Review: Recorded in 1975 after the disintegration of The Stooges and eventually released, albeit in altered form, in 1977, the album saw Iggy recording his vocal contributions at weekends, on leave from the mental institution at which he was recovering from heroin addiction. With the addition of pianos, acoustic guitars and saxophones to the musical palate it's a different beast from the raw power - and Raw Power - of the Stooges, a bridge between his garage rock roots and the classier pop offerings he'd soon become known for. A fascinating document, regardless, it's well worth a listen.

Review: A reissue of a reissue of Chris Isaak's 1989 opus Heart Shaped World - his third and best-known album, and the first to be released by Reprise Records. Heart Shaped World is Isaak's best-known album for a very good reason: by 1989, the American rockabilly musician had already released two rather ghostly, reverb-doused solo record, and it just so happened that he'd find himself within dark surrealist filmmaker David Lynch's orbit at this same time. It wasn't long before the filmmaker would commission one of Isaak's songs in his next film; this turned out to be Wild At Heart, for one of whose's ending montage sequences Isaak's 'Heart Shaped World' was both a titular and moody fit. Wicked Game was thus a unique record in that it would be catapulted to chart success despite sounding like nothing else in the charts at the time; Isaak recalls the Roy Orbison-esque style that still resounds so familiarly, yet uncannily in the Anglo-American psyche.

How Much Is The Sky Vol 4: Demos 1967-1969 (LP + hand-numbered autographed insert limited to 300 copies)

Review: A previously unreleased album by The Iveys (later to become known, and to receive much greater acclaim, as Badfinger), this 19-tracker is a raw, psychedelic, garagey early power pop record from a beloved Swansea troupe, whose stint with Apple Records ran alongside that of the Beatles' and followed the same trajectory of hype; six of these demos were at one point sent to Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Oldham. In fact made up entirely of rare demos, not initially intended to make any sort compiled cut, Y&T Music have nonetheless done the golden job of reissuing a Welsh rock n' roll treasure trove here, with 'Gwent Gardens', 'For My Sympathy' and 'Just Look Inside The Cover' standing out among the highlights.
