51717 - "Regard" (6:31)
Silent Servant - "Time In Body" (3:44)
Silent Servant - "Severed Union" (4:13)
Review: The sixth issue from Jealous God, and the first of what promises to be another year of intrigue for the label, pairs up visual director Juan Mendez with 51717, aka New York artist Lili Schulder. Any fans of Schulder's 51717 cassette for Opal Tapes or her Shadowlust collaboration with Svengalisghost will be excited by the prospect of some new music committed to wax and she's on wonderfully abstract form here. Listening to opening track "The Glove" is an experience similar to being slowly covered by a viscous liquid to the point of suffocation, with her barely audible spoken word delivery only adding to the sense of foreboding. Complementing this, 51717 provides two shorter but equally striking compositions with "Regard" especially chilling. It's a mood that seeps into the two Silent Servant productions with "Severed Union" ripe mixtape opener material. Do check the mix CD from Surface Tension pair Nihar Bahall & Jason Polastri too!

Review: Depending on where you stand, Virgil Abloh is either the ruiner of fashion, or its saviour. The Off-White founder doesn't exactly have a subtle style when it comes to his own brand, but that hasn't stopped him making it to the high profile position of artistic director at Louis Vuitton. He is also more and more involved with music on various levels and that now plays out with his new single with serpentwithfeet. It is presented here on both sides of this Sony 7" following his recent remix of Mercury Award winner Michael Kiwanuka's 'Solid Ground'.

Akamoi - "Little Black Box"
Ynaktera - "Three Phase"
El Cosmonauta - "7K-OK (A)"
Mariano - "Mysterious Way"
Ghostphace - "Rome Boredom"
Scual - "The Fade Of John Gray"
Review: Stochastic Resonance come through correct with their sixth instalment of the series, this time bringing together the talents of Akamoi, Ynaktera, Cosmonauta, Mariano, Ghostphace and Scual for a proper stirring of the senses on this noisy, drone-laden beat of an EP. Akamoi starts with furious swells on morphing feedback soundscapes, while Ynaktera goes for a pixelated sample workout recalling Pan's Jar Moff. Mariano's "Mysterious Ways" sets the dance tempo, amalgamating a twisted, slightly off beat pattern with bleeps and stabs and "Rome Boredom" by Ghostphace is another special moment - quick, psychotic synths fall into an absolutely terrifying ocean of distortion and satanic noise infusions. What a blinder!

ASC - "The Noncolour Entity"
Vaccine - "Irradiate"
Sam KDC - "Lovesick"
ASC & Synth Sense - "Glimpse"
Review: Limited to a pressing of just 250 (with a promise of no represses) this clear vinyl release is special in every sense. Powered by some of the most exciting names on the fringes of bass and electronica; each of the four cuts strut with raw melodic futurism. "The Noncolour Entity" rumbles with a dubby techno groove a la Funk D'Void. "Irradiate" comes with an almost Bonobo-like dreaminess while "Lovesick" shakes and shudders with a sub-soaked groove and bright, bold swinging breakbeats. "Glimpse" closes the show on a timeless analogue note. Coming on strong like an old Guy Called Gerald record, it's all synths and classic electro breakbeats. Outstanding.

Scanner - "Eros (Bitten By The Black Dog)" (5:51)
The Future Sound Of London - "Monolith" (4:00)
Review: The seventh and final instalment of De:Tuned's brilliant Unboxed Brain series - an unashamed tribute to 1990s IDM and ambient techno featuring contributions from many of the artists who defined that scene - is predictably special. It features a slew of new remixes of previously released tracks, plus "Monolith", a previously unreleased ambient track from the Future Sound of London that's every bit as weird, wonderful and out there as the duo's greatest work. Elsewhere, Kirk Degiorgio (as Future/Past) and Mark Broom both drag B12's "World's End" towards the dancefloor (the latter providing a punchy electro re-make), while The Black Dog provides a brilliantly blissful, string-drenched ambient interpretation of Scanner's "Eros".

