Run Things So
Steps To Oblivion
Review: Deadbeat teams with Paul St. Hilaire - better known as Tikiman, the unmistakable voice behind numerous Burial Mix and Main Street classics - for a new, reinterred pair of wire-stripped, dub-influenced dance cuts. Deeper into earthy texture and minimal rhythm, both tracks creolise Berlin’s dub-techno heritage and Caribbean vocal traditions, ‘Run Things So’ especially with its crackling chords and indolent wordplays.

Game One (Steve Rachmad remix) (6:46)
Game One (Santiago Salazar Remake) (6:21)
Game One (S2 - Sci-fi Xicano remix) (5:41)
Review: Juan Atkins released some of the funkiest, dreamiest techno of his imperious career as Infiniti. a collaboration with Orlando Voorn,. 'Game One' originally came out on Metroplex in 1994 and it's since become an essential part of the Detroit techno canon. On this release for Kontakt we're treated to some visionary remixes of the track from trusted experts, leading in with Steve Rachmad's pumped up, springy rendition on the A-side. It's a version which upholds the machine soul sensibility of the original, paying all due respect to the blueprint Atkins laid down as a Detroit techno pioneer. On the flip we get treated to two contrasting versions from Santiago Salazar, with his first take heading into interstellar electro territory before casting adrift on the deep house-tinted 'Sci-Fi Xicano Remix'.

Velo-City (6:03)
Traveller (6:20)
Soul 440 (Vril remix) (5:55)
Review: Thomas P. Heckmann is back with a new outing under his Metric System moniker. His return to Kontakt brings fresh house depths with opener 'Velo-City' kicking off in urgent fashion with quickened drums and spoiling synths locking you in. 'Traveller' is a dubbed-out cut with a fleshy, liquid low end filled with reverb and echoing hits that disappear off to the horizon. Last of all is 'Soul 440' (Vril remix) which ups the pace and brings sleek dub house energy and majestic cosmic synth details. All three of these are nice and cultured cuts.

Electro
Needleleaf (7:02)
Understory (7:10)
Lakeland (9:17)
Review: Morphology makes a move to join the Kontakt label family with his Lakeland Dubs EP, which is sure to win plenty of fans right off the bat. Once again he goes on a deep dive into dubbed-out electro across a trio of immersive and atmospheric sounds. 'Needleleaf' starts with underwater vibes, spangled leads and mysterious chords backing a prickly beat and 'Understory' slows it down to all-out dub territory with watery effects and droplets, ripples and waves all filling the arrangement. 'Lakeland' is a punchier and more kinetic drum machine workout with silky synth wisps and irresistible rhythms.

Provenance (9:57)
Provenance (Don Williams remix) (6:36)
Providence (8:01)
Review: Sirko Muller, one half of Tokomak and a familiar face from Mojuba's Wandering sublabel, makes his Kontakt debut with two deep, organic dub tracks. 'Provenance' sets the tone, its dubwise bassline and echoing melodies creating a hypnotic atmosphere. Don Williams, head of Mojuba, delivers a remix that pushes the hypnotic elements even further, transforming 'Provenance' into a mesmerizing dub techno excursion. The 12" is rounded out by 'Providence', a dubwise masterpiece with its echoing delays and spacious atmospherics. Expect to get lost in the cavernous depths of these dub-infused soundscapes, perfect for late-night listening or early morning meditations.

Provenance (9:57)
Provenance (Don Williams remix) (6:35)
Provenance (8:01)
Review: Mirko Muller heads deep into the night with this new single on the German label Kontakt. 'Provenance' is a perfectly unhurried nine minutes which defies the modern way of serving up content in short, shape, attention grabbing bursts. Instead this is a deep and dubby sound with a slow, lumbering rhythm and smudged synths that provides the basis for your brain to go off an explore on its own. The Don Williams remix provides a more direct sound but it is still super deep and fluid and a final cut ice against casts you adrift in a sea of dub techno tranquility.

Locked Down
Alotook
Review: A compelling force in deep and dubby techno, Octal Industries were originally formed in 2004 by America's Michael Sickinger and Iceland's Jonas Thor Gudmundsson but are now helmed solely by Gudmundsson, also known for his ambient-leaning work as Ruxpin. This new three-track release blends his mastery of space, texture and restrained groove within the techno framework. Side-A features 'Arborea', a lush dub techno cut featuring Oxun. Airy pads and crisp percussion give it a floating quality, while the haze of reverb-drenched textures keeps things soft and enveloping. It's melodic and deep without ever pushing too hardilike watching light shift through morning fog. Side-B opens with 'Locked Down', a deeper, more rhythmic affair. Subtle, nearly inaudible vocal snippets flicker like shadows in the background, adding a layer of mystery. The track thrives on balance with its rolling bassline that supports delicate floating chords, creating a mood that feels expansive. Closer 'Alotook' steps away from the dancefloor entirely, offering a beatless ambient piece that serves as a gentle comedown. It's introspective and cinematic, reinforcing Gudmundsson's emotional depth as a producer. This release feels like a quiet triumph. Rich, detailed and deeply personal techno that rewards attentive listening as much as it does late-night sets.

Review: Ohm & Kvadrant are back on their Kontakt label to kick off 2025 with another stunning dub outing. Pressed on classic black vinyl, with a limited gold edition also available, this EP features two exceptional tracks starting with the A-side, 'Peblinge.' It's a mesmerising melodic dub creation, rich with warmth and depth-perfect for those late-night sessions. On the B-side, a second jam delivers a refined electro-dub masterpiece, blending synths, hi-hats, and fathom-deep low-end frequencies. Both tracks showcase the duo's signature style with soothing results.

Subduction (7:02)
Glow (6:59)

Review: As well as a nice yellow pressing of this new EP from veteran producer Matt Thibideau, Kontakt is serving it up on good old-fashioned black wax. He has over 30 years of experience and his latest dub techno outing, Subduction & Shadows, is up there with the best of them. The first side features 'Subduction,' a vibrant track with uptempo dub techno beats perfect for the dancefloor while 'Glow' on the flip enchants with Detroit-inspired '90s chords and refined production enhanced by epic strings for a hypnotic touch. On Side-1, 'Subduction' sets the tone with uptempo dub techno beats that exude a positive vibe, making it a standout track for the dancefloor. Momentum (7:54)
Exodus (8:20)
Resolve (4:55)
Review: JS Zeiter returns with another masterclass in dub techno, proving why he has remained a staple in the genre for nearly three decades. The first track, Momentum, delivers the atmospheric, deep dub techno that has long defined Zeiter's sound, with swirling textures and a hypnotic groove that pulls you into its immersive world. On the second side, Exodus takes a more melodic turn, layering emotive synths over a deep techno foundation, creating a track that feels both expansive and introspective. Closing the release is Resolve, a more reserved offering, moody and subtle in its approach. While understated, it serves as a subliminal peak, building tension without overt intensity, showcasing Zeiter's ability to create depth with minimalism. This release is yet another testament to Zeiter's skill in crafting refined, atmospheric techno that remains both timeless and forward-thinking.
