Review: Has it really been 40 years since we saw Bono clad in a black sleeveless tee and brown waistcoat, mullet-topped and leading his band of equally early-80s looking musos to the rooftop of a Dublin building to perform one of their finest songs? Well, based on this limited edition release, the answer is clearly 'yes'.

Originally unveiled in 1971, 'Gloria' is a powerhouse single if ever there was one, and a track that marries melody, message, and the atmosphere U2 are best known for. It's a track that soars over those rooftops, The Edge's riffs acting as wings while Bono cries heartfelt rallying calls atop the lot. Unashamed, unabashed, and unapologetic (check the verse in Latin), now you get four different versions, three from the band in their natural habitat (i.e. live on stage), and the original.

Review: Demon Records share a reissue of Urban Cookie Collective's 1994 mega-hit The Key, The Secret, adding three lesser-known cuts to the fore as well. The brainchild of one Rohan Heath, who founded the project in the late 1980s, Urban Cookie Collective amounted to a bewitching UK funky house formula, responsible for many a sort-of-underground hit. Not overproduced nor underproduced - cooked just right - 'The Key The Secret' is a prototypical example of uplifting UK-Euro house and synthpop, perhaps with hints of Italo disco thrown in courtesy of a sample from Glam's early 90s club stomper 'Hell's Party'. Meanwhile, B-side cuts 'Feels Like Heaven' continue to charm and bemuse with their completely earnest and unironic Euro-piano uplifts and motivational spirit.

Review: Since appearing on Gorillaz fifth album, Humanz, in 2017, Kali Uchis has been on an upward trajectory. Now a major international star with a quartet of major label backed solo albums to her name, the Colombian American rapper and singer arrives at album number five, Sincerely, at the peak of her powers. Inspired in part by an unexplained "life-altering event", the set's lyrics explore "the complexities of life" and her desire to "find joy in life despite of the world". In truth, it's more joy than pain, with Uchis gravitating towards head-nodding, string-laden grooves, r&b-influenced pop, guitar-laden trip-hop torch songs, and immersive, dream-like soundscapes.

Review: UGRESS drops his new album The Wrong Future on his own label, Uncanny Planet. It depicts a world where "the future is broken. Technology has triumphed. The machines and their algorithms in the clouds have already won." Frankly, we love it - it's all hyper real sounds and serene AI vocals with quick, pristine rhythms. 'Mending A Tear In The Fabric Of The Night' is exceptionally lush with its mix of classical sounding melodies and high speed electronic rhythms while 'Better Living Through Algorithms' is as fun and funky as it is mischievous.

Review: If nothing else, pop music should be joyous. Nobody knows that better than Washington's premier party rock super group, United State Of Electronica. Since 2002, USE has forced critics and populous alike into fits of euphoric dancing with their life-affirming, rock based interpretation of electronica.

Review: Hikaru Utada is one of Japan's biggest stars, regularly selling records by the millions since they began their career in the late 90s. Their third album Deep River became one of Japan's top-selling records of all time after its release in 2002, helped no end by the success of singles 'Hikari' 'Travelling' and 'Sakura Drops'. Not only the singer, Utada also wrote and produced much of the album, drawing on a sleek pop-folk sound which is now synonymous with modern J-pop. It's been nearly 20 years since the album was available on vinyl, so this repress is long overdue, not to mention hotly anticipated by Utada's fans worldwide.

Review: Originally released in 2016, Fantome was the ninth studio album by Hikaru Utada, one of the biggest selling Japanese artists of all time. The album came after Utada had announced a hiatus from releasing and recording in 2010, although she continued writing in private with her father and long-term collaborator Miyake Akira. The album strikes a more sombre, personal tone as Utada grappled with the death of her mother, her second marriage and the birth of her son, and the music took a more stripped down approach, with acoustic sounds featuring prominently alongside her more typical strains of RnB and pop. Continuing an extensive reissue campaign of Utada's work by Universal, this is the first time Fantome has been available on vinyl, and given the size and devotion of her fanbase, it's sure not to hang around for long.

Review: After a hot reissuing run of some of her classic albums, Hikaru Itada responds to fresh demand with a brand new album, revelling in a new stripped-back, domestic house and pop sound melded with bubblegum. Her first album in 4 years, this one unabashedly heads in a PC Music / hyperpop direction. Beyond the bouncing, rubbery sonic clouds that make up 'Pink Blood' and 'I'm Crazy About You', there are unprecedented collabs with Skrillex ('Face My Fears') and A.G. Cook (on the remix of the same track), proving she's not shy from nu-school hyperworks of her fear-facing, lovesick originals.

Review: This is a much-needed repress for Japanese megastar Hikaru Hutada's 10th album 'Hatsukoi'; former issues of the LP commanded exorbitantly high prices, thanks to the J-pop icon's spritzed, nigh-perfect flair for singing and performance. Throughout this relentless tour of Hutada's voice, her fluting harmonies and delicate intakes of breath remain haunting, as the singer intones and oscillates between Japanese and English. This reissue sees a new double gatefold cover, with a new photo and lyric booklet therein.