Lukid - "Hair Of The Dog" (4:33)
Review: Well Curated is a series of releases and parties that - in its own words - "reflects the ethnomusicology of the last 50 years of music" - and aims to reach into all genres, merging classic styles and breaking down barriers. Steve Spacek occupies the A-side with the breezy broken beat and soul-in-space of 'Alone In Da Sun', while Lukid's 'Hair Of The Dog' is a more intense counterpart, with wobbling sub-bass and swirling, surging atmospherics hovering above.

Civil Defence Programme - "The Comfort Of Things"
Civil Defence Programme - "Assembly Line Work"
Sleeparchive - "Incomplete Open Cubes"
Sleeparchive - "Painting Number 7"
Sleeparchive - "Fifty Fences" (live)
Review: It's been some 10 years since Roger Semsroth made his debut under the Sleeparchive alias, with the unashamedly stripped-back Elephant Island EP. Here he doffs a cap to his rarely used Civil Defence Programme alias - last seen on The All Clear label in 2009 - with an EP of industrial-minded compositions. It's all pretty bleak, as if Semsroth has spent rather a lot of time contemplating the apocalyptic results of all-out nuclear war. The trippy "The Comfort of Things" and "Fifty Fences (Live)" are particularly dystopian, offering little more than surging, looped-up electronics and fuzzy, brain-melting beats. He mixes things up a little elsewhere, though, via the undulating EBM of "Assembly Line Work" and "Incomplete Open Cubes", a kind of contemporary German take on 1990 UK bleep techno.

Senyawa - "Di Kala Sudah" (Charles Cohen replay)
Charles Cohen - "Conundrums" (Robert Turman version)
Review: Well, you can always count on Rabih Beaini's Morphine Doser to deliver the drip and send you peacefully into heaven. What's particularly incredible about the label is its diversity and continuous evolution - one moment releasing deranged, experimental house cuts by Madteo and then dropping the most abstract of sonic patchworks the next. This particular release is the third instalment of the Redose series, and these particular EPs just keep on getting wilder. The first track is by upcoming Morphine signees Senyawa - a hardcore band from Indonesia - and it's masterfully reinterpreted by the legendary Charles Cohen, an artist who has released some of the most cutting-edge electronic sounds known to man, and who has also contributed to the Morphine label with a sublime series of LPs last year. On the flip, one of Cohen's own track, "Conundrums", is torn apart by Robert Turnman, an experimental artist who needs no introduction thanks to his countless releases, some of them on highly coveted fringe labels such as Aaron Dilloway's Hanson Records. Essential, obviously.

Orgonite (Riding The Waves) (6:21)
Review: Berlin's Cocktail d'Amore and Tokyo's Ene Records have come together once again to present the music of Solidair. The duo of Cocktail alumni Luigi Di Venere and Jules Etienne present three tracks aimed to induce a dance floor hypnosis. Orgonite (Riding the Waves) does just that, a slow build awash in the ebb and flow of acid tinges, just enough to wet your whistle on a Saturday night. The original mix keeps the skeletal support but throws in a life preserver of 8 bit gaming synthesis. Frisky arps call and respond to each other before making way for sinewy pads to lift off. Tiger's Eye sets itself onto cruising speed incorporating elements of late 90's acid techno with the sleek and smooth clubbing aesthetics of modern day Berlin.

Neuronphase - "Dissapointed" (5:50)
Superstar & Star - "Looking At The Star & Heavens" (Rhythm Doctor Youtube remould) (5:58)
Review: With Ajukaja, Maria Minerva and Hypnosaurus now something of recognised names thanks to Tallinn-based Porridge Bullet, the label reinstates its Bullet various artist series that helped the label find its footing in 2012. Sporting a new batch of emerging artists, this second edition is as fresh-faced as the first, and perhaps the wildcard of the four tracks is Trinidad's Neville Lawrence, aka Superstar & Star, whom Porridge Bullet apparently fell in love with after discovering his YouTube channel. S&S's cut "Looking At The Star & Heavens" makes the grade thanks to Tallinn-based London ex-pat DJ Rhythm Doctor cyphering the smoky vocals and air-pushing drums of the original into a 'YouTube Mould'. Ajukaja hooks up with Porridge Bullet solid Mart Avi for an eerily minimal and quiet "Symmerty Of Human Body Jimmy Winkle Waltz", while Neuronphase makes a second VA appearance (still no solo release) with a dusty slo-mo jam joining the dots between the tropes of Madteo and Lobster Theremin records. Meanwhile Dima Disk's is given A1 privileges with a lo-fi sweety of a tune - "Casino".

