Review: Black Devil Disco Club returns to action on LoEB with "Ride Again", a collection of mixes from his "In Dub" album. First up is the Prins Thomas mix of "On Just Foot", a chugging Italo disco groover led by a rolling arpeggiated b-line, quirky analogue stabs, vocoder vocal hits and wicked conga-laden beats. Proper floor-pleasing Italo workout. Next we have the Unit 4 mix of "An Other Skin", more b-line driving space disco with dark sounds and huge synth lines. Last but not least is the Black Mustang mix of "Constantly No Respect", a hard-hitting percussive jam exploring the darker side of the Italo universe.

Review: Prins Thomas doesn't do things by halves. Having recently released another triple-disc mix album - the rather fine Paradise Ghoulash - he's decided to make his latest album a quadruple-vinyl set. Intriguingly, it also sees him set aside "all conventional drums and drum machines" in order to create a series of epic, evocative, slowly evolving ambient pieces. These were seemingly equally as inspired by classic ambient house - think the Orb/Robert Fripp collaboration FFWD, early System 7, and so on - as IDM tracks of the 1990s. Whatever the exact inspiration, each of the 9 tracks is utterly beguiling, and hugely suited to horizontal home listening.

Review: Full Pupp gets the Sex Tags bug Part Deux. After the triplet of "Bobletekno" reworks from Sex Tags icon DJ Sotofett last week, it's now the turn of his affiliates Fett Burger and Kambo Super Sound to rework tracks from last year's Prins Thomas long player. "Bobletekno" features prominently once again, with Kambo Super Sound opening with a heavy skanking disco dub version featuring all manner of melodica, distant delay and some mighty low end bass. Up next Fett Burger drops a self styled Taellekaell mix of "Flau Pappadans" which aligns to a more familiar Nordic chug but gets increasingly trippy as the run out groove draws closer. Pon de flip there's two further "Bobletekno" versions with Kambo Burger offering a non melodica dub kutt which is kind of overshadowed by the huge dripping mass of male energy that is the Plus One Remix.

Review: Since playing a starring role (often alongside old pal Hans-Peter Lindstrom) in the Norwegian space disco and Scandolearic movements of the mid 2000s, Prins Thomas has wandered off in all sorts of different directions, filling his first solo LP with Krautrock-inspired darkness. This second solo album displays some of the same influences (see the post punk bass and dark percussive builds of "Peppadans 1"), while moving back towards the sound with which he made his name. It's an interesting mix, all told, encompassing intense, paranoid moods ("Bobletekno (Permiks)"), sparse percussive workouts ("Bom Bom"), and shimmering Scandolearic builders (the how do you pronounce "Symfonisj Utviklingschemming"), all wrapped up in his trademark prog rock-influenced production.

Review: Last year's Inner Film 70s album which collated a selection of soundtrack covers by some of Japan's finest producer alongside the likes of Maurice Fulton, Ame and Prins Thomas proved to be something of an expensive and all too rare collector's item. Hooray for the appearance of these vinyl samplers then which will no doubt get snapped up just as quick! On this first one, a gloriously live sounding rendition from Prins Thomas of Bill Conti's Rocky Theme bosses the A Side. Heavy on the moog flexing and with a massive drum sound, the potential cheesiness is long forgotten by the time the run out groove arrives. Foog from the Mule Musiq crew opens the B Side with a pulsing Italo reflex of the "Theme From Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" whilst Apt. International's Hideo Kobayashi reimagines Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" as a peaktime tech house throbber.

Review: Prins Thomas and Belgian label Eskimo have form when it comes to the epic mix CD, the pair combined to classic effect on the Cosmo Galactic Prism back in 2007, but they've really outdone themselves with Paradise Goulash. We do not envy the Eskimo employees tasked with licensing all 57 (count 'em) on this triple disc set which fully confirms Prins Thomas as a master of joining the dots between multiple corners of the cosmic cosmos. Described as "a gentle wander within the musical mind of the Prins," Paradise Goulash of course takes its name from Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and unfolds into one of the most mind-bogglingly good mixes you will hear this year.

Review: Prins Thomas' first commercially available DJ mix, 2007's Cosmic Galactic Prism, was something of a masterclass in dancefloor-friendly eclecticism, effortlessly joining the dots between a myriad of sounds and styles whilst retaining a decidedly intergalactic feel. Pleasingly, Rainbow Disco Club Volume 1 - released in celebration of the annual Tokyo festival of the same name - is similarly inspirational. Featuring some 26 tracks crammed onto one disc, it impressively joins the dots between the demented space disco of DJ Fett Burger and Speckgurtel, the fuzzy house intensity of Theo Parrish's rework of Helium Robots, the spiralling loop techno of Surgeon (here remixing Bee Mask), and the sweaty, bass-driven broken house brilliance of General Ludd. And that's just for starters.

Review: Over the course of the last decade, Prins Thomas's Full Pupp label has done more than any other to define the "Scandolearic" sound - a decidedly warm and glassy-eyed fusion of sounds that touches on Italo, space disco, krautrock, deep house, slow techno, ambient, new age and electronica. For proof, just check this superb two-disc celebration of the label's first ten years. Mixed live (with additional overdubs added later) by Thomas, it offers a deliciously woozy, evocative and entertaining journey. Made up of a mix of exclusives and overlooked back catalogue tracks, it brilliantly showcases not only the label's distinctive style, but also Norway's slowly expanding electronic disco scene. Naturally, it comes highly recommended.

Broken Beat/Nu Jazz
Review: Norwegian jazz pianist and composer Bugge Wesseltoft rose to prominence in the late 1990s on the back of a string of records that joined the dots between jazz, techno and hip-hop. Since then he's collaborated with many electronic producers - Laurent Garnier and Henrik Schwarz included - so it's little surprise to see him joining forces with Scandolearic hero Prins Thomas. The eponymous set was recorded at Oslo's legendary Rainbow Studio, where the pair improvised for a couple of days before editing down the results. There's much to admire, from the spaced-out brushed percussion and sorrowful piano of "Sin Tempo", liquid ambient vibes of "Norte Do Brasil" and wonky kraut-jazz bubbler "Bar Asfalt", to the slowly building brilliance of 16-minute opener "Furuberget". File under "ambient jazz".
