Portable audio recorders | Handheld recorders

Whether for field recordings, podcasts or interviews, portable recorders are the convenient way to record audio on the go. Tascam and Zoom are the two main players in the world of portable recorders, offering a range of options with built-in microphones, typically recording to SD cards or built-in storage. Most are handheld devices small enough to tuck into a pocket, ready to record when inspiration strikes, while even the most advanced models are small and light enough to carry in a rucksack. High-end recorders now offer a wide range of advanced features, including Wi-Fi functionality for cloud storage, iOS/Android app control, built-in USB audio interfaces and camera integration for videographers. Whichever you choose, sound quality is remarkably good for most modern recorders, with high-resolution 24-bit audio now standard for most portable devices.

Tascam DR-60DMK2 4-Track Audio Recorder For DSLR Cameras
Cat: 553188 Rel: 31 Oct 14

4-track audio recorder for DSLR cameras
Notes: The DR-60D MKII is a compact 4-track audio recorder for dedicated use with a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) or digital single-lens mirrorless (DSLM) camera as a video system. It can be mounted directly to the camera and offers various audio inputs and outputs to allow the recording of high-resolution audio material in parallel to, but separated from the camera and its video data.

The recorder features Tascam original HDDA microphone preamps which are known for high S/N ratio, low input-referred noise and low distortion. Recordings can be made at 44.1/48/96 kHz, 16/24-bit in WAV or BWF format. In addition to ordinary stereo recording, it is possible to record up to four channels simultaneously which can then be mixed down to a stereo signal. Recording levels can be adjusted independently for inputs 1, 2 and 3-4 and the Dual Recording function allows two files to be recorded in parallel at different levels.

The DR-60D MKII can output high-quality audio to a DSLR/DSLM camera to be recorded there as a reference track, and a camera input enables convenient monitoring of audio sent from a DSLR camera. Mid-side decoding, slate tone functions (automatic/manual), selectable time delay and other functions for convenient recording are also available.

Tascam DR-10L Pro 32-Bit Float Handheld Audio Recorder With Lavalier Microphone
Cat: 958537 Rel: 29 Aug 23

Micro-linear 32-bit float recorder with lavalier-microphone and optional Bluetooth adaptor for remote control and syncronisation.
Notes: Simple, powerful and high-quality voice recording solution, ideal for interviews, videography and podcasting. Clip on the lavalier microphone and record directly into the tiny battery-powered unit in high-quality 32-bit float resolution.

Supplier's Notes:
Small Appearance, Big Impact.

Videographers love the Tascam DR-10L Pro portable recorder with clip-on microphone as an easy and unobtrusive solution for capturing audio for video. Combining the clip-on convenience of a lavalier microphone with an ultra-compact portable recorder, this form factor solves many of the problems content creators often face. It's a superior solution for busy events such as weddings and on-location film shoots.

While traditional wireless microphone systems can pose workflow concerns, the rock-solid performance of a Tascam wired lavalier recorder is proven and assured. Simple plug-and-go operation also makes the DR-10L Pro an easy backup system for your typical voice recording setup.

The DR-10L Pro's 32-bit float recording technology lets you capture a whisper, a scream and everything in between with impeccable fidelity, ultra-low noise and no need to fine-tune gain levels. Support for wireless timecode sync with Atomos products, the ability to wirelessly control up to five recorders from the app*, plus long battery life and generous storage capacity make the DR-10L Pro ideal for professional applications.

*optional AK-BT1 required for app control and wireless timecode sync

Ultra-compact and lightweight, the DR-10L Pro is the perfect solution when stealth is a priority. Fitting in the palm of your hand and weighing just 65 grams, this recorder is easy to hide at film shoots, weddings, stage performances, and other projects where invisibility is crucial.

The included belt clip attaches easily and securely to clothing, allowing you to capture great audio without compromising your talent.

Using the DR-10L Pro's standard 32-bit float recording mode, two analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs) capture sound over an enormous dynamic range without distortion or excessive noise. This means that videographers can avoid having to discard recordings due to poor levels. With 32-bit float resolution, there's no need to adjust input gain levels, so you can set up faster and be confident that you're recording excellent audio in every situation.

The included TM-10L microphone captures clear, detailed audio while handling high sound pressure levels without distortion, making it the perfect lav mic for 32-bit float recording with the the DR-10L Pro.