Review: Senking and DYL reunite after their notable collaboration back on 2020's EP Uniformity Of Nature, this time going long on their first full-length, Diving Saucer Attack. This new work spans a total of six tracks, two of which have been produced individually and so highlight their shared passion for dub-heavy and adventurous electronic music while also bringing out the subtle differences in their styles. The album opens with 'Six Doors Down', a track featuring throbbing bass and haunting synths while subsequent cuts like 'A7r380R' explore intricate soundscapes before culminating in the sombre closing piece, 'Not Just Numbers.'

DYL - "Semantics" (4:05)
Review: Czech label Detach launched back in 2015 with some low key firepower from Moll+, and now they're back with a split release that showcases some fiery upcoming talent in the field of experimental electronica. The sound DYL is exploring on "Phrases" is rabid and deconstructed, but equally bristling with analogue energy. Senking jumps in with DYL for the more rhythmically structured "Destroyed City Lights", which balances sweet and savage tones beautifully. DYL and DB1 create a stern, percussion led variation of electro on "Uniformity Of Nature" and Senking's solo piece "Launch" jettisons off into misty blue pools of synthetic expression, making this a record that surprises and satisfies at every turn.

Review: MOLT's second outing consists of five cuts, firstly Stavrogin's thunderous technoid jungle rework of DYL's contrastingly introverted original; weaving intricately layered noise and percussion over huge hitting sine-kick pressure. DYL's other o0fferings on this side channel early drum & bass, with chunky, filtered breakbeat rhythms and vivid, colourful yet bleakly detailed, arrhythmic sound design. Flip the record for DYL's o0ff-kilter broken techno floor-rattler Transfer, opening with soul-swallowing suspense i its deep subs and catchy delayed kick-rhythms evoke imminent danger. To conclude, Stavrogin brings erratic, sub-heavy melancholia with his second piece meshing luscious chords with stuttered kick sounds upon dashes of layered bass. In line with MOLT's first edition, vinyl copies of Second Phase include ten locked groove loops for use creatively as sampling or DJ tools.

Review: The third volume in the Sessions series brings together a trio of much loved producers for a series of untitled, all-star collaborations. Regular collaborators Dynamo Dreesden and SVN are joined by Dave '2562' Huismans under his now familiar A Made Up Sound alias. The studio threesome hits the ground running on the A-side workout, which sounds like an alien techno interpretation of 1990 British "bleep and bass" - all tipsy sub-bass, intoxicating bleeps and skewed TB-303 motifs. On the flip they pepper a snappy, pitched-down ghetto house groove with dreamy synthesizer flourishes ("Untitled 2"), before bathing in a bath of liquid hallucinogens on the rhythmic ambient weirdness of "Untitled 3".

ASC - "Loophole" (Sam KDC remix) (4:27)
Review: Kiwi Geoff Presha's now Berlin-based imprint Samurai Horo delves deeper into the grey area, presenting four dark and textured excursions by some modern masters of the black art. Japan's Ena gets remixed by Ancestral Voices (one half of Akkord) on "9th Divided" which incorporates sombre vibes and exotic percussion and field recordings from the tropics. Ena appears again, remixing DINT's "Visceria", fully deconstructing it on this harshly reduced drum and bass experiment. On the flip the darkness prevails with Synth Sense (Auxiliary/Diode) and their grinding and sludgy slow burning techno mess that is "Corrosion (remix)" and finally ASC's "Loophole" gets taken on a one way ticket to hell and back courtesy of Sam KDC.

