post-rock auteurs Sigur Ros return from a ten year creative silence with the ethereal and warming ATTA. Where 2013's Kveikur proved easily their darkest and most sonically menacing work to date, their decade-long respite has rewarded the trio with crippling reflection. Their first LP since the departure of drummer Orri Pall Dirason, whilst reinstating keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, who rejoined the band in 2022 following his departure not long after 2012's Valtari; the material here could be the most glacial and ambient they've ever conjured. With artwork featuring a flaming rainbow, vocalist Jonsi elaborates -"Trans and queer and gay rights have been trampled on so much recently. It's scary to see. Around the world also, it feels like we're going backwards." Embracing these woes, and utilising classical motifs to conjure swells of operatic, post-rock gloom, their sonic return is one of both hushed grace and worrying despondency.

Review: Dark Horse Records has put together this limited edition pressing of Nina Simone's seminal debut studio album, Little Girl Blue, in honour of its 65th anniversary. Originally released in February 1959, this special pink vinyl reissue features a 12x12 insert with an introduction by Dhani Harrison and of course the record itself includes many an iconic track. Take your pick from the likes of 'My Baby Just Cares for Me' and 'I Loves You, Porgy' which showcase Simone's early brilliance and hint at her profound influence on music in the decades to come. This collector's item is a tribute to Simone's timeless sound.

Review: Nina Simone has never enjoyed the credit she deserves because of quite how confrontational and anti-establishment she often was. Never was that more true than with her performances at Montreux Jazz Festival over the years. Many of them are collected here on this new new double album and many of them are rare and never-before-released recordings. She first played the historic event in 1968 and turned out an emotional show while her famous 1976 showing was much more fiery and unpredictable. Tracks like her fearless 'Four Women' and hauntingly beautiful performance of 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' are all included.

Review: The Skatalites were among the brightest stars in Jamaica's ska and rocksteady heyday, exploding onto the early 1960s scene with early hits such as 'Black Sunday' and 'Passing Through'. This new compilation brings together the band's most essential tracks, recorded almost entirely with extra bandmates Don Drummond (trombone), Roland Alphonso (sax), Lloyd Knibb (drums) and Jackie Mittoo (keys). Under the production purview of one Arthur 'Duke' Reid - the esteemed producer whose work centred on the label Treasure Isle - this 28-track extravaganza hears the band's myriad influences 'go ska', as they liked to put it.

Review: For their second album, Slave To The Grind, rock behemoths Skid Row decided to go with a more harsh and raw sound. They also upped their lyrical game and found fresh new ground that swerved your more typical rock cliches. It paid off and the album that was originally released in 1991 became a classic with fans old and new. The heavy metallers now reissue it in all its original glory on orange and black marbled vinyl which means you can enjoy highlights like 'Livin' On A Chain Gang,' 'Slave To The Grind' and 'Get The Fuck Out' in a sonic quality never experienced before.

Review: If you hadn't heard this one back in '92, where were you? Probably not even born yet, but that's just us showing our age. Undoubtedly one of techno's first forays into the mainstream, Snap! represented a wave of artists alongside the likes of 2 Unlimited, Technotronic, The Shaman and The Grid who provided many an anthem which now a true zeitgeist of this golden era. BMG presents this much welcome vinyl reissue of the German Eurodance outfit's now legendary sophomore effort The Madman's Return; a Michael Munzing & Luca Anzilotti production featuring vocalists Penny Ford, Turbo B and Thea Austin and the hits 'Rhythm Is A Dancer', 'Exterminate' and 'Colour Of Love'.

Review: We all know of legendary 90s dance act Snap's 'The Power' but do you know any other of their tunes? Well, now you can acquaint yourself with this limited edition picture disc version of their World Power album. It of course features the dark but catchy and by now truly seminal hit that made them famous worldwide as well as many other euro-dance sounds such as 'I'm Gonna Get You (To Whom It May Concern)' and 'Cult of Snap!" amongst many more. What a treasure it is too, and one that will take you right back to your childhood.

Review: Originally released in 1992, the fifth full-length from the German thrash metal pioneers marked a notable embracing of more modern metallic composition, pulling from the burgeoning death metal sound to help sharpen their sonic assault. What resulted was a band who originally formed in 1981 proving they could still go riff for riff with any of their more youthful contemporaries with a barrage of their most frenetic, fast-paced speed-thrash up to that point in their career. Their final effort with founding drummer Chris Witchhunter, the LP also marked the debut of guitarist Andy Brings and now comes home newly remastered and spread out across a lush red vinyl 2xLP.

Review: While the Cavalera brothers would become renowned for their work with Sepultura, many will admit to having little reservations about jumping ship to Soulfly when the time came. With frontman Max Cavalera's penchant for ferocious thrash riffage, husking growls and tribal infusions, this later project would bolster some of the most vicious thrash-punk both sides of the millennium. 'The Soul Remains Insane' compiles all four studio albums, released between 1998 to 2004, along with a bonus LP of b-sides, rarities and unreleased tracks. A book with rare interviews offering insight into each record is also included, making this 4 album/1 compilation, 5xLP collection a true spectacle of fan service to behold.