Whether you're recording people at a wedding reception, a busy convention or a lengthy ceremony, the DR-10L Pro is ready for service as long as you are. There's no need to worry about changing batteries during recording: the DR-10L Pro personal recorder runs on just two AAA batteries for up to 24.5 hours*.

In addition, files are saved on the microSD card approximately every 20 seconds during recording to minimise the risk of data loss due to unexpected power cuts.

*Lithium batteries

With the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle, up to five DR-10L Pro recorders can be controlled wirelessly from iOS, iPadOS and Android devices using the free DR-10L Pro CONNECT app. The app allows videographers to check device status*, view the recorded waveforms in real time and create up to five presets. A preset can be applied to a single recorder or to all controlled units at once. You can also use the app to name devices for easy identification, for example "Bride", "Groom", and so on.

With the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle, the DR-10L Pro is ready to wirelessly synchronise timecode with supported Atomos products. Timecode allows videographers to perfectly align audio with video, even when there is no audio on the camera.

Timecode is critical for videographers when dealing with multi-camera video shoots, saving valuable time in post-production.

*Audio monitoring via app is not supported

Whether you're in a dark environment or outdoors in the sun, the DR-10L Pro's highly visible OLED display lets you confirm settings at a glance.

You can check your battery level, recording status, and input levels directly from the display, and all advanced functions are just a few button presses away.

The DR-10L Pro lavalier recorder has a headphones output for easy monitoring. You can listen to the input before or during recording, and also check the quality of your recordings immediately without having to first transfer them to a computer.

The DR-10L Pro comes bundled with a free version of RX Elements, a groundbreaking audio repair and noise reduction tool from iZotope. RX Elements gives videographers powerful audio restoration capabilities that need to be heard to be believed, from seamlessly removing coughs and background noise to reducing wind roar and ambient noise. Live video shoots for weddings, on-location interviews, and documentaries can present countless post-production challenges, and RX Elements gives videographers the tools they need to overcome them.

Audio for video production

When shooting a video, you want to be able to focus on your video production and not worry about your audio. The Portacapture X6 was built with video production in mind. The workflow, presets and user settings save you countless steps. The X6 has your back with its 96 kHz/32-bit float recording technology. Not only does this mean you will have the highest quality audio, but you will have a dynamic range that allows you to overcome those less-than-ideal realities that can often occur on a shoot.

The X6 even gives you a timecode sync option* via Bluetooth (with optional AK-BT1) allowing you to align your audio with your video, even when you have no audio on your camera. Upgrade your audio and reduce your worries with your own Portacapture X6.

Record your way

The Portacapture X6 is ready to record with a few quick taps. The internal high-quality stereo microphones can instantly be rotated from A-B to a true X-Y mic pattern to allow for dialogue or spatial music recording. Have your own mics? Use those thanks to the two included XLR inputs which can also handle line level sources.

The mic preamplifiers are Tascam HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) - providing ultra-low noise and clean transparent audio based on more than 50 years of Tascam know-how.

Record six tracks (four individual track plus stereo mix) simultaneously and even use the X6 as your 6-in/2-out USB audio interface to connect to your computer.

Capture every bit

It would be great if every time you need to capture audio, everything is perfect. Not too loud, not too soft. Of course that is not the reality for most of us. Sometimes a voice or sound will be really soft and in other cases it is blasting. Even in these extremes, you are expected to capture the sound and deliver well-finished audio.

The 32-bit floating point recording technology in the Portacapture X6 gives you a much lower floor and higher ceiling for sound material. The result is that your recording can capture everything from the quietest rustle to the loudest spectacle.

Control the recorder from your phone (with optional Bluetooth adapter)

In those cases where you want to put your audio recorder in one place and operate it from another, the X6 has you covered. With the AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter (sold separately) and the free Portacapture Control app, it's easy to remote control your X6 wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet.

Imagine the possibilities!

Ready-to-publish audio anywhere

With the Portacapture X6, your audio is ready to share. Built-in signal processing, including a compressor, limiter, high-pass filter, EQ and reverb, adds that studio polish.

Whether you need to tame the wind when recording outside or want to add the ambiance of reverb to your vocals, the X6 has you covered. From smoothing out your input to preventing extreme peaks or eliminating plosives in dialogue, you can count on the Portacapture X6.