Review: Manchester's meandyou. collective take their time over releases, averaging just over a 12" per year. Here they kick off 2016 with another collaborative EP, full of drowsy deep house, crackling techno and tipsy, world-weary ambience. With label conspirator Herron otherwise engaged, it falls to Workshopper Even Tuell to kick things off with the slowly unfurling new age chords, blazed vocal samples and sparse-but-chunky deep house groove of "Boys Truth". Sul "Does It For Andy" on the creepy, discordant dark world ambient track of the same name, before Sensu brings back the beats on the hypnotic, experimental dubby techno shuffle of "Sigmon". Finally, Fabric lays back and lights something fragrant on the similarly dub techno influenced, metallic IDM-goes-ambient of "Pink Grid".

Review: Spain's premier outlet for quirky house and techno lines up to that fine reputation once again here with a second Fragments EP from a fine crew of studio talents. Fantastic Man's "Lather Of Heaven" opens proceedings with lush synth ripples layered up over rubbery, rolling drums to make for a trance inducing gem. Layered Moods gets more unhinged with his cavernous exploration of rhythm and Absis slows things down to a delicious dub crawl. Steve Pepe brings some shamanistic rituals to his rather spooky and tribal number "Tribalone" to complete a fascinating EP.

Fis takes up fifty per cent of the 12" with the shuffling, muffled post-modern melodies of "Arrivals" and the paranoid, dub-droned "Celiac Tingle". Tuff City Kids - "People Is A Crackhead" (Tuff Hamlet riddim)
Review: Established as a record label some four years ago, Live At Robert Johnson have really come to the fore as representing the best of contemporary European deep house alongside the likes of Dial and Running Back. Here, the Frankfurt institution returns to their recent triumphant Lifesaver compilation with this addendum 12" release featuring the productions from Roman Flugel, Lauer, San Laurentino and Tuff City Kids. Flugel opens proceedings with the rough and moody "More Is Not Enough" which brandishes a beat that can't help but get in your face. This is complemented by the calmer, sumptuous New Beat stylings of Lauer's "Hector" and the richly colourful "Final Landing" from San Laurentino. "People Is A Crackhead (Tuff Hamlet Riddim)" is not only the best track title in a hot minute but yet another original dancefloor slayer from Gerd Janson and Lauer's Tuff City Kids, opting for the Germanic digi dub meets tuff house route.

Coming out of the Amsterdam district, this new label is set to provide us with rich, compelling and dubby electronic amalgamations judging from this debut release. The two artists' sounds fuse into a perfect unison, where spectral modular sonics drop into shreds of field recordings and neat little synth glitches. Review: It's always good to see a split release from two artists whose track records (no pun intended) make it very difficult to predict where the new wares will fit. Which is exactly the case with this one, given K15's oeuvre name-checks imprints like Wotnot Music, Eglo and Wild Oats, while SMDB has appeared on Funkineven's Apron and the always great Lo Recordings in recent years. Needless to say, then, if we can rely on one thing it's that everything on this expansive, obscure collection of curveballs will be deep and richly textured. From 'Pace & Time''s downtempo barroom jazz, to the shuffling broken beats and waves of synth on 'Dry Mango (Part 2)', the confusing beat structures and delicate piano play of 'Earth State' to 'Syntherlude''s beat-less, science fiction tune up, it's all well made stuff.

Electric World (extended version) (5:46)
Review: First released in 1986, "Electric World" was the debut single from Ryo Kawasaki and Satellites, a New York-based collective helmed by a computer programmer who built his own MIDI-workstation. Here it gets a timely reissue. It's an intriguing EP, with the title track - which is available in original mix and extended version form - offering a breezy, warm and (whisper it) Balearic mix of cheery synth-pop melodies, addictive female load vocals, dreamy chords, NYC freestyle ticks (the oft-used Fairlight orchestral stab) and beats that sit somewhere between electro and freestyle. Instrumental cut "727" continues on a similar theme, peppering a squelchy bassline and bustling machine drums with spacey chords and oodles of additional percussion sounds.

