Review: Rune Bagge is an artist from Copenhagen, but someone also well-schooled in the sounds of Detroit and Berlin. His first release on the Kontakt label follows outings on Ownlife, Semantica and Northern Electronics and lays these influences bare across some seriously transcendental techno tracks. 'Friend Of Mine' layers up moody synth drones, slick drum loops and watery effects into something that will help you lose your mind. 'Structure 2' then breaks up the beats into more lumpy rhythms but with ethereal pads bringing that same sense of musical meditation

Review: Danish producer Jesper Zebitz Larsen aka BioRoot returns to hometown label Kontakt for his second EP titled Flatline. The cryptically titled A-side track '125dhfk' is worth picking up the release for alone; an emotive expression in deep house with dub techno undertones that adds to its altogether desolate feel. He then taps the ever reliable French DJ/producer Traumer for a terrific remix, that takes the track from the late night and into the afterhours with his bass-driven minimal reinterpretation. Over on the flip, there's one more beautifully melancholic and understated re-rub courtesy of the one-and-only Exos, only this one's even more cavernous and glacial.

Review: Bioroot is a Danish artist from the city of Aalborg who make this Contact debut back with a couple of solid remixers. His opening salvo, "124nun (Deep version)", is a deliciously dubby and cavernous track with chords rolling off to an infinite horizon. It is cloudy, cuddly and cerebral with superbly smooth grooves rolling endlessly and making for a perfectly mindful groove. Derek Carr keeps the seductive dub vibe but ups the tempo and layers in some warped synths, while Roger Gerressen's Pressure Dub adds a little more warmth and soul but still keeps things perfectly deep.

Review: Techno scene stalwart Steve O'Sullivan has long dabbled in dub techno, usually under the Blue Train alias. Now he has a new dubbed-out alias, Blue Channel, a moniker that doffs a hat to German dub techno greats Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound. This is the first volume in a multi-part EP series that sets out O'Sullivan's soulful, hazy and sub-heavy agenda. 'Dubplate Vibing' itself (side A) sits somewhere between purist vocal dub, pitched-down steppers and the epic, locked-in rhythmic sound worlds of purist dub techno. He ups the tempo and sticks to more authentic dub techno territory on the brilliant (and very Basic Channel-esque) 'Complete With U', before opting for a more minimalistic traditional digi-dub sound of 'Keep Tryin Dub'.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan recently launched the Blue Channel project as a kind of sonic companion to his similarly minded dub techno work as Blue Train, in the process paying tribute to Berlin's masters of the extended dubbed-out groove, Basic Channel. This is the second EP in an ongoing series and begins with a fresh 'Bluetrain Special Edition Dub' of 'Complete With U', a track featured (in its original mix form) on the previous EP. This take is more percussively propulsive and addictive - thanks to a locked-in dub house style groove - with warmer synth sounds and echoing vocalisations. It's basically a hat-tip to classic Rhythm & Sound singles of old, albeit with drums that more neatly fit into a wider variety of DJ sets. Over on side B, 'Traveller' is a fine slab of pitched-down vocal digi-dub with added ambient dub sonics.

Review: Since relaunching the Bluetrain project in 2016 following a 13-year hiatus, UK techno mainstay Steve O'Sullivan has released a lot of inspired dub techno under the alias - not least last year's fantastic full-length, 'Steady Pulse'. To begin 2023, he unveils two fresh cuts that hit the same sonic heights as that must-check album. 'Precious Dubs', featuring the quietly soulful inflections of mic-man Prince Morella, adds O'Sullivan's sturdy, hypnotic and thickset spin on the vocal dub techno template laid down by Rhythm & Sound in the late 1990s, with deep bass, echoing motifs and hazy electronics riding a locked-in groove. On the flip, he goes even deeper on the pleasingly stretched-out 'Woodland Dub', opting to combine a more rolling, house style beat with ultra-deep bass, delay-laden vocal snippets and swirling dub techno textures.

Review: Bluetrain is one of our favourite artists in any genre and a real dub techno don. He often drops his own work on his own label but here steps up to Kontakt with a couple of killer jams. First up he serves up a special edition dub of 'Frozen Rose' that is a signature sound for him: ice cold percussion and rolling east with watery, liquid, rippling chords disappearing off to an infinite horizon while shimmering vocals add extra layers of depth. Flip it over and you will find 'Precious Times' (feat Prince Morella - Roots version) which is another brilliantly heady back room sound.

Review: Since rebooting his dub fired Bluetrain project late last decade, UK techno legend Steve O'Sullivan has delivered a string of superb 12" singles and an equally as impressive album, Steady Pulse. Naturally, the latest Bluetrain missive is a hypnotic, dubbed-out delight. Lead cut 'Frozen Rose (Special Edition Dub)' is simply superb - a rolling and hypnotic affair that joins the dots between Rhythm & Sound's earliest minimalistic dub-house epics and locked-in dub techno - all solid beats, echoing vocal snippets, deep sub bass and aquatic melodic motifs. It comes backed by a fresh 'Roots Version' of much-loved 2022 single 'Precious Times', featuring the honeyed vocals of Prince Morella.

Review: We will never have our fill of Bluetrain music over here at Juno HQ. The man born Steve O'Sullivan mastered the dub techno sound many years ago but still manages to turn out fresh bait to get our cerebral cortex firing and our feet tapping. He goes long on the a-side of this new EP but makes great use of the run time to sink you in deep to his liquid bass, rippling chords and smart vocal touches on 'Precious Times' (feat Prince Morella). 'Woodland Dub' on the flip is a foresty, mystic and enchanting roller in which to get lost. Perfect stuff as ever.

