Ride guitarist and singer Andy Bell has been busy in recent times, to put it mildly, as plans to release three EPs and an album between April and June 2021 prove. All set to be put out under the series title 'Ever Decreasing Circles', The Indica Gallery EP is the first in that set, and suggests we're in for a very, very interesting time when the next instalments follow.
The release comprises five remixes of tracks from Bell's 2020 solo outing, The View From Halfway Down, with reworkings completed by Martin Jenkins' Pye Corner Audio project, and the sixth piece here coming in the form of Bell's own edit of a PCA remix of his work, here credited to his GLOK alias. Name-dropping done, the record is a dense electronic trip into psychedelic cosmic disco slo-mo territories, dream-like ambient beauty and loose, baggy-trousered, nostalgic elec-indie fare.

Review: As one or two critics pointed out when the Angelheaded Hipster covers album arrived, Mark Bolan is something of a disputed musical genius who remains misunderstood by both naysayers and allies alike. The latter arguably downplaying the chart-topping pop-glam status he enjoyed during his 1970s T-Rex heyday, shortly before commercial and artistic decline led to mediocrity. Meanwhile, those who write him off as only relevant in that period forget the decade of broad work that preceded it.
What we can all agree on, though, is that he wrote some incredible songs that achieved universal adoration, and Cosmic Dancer ranks in the top flight. Nick Cave's contribution to the aforementioned tribute LP stays true to the source material, all emotionally charged lyrics set in heartbroken balladry. A delicate, piano-led ode to the narrator's lost youth, and a promise that despite the passing of time an energy will always prevail.

Review: Metronomy mark their signing to Ninja Tune with a new single that comes not long after their Posse EP Volume 1, a collection of tunes all made in collaboration with up-and-coming artists like Biig Piig, Spill Tab, Sorry, Brian Nasty and Folly Group. This one is another collaboration, this time with Pam Amsterdam. 'Nice Town' deals with the lead singer's own battles such as "internal versus the external or, intangible versus the tangible." It is a delightfully snappy dance-pop ditty with great and tight synth sequences, old-school rap vocals and nice broken early electro beats. Metronomy and Alain Ogue add their own remixes to a great label debut.