Review: Jeopardy is the debut studio album by English post-punk band the Sound, released in November 1980 via Korova. This being the heyday of the commercial music format, the album was released with the expectation of high chart performance, though it flopped on that front. Despite the anticlimax, Jeopardy went down in time as a dark post-punk paragon, invariably lauded by the small crock of critics who did hear it; this pattern would go onto be matched by the overall critical success of the Sound as a a band. The album's neo-noir, paranoiac hooks and exclamatory vocals make up its core aesthetic, though there is something truly authentic, an 'it' factor, that makes Jeopardy unique unto its own; its rapacious compositions, tight melodies and moments of toothy brightness add to this aura; it's as if they paved a hidden way for the more talented of South London bands of today.

Review: The Sound were a band ahead of their time, and All Fall Down stands as their definitive contribution to their legacy. Despite facing commercial pressures from their label, Adrian Borland and the band stayed true to their artistic vision, delivering a masterpiece of post-punk melancholy and timeless songwriting. The album's ten tracks, marked by a sense of longing and introspection, showcase Borland's poetic lyricism and emotive vocals, from the haunting beauty of 'Monument' to the raw energy of 'Red Paint,' each song leaving a lasting impression. Despite its initial lack of commercial success, All Fall Down remains a hidden gem for those who appreciate music that speaks to the soul.

Despite their lack of commercial success, The Sound's influence on the underground music scene remains undeniable, cementing their place among post-punk icons. The album's reissue, with its spectacular sound quality and subtle inclusion of hidden gems like 'Hothouse,' pays homage to Borland's vision and the band's enduring legacy.

Review: Sparks are, of course, Ron and Russell Mael, a hugely prolific family twosome who have put out some 20 albums. Lil' Beethoven was their 19th and one in which they managed to find some of their better earlier form right on the turn of the millennium. It came in 2002 and builds in some classical influences to their usual sound with the single 'Suburban Homeboy'. The pop/rock aesthetic defines many tunes as the band rekindle their interest in art. This is one of the many albums BMG are reissuing this year including Balls from 2000, Hello Young Lovers from 2006, Exotic Creatures of the Deep from 2008 and The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman from 2009.

Review: Spiritbox returns with a sophomore effort that builds on the band's explosive trajectory. Following their chart-topping debut and Grammy-nominated EP, the band dives deeper into their signature sound, a visceral blend of metalcore intensity and soaring melodicism. Co-produced by Mike Stringer and Dan Braunstein, 'Tsunami Sea' showcases a band firing on all cylinders, their musicality and songwriting prowess reaching new heights. Tracks like 'Soft Spine' and 'Perfect Soul' demonstrate Spiritbox's ability to seamlessly blend crushing riffs with ethereal vocals and intricate arrangements. This is an album that demands to be heard.

Ultimately, LP number nine definitely feels like a change of tact, with Brett Anderson's voice taking on a new, grizzlier sound (albeit at times still erupting into the siren-esque tones we fell head over heels for first time round). On the whole, it would be far more accurate simply to label this outing as tougher, rawer and much less affected than the stuff we've had in the past.

Review: Alan Vega & Marty Rev's career as Suicide spanned an incredible four decades. During those years, they rarely if ever got much credit for their work but as is often the way, once time passed they started to get deserving plaudits and an ever growing status amongst fans and critics. Now said to be one of the most inspirational outfits of the 70s, they influenced everyone from Depeche Mode to Soft Cell. This brand new, remastered collection takes in tunes from all across the band's career and has plenty of big, raw, energetic and eclectic sounds with track from their first album in 1977 and most recent in 2002.

Review: Suicide are generally referenced in terms of their earth-shattering late 70s debut, but of course Martin Rev and Alan Vega did work together after that. A Way Of Life was their third album, released in 1988 when the world around them had changed so much from when they started out, and yet their sound was still devastating and imposing amidst the culture of bands they'd influenced. Recorded with The Cars' frontman Rip Ocasek, the resulting nine industrial pop songs are as brilliant as anything from their fabled earlier works, and in this special expanded edition we're also treated to a fully remastered version including a clutch of additional tracks including their live cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The USA'.

Review: Heads will know Suicide as the pioneering duo of electronic music and proto-punk from New York City, consisting of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev. Fewer will know anything more beyond the pale of their debut album, though. 'A Way of Life', their third studio album released in 1988 via Wax Trax!, heard them escape the noise - exploring a more hypnotic, minimalistic synthpop sound. That being said, stonkers like 'Surrender', 'Jukebox Baby 96', and 'Dominic Christ' all still captured the doomy New York zeitgeist. This remastered edition contains a full remaster from its original tapes, as well as a brand new, never-heard-before live Bruce Springseen cover no less.

Review: A brand new best of collection including all the hits and classic album tracks from the British glam-rock band's breakthrough in 1969, up until 1978. The collection is being released on beautiful transparent coloured vinyl featuring brand new liner notes after the recent release of 'Isolation Boulevard' - a reworking and reimagining of 1974s 'Desolation Boulevard'. An amazing tribute to the original Sweet, now that all three members have unfortunately passed away, with an incredible 1-2 punch on side C with 'Love Is Like Oxygen' and 'Funny Funny' back to back - just a short two track highlight, but truly covering the breadth and depth of the power of Sweet.