Review: Aleksandr Martinkevic is Grad_U, and is a dub techno artist from Vilnius, Lithuania who has now been serving up fathom-deep tunes for over a decade. He mostly does so on Greyscale but it is Kontakt who signs him up here for two long gems. 'Betelgeuse' opens with classic dub FX, shimmering chords that are smeared in all directions and rolling, rounded drums setting the tempo. Oracys Fractio Resolutio Retake then gets a little more direct with its heftier kicks and on the flip 'Hesperus' locks you in over the course of almost thirteen minutes of skewed synth work and frictionless dub techno drum work.

Review: Juan Atkins' Infiniti alias is responsible for some of the finest techno the Detroit architect has ever made, and 'Game One' was an instant hit when it came out on Metroplex in 1994. It's since been revisited by successive remixers, and now it's the turn of a pair of techno legends in their own right to take a run at it. First up is Steve Rachmad, the Dutch titan better known as Sterac, who creates a light and airy, incredibly groovy rendition of the track driven by square wave synth bass and a perfect use of swing. Next up is Santiago Salazar, who takes a mellow approach to the track with an emphasis on expansive synthesis and a soft attack on the drums. Salazar then shifts gears for an S2 version which pushes the drums to the front of the mix and finds different modes of expression within the synth voices without losing the inherent depth of the music.

Review: As well as Model 500, Cybotron and his own name, Juan Atkins has a mighty fine back catalogue as Infiniti. It's where the Detroit techno pioneer's spaciest hi-tech soul cuts reside, which is especially evident on the classic 'Game One'. Originally released in 1994 on Metroplex, it's now getting the remix treatment via German label Kontakt, leading in with an outstanding version from Dutch legend Steve Rachmad who creates a supremely bouncy, dreamy version that speaks to sunnier days. Santiago Salazar steps up on the flip with two contrasting versions, from the cosmically-charged 4/4 funk of his straight-up remake to the deeper shades of the 'Sci-fi Xicano' remix under his S2 alias.

Review: Kontakt brings back the Detroit masterpiece 'Game One' by Juan Atkins & Orlando Voorn with this solid remix-pack, now including remixes by the great Steve Rachmad, as well as DJ S2 aka. Santiago Salazar, former member of the legendary Underground Resistance collective and later co-founder of the Historia y Violencia label with Silent Servant. The original version of 'Game One' was released on Metroplex back in 1994, and has been on heavy rotation by both Detroit and dub techno DJs all over the world, ever since it came out.The Steve Rachmad mix and Salazar remake have both been carefully restored from the original tapes and then remastered. Santiago made an alternative mix in the same session which is exclusive to this release and previously unreleased.

Review: Juan Atkins released some of the funkiest, dreamiest techno of his imperious career as Infiniti. a collaboration with Orlando Voorn,. 'Game One' originally came out on Metroplex in 1994 and it's since become an essential part of the Detroit techno canon. On this release for Kontakt we're treated to some visionary remixes of the track from trusted experts, leading in with Steve Rachmad's pumped up, springy rendition on the A-side. It's a version which upholds the machine soul sensibility of the original, paying all due respect to the blueprint Atkins laid down as a Detroit techno pioneer. On the flip we get treated to two contrasting versions from Santiago Salazar, with his first take heading into interstellar electro territory before casting adrift on the deep house-tinted 'Sci-Fi Xicano Remix'.

Review: J.S.Zeiter assumed his JS moniker to craft this now much sought after techno classic. He did it many years ago and it is now brought back to the fore thanks to the Kontakt label which has restored it directly from the masters and then remastered the whole EP. The original is a serene deep techno cut with plenty of Motor City synth work then Mark Broom brings his signature drum weight and driving percussion to take things up a notch. These are two stylish tunes that have aged perfectly.

Once again he goes on a deep dive into dubbed-out electro across a trio of immersive and atmospheric sounds. 'Needleleaf' starts with underwater vibes, spangled leads and mysterious chords backing a prickly beat and 'Understory' slows it down to all-out dub territory with watery effects and droplets, ripples and waves all filling the arrangement. Review: Mirko Muller heads deep into the night with this new single on the German label Kontakt. 'Provenance' is a perfectly unhurried nine minutes which defies the modern way of serving up content in short, shape, attention grabbing bursts. Instead this is a deep and dubby sound with a slow, lumbering rhythm and smudged synths that provides the basis for your brain to go off an explore on its own. The Don Williams remix provides a more direct sound but it is still super deep and fluid and a final cut ice against casts you adrift in a sea of dub techno tranquility.

Review: A compelling force in deep and dubby techno, Octal Industries were originally formed in 2004 by America's Michael Sickinger and Iceland's Jonas Thor Gudmundsson but are now helmed solely by Gudmundsson, also known for his ambient-leaning work as Ruxpin. This new three-track release blends his mastery of space, texture and restrained groove within the techno framework. Side-A features 'Arborea', a lush dub techno cut featuring Oxun. Review: Ohm & Kvadrant are no strangers to collaboration having done so with great outcomes before now. This time out they head on another deep sub aquatic voyage into dubbed techno realms. 'Little Mermaid' is a suitable title for such a sonic journey and it is one with lush harmonies up top, glowing like beams of light piercing the water way up above.