Molten Moods 4

Experimental/Electronic
Kessel Vale - "Voguing Geisha" (7:03)
Skee Mask - "Fanta Ocean" (feat Jonas Yamer) (4:54)
Konrad Wehrmeister - "Xenomorph" (6:19)
Jonas Yamer - "Insgeheim" (6:11)
Review: Following a fine solo EP from Jonas Friedlich, the Molten Moods label returns to type with another compilation style EP featuring a quartet of cuts from their growing roster of artists. Kessel Vale kicks off proceedings with the lightly melodic, becalmed electronic experimentalism of "Voguing Geisha", before Skee Mask unfurls the Autechre-does-deep-dubstep flex of "Fanta Ocean" with a little assistance from label co-founder Jonas Yamer. On the flipside, Konrad Wehrmeister layers drifting, melancholic melodies over heavy sub-bass and skittish electro beats, while Jonas Yehmer joins the dots between spaced-out dub techno and out-of-this-world ambient on "Insgeheim". Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: The second round of crucial pop covers from alt-electronic scene darlings is here to tantalise your memory banks and delight your minds. After a fantastic first volume, this time around Suzanne Kraft has a laid back kosmische pulse at work on "Nordsee", while Minor Science does a brilliantly deconstructed dub out on "Heatwave". Sultan Shakes get somewhat frenetic after that subdued start with the headspinning cover of A Guy Called Gerald, "Oud Ou Ray", Eyedress plays out a raw guitar strumming version of "Girls" and Geller & Kaya do a remarkable job recreating chart-topping 80s funk on "Wham Dub".

Tund (Ricardo Villalobos remix) (10:43)
Toxic Underground (Tobias remix) (8:05)
Review: For some of the more surreal, free and improvisation electro-acoustic jazz kicking about these days check out Claudio Puntin, Samuel Rohrer and Max Loderbauer's Ambiq LP. That 11-track album fused interstellar themes associable with the music of Sun Ra with left of field sounds you'd expect to hear on a label like Type. Arjunamusic founder Samuel Rohrer has suitably commissioned remixes by minimal legend Ricardo Villalobos and Ostgut Ton pillar Tobias, and both provide distinctly different and, to say the least, fascinating results. Villalobos's scatter-junk remix of "Tund" is enough to make you feel as though you're stuck in a tiny crawl space of dirt, driftwood and broken wind chimes, while Tobias's trademark techno percussion lightly rests below the humming bassline, cinematic atmospheres and shuffling field recordings of "Toxic Underground". House and techno and its most avant garde.

Doc L Junior - "Modul 32"
Review: Soundtracks For No Film Vol. 1 is a rather charming mini album of outer-spatial, conceptual electronics from the always on point Acido Records label, seemingly tasking contributors to deliver arrangements worthy of soundtracking film. Madteo sets the tone with "Science Fiction" a haunting spectral cut with little regard for beat structures that could feasibly sit in alongside his brilliant LP for Sahko last year. Alongside this, the A Side features three short form productions, with 291out's "Urania (Titoli Di Coda)" the highlight, sounding very much like the music you might hear during the end credits of a forgotten 80s sci-fi drama. Complementing this, sometime Sex Tags Mania artist Doc L Junior is given the whole of the B Side to draw out an expansive, epic synthscapes "Modul 2".

Flowers In May
In The Water Where The City Ends
Long Moon
Review: On the face of it, this is an odd culture clash, with the folksy, atmospheric pop of American singer/songwriter Simone White being given a thorough going over by Workshop+ mainstay Kassem Mosse. Yet sonically, it makes sense; Mosse is a master at eking the last drops of atmosphere from the barest of drum tracks, while White's vocals are sometimes ghostly and always beguiling. There's a clanking percussive simplicity to Mosse's spine-tingling extended interpretation of "Flowers In May", while "Long Moon" is transformed into a spaced-out ambient jazz jam. As for "In The Water Where The City Ends", it's as dreamy, evocative and soft focus as you'd expect. All three remixes show Mosse's softer side, far from the dancefloor-centric workouts he's most famous for.
