Review: An ironic album title if ever we've seen one, Atlanta singer-songwriter Faye Webster finds herself exposed and vulnerable in all but reality on this sumptuous collection of soft alternative rock with smatterings of blues, jazz and country. Known for avoidance of the limelight - joining local punk bands on stage unannounced, being a last minute addition to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - Underdressed is a break up album that asks us to fill in a few blanks, although the more perceptive will have no trouble there. Musically that means leaving wide open space in tracks, and silence, or simply retiring from vocal duties, temporarily, allowing the instrumentals to pick up the narrative. And these are certainly richly told tales, with the songs velvety in consistency and, while largely quite quiet, full sounding to the last. It may feel like Webster is still not giving much away, then, but she's actually sharing more than enough.
