Drum And Bass/Jungle
Jungle Hardcore (4:47)
Pulp Fiction (4:45)
Pulp Fiction (remix) (5:43)
Review: One of the most iconic labels in jungle history, Ibiza Records continue to dig deep into the vaults for cult classics and unreleased gems. Now 12 editions deep into the series, this time we're treated to collaborations between 2 On A Tip (Jay-Cee and GT) and the bossman himself. 'Jungle Hardcore' hits first with its late 92 style hardcore riffs and oceanic breaks and sudden cosmic bridge while 'Pulp Fiction' comes in two different versions. Sampling the classic Tarantino film (complete with a bit of Dick Dale's surf guitars) both cuts go in hard with amens and chops with pure 95 fire. History on wax.

6Blocc - "Get Real"
Tony Anthem & Axl Ender - "Rocking It" (feat Prolific & Cojaxx)
BMC - "Bro" (feat Slim Thug)
Review: FoulPlay are fighting fit with a fearsome four-pack right here. With label mainstays 6Blocc and Prolific pulling the punches, it's a knock-out session from the very first round. "Party All Day" takes a little EDM/hip-hop schmoozing and throws it down with and a trap-esque flare. "Get Real", meanwhile, is more you classic bro sound with a screaming bass and savage hooks. Elsewhere we find Tony Anthem and Axl Ender spitting fast-flow bars over a classic saw-tooth ("Rocking It") and BMC bashing off the haters over repetitive streams of toxic laser bass ("Bro").

Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

Review: Muddy, dreamy and dubby new dance cuts from THREADS, who invite four of their mainstays to the fore with a dry and entraining take on trance. Kebab Traume (in English, 'Kebab Dream') wafts a mouth-watery cylinder of sonic meat under our noses with 'Nova Trance', which melds stabs, basses and kicks with all the certainty of a honey badger. Meanwhile, Mario Liberti's 'Treat Me Good' urges us to do just that via the mode sultry sampled vocals and funk bass whirls.

Review: The mighty Defeated has got a fun package on its hands here with some fat disco and house anthems primed and ready for big room summer fun. A'Studio's 'SOS' (feat Polina - Skylark remix - Nic Fanciulli edit) is chunky house with a hooky vocal and rolling groove designed to sweep you up and away. Review: Yam Who?'s Midnight Riot is back with another volume of funky, party starting edits, so come and get your fix. Aashton's "Pride" samples the diva vocals of you know who on this smooth and soulful number. Peza's "Black Gold" is pure classic disco, reminiscent of Salsoul, possibly? Fabiolous Barker's "The Paradise" has that retro and Balearic vibe that fans of labels like Love On The Rocks and Efficient Space will certainly dig. "The Jam" by Rayko is a re-edit of you guessed it: Technotronic's "Pump Up The Jam".

Sam Dredi (9:00)
Raie Gina (Ben Verden remix) (6:29)
Review: Minibar continues to represent a high watermark in the minimal scene, staying true to a knotty, freaky sound which has subtly evolved over time but remains faithful to the innovation in the scene in the mid 00s. On this new release, Abe & Praymond team up to explore some insistent, hiccupping grooves with Minibar's DNA etched deep. There's a woozy quality to 'Raie Gina' which contrasts with the snaking, crooked beat, while 'Nibar Kills' taps into a cosy after hours vibe not a million miles from the oddball brilliance of the old Boogizm records. 'Sam Dredi' is a more purely stripped down affair, while scene stalwart Ben Vedren remixes 'Raie Gina' and gives it a cool and deadly shuffle.

Sicknote & Escher - "Trouble Part 2" (5:48)
Review: Proper pristine, technical drum & bass here from the Transmute crew, expending far more effort than most junglists in fleshing out the body, weight and polish of each constituent sound. Mostly forgoing sampled breakbeats, the 'DUOS' EP hears refreshingly unusual sound design choices dance over a more straight-up rollage in the rhythm section(s). From the opening washer pads of Abstract Drumz & Optimystic's 'Energy To The Universe', to the closing techstep clanks of Sicknote & Escher's 'Trouble Part 2', this EP brings a variety of emotions to a gestalt whole, unified by its consistently clean production.

Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

DAVE The Drummer & Phil Kershaw - "Bassline Sunset" (6:55)
Review: Hydraulix Records continues to push the boundaries of ravey techno with Va03, a four-track EP that transports listeners back to the early '90s warehouse scene with its infectious energy and relentless beats. Side 1 kicks off with Acerbic's 'Deep In Your Mind,' a heavy sci-fi pounder that channels the essence of early '90s techno rave vibes. With nods to the big Belgium sounds and a prominent Hoover sound, this track is an instant banger that commands attention on the dancefloor. Following suit, Minor Dott's 'What You Callin Acid' delivers a menacing and sinister atmosphere, characterized by its mechanical and demonic undertones. It's a track that exudes raw power and intensity, perfect for those craving an adrenaline-fueled sonic experience. On Side 2, Andreas Kraemer & Shadym team up to bring us 'Reflect,' a percussive and loopy journey through hardcore rave sounds. The track pulsates with energy, immersing listeners in a hypnotic groove that's impossible to resist. Finishing things are Dave The Drummer & Phil Kershaw's 'Bassline Sunset,' a big room rave techno anthem that hits all the right notes. With its infectious bassline and euphoric atmosphere, this track is destined to ignite dancefloors worldwide. Each track on this EP offers a unique sonic experience, making it a must-have for fans of the early 90s rave scene.

Review: From the title to the artwork, everything about this EP screams high energy and peak time dancefloor explosions. And so it proves when you drop the needle into the first groove. It is Acid Mutant who kicks off with 'Disco Balls' which has lacerating synths spraying about the mix over turbo charged beats. P.I.N.O. Lopez then keeps up the pressure with 'Welcome To Rave' with its squiggly acid lines and hurried, hard hitting drums. Pozek - "Ept" (6:05)
Johnfaustus - "Oberon" (6:06)
Review: Despite the dystopian and post-apocalyptic aesthetics, some electro music stuanchly refuses to let up on the fun. Acidulant, Dima Gastroler, Pozek and Johnfaustus' new collab V/A for Zodiak Kommune is one such firelighter: 'The Electro Guilde III' seems to say, "you'll have fun on the floor, or else us mecha-cops will come for you!" Acidulant's 'Collateral Funk' leads the charge with a persistent drive to "identify" some lost subject of misdemeanour and/or truancy, as rapidfire snare snaps and licking bass stabs scour the lower terrain for a heat-sought outline of the perp. Dima Gastroler's 'We Will Survive' depicts an unstoppable robotic invincibility, the track's searing robo-voices seeming to portray the last stragglers of a cyborg race battling their way through fire thanks to a bioengineered, adaptively fireproof armour. B-siders 'Ept' and 'Oberon' from producers Pozek and Johnfaustus let up on the voicework for two melodic, yet corruptingly authoritarian air-raiders.

Review: Acid Sessions Vol. 3 is another white-knuckle journey into the world of acid with five top talents in the field all pushing their own limits. Acidulant opens with "Serpentacid' featuring hypnotic 303 grooves and relentless energy, then Sarufaromeo & Papaverhof deliver 'Acid Nihonshu' which blends atmospheric depth with chaotic acid vibes. Review: Perc's clearly a busy man these days; with his Perc Trax empire currently expanded to include two sub labels (Perc Trax Ltd and Submit) the revered UK industrial techno producer has joined forces with an equally respected Stateside counterpart on another label. The self explanatory AX&P operation sees Sonic Groove's Adam X align with Perc for a series of intermittent studio collaborations, with the decision to release under this joint banner due to the packed schedules of their respective labels. It's a collaboration that's apparently been in gestation for two years and it shows on this superb debut three track 12" AMPERE & OHM which brings out the best of both. Lead track "Coulomb" is a throbbing mass of tunnelling, weighty techno with sparse percussion snapping away sadistically as proceedings rumble menacingly forth. On the B Side "Dines" is wound tighter, unfurling with deadly precision into a worming DJ tool that takes on increasingly psychedelic qualities as it progresses, whilst "Joule" ensures the relentless nature is kept up but offers a more rhythmic based insight into the AP&X combination.

Review: Native New Yorker Adam "X" Mitchell has long been a fan of collaboration, with a long list previous sparring partners including Ancient Methods, Navario Suaro and, of course, his brother Frankie Bones. For Mutiny & Disorder, he's joined forces again with fellow techno veteran Alistair "Perc" Wells. The duo begin in typically retro-futurist fashion on "Mutiny", whose rising and falling synth lines, dense beats and clanking hits recall the early days of Roman techno. The "back-to-the-future" feel continues with the warped riffs, spacey electronics, apocalyptic textures, surging sub-bass and thunderous rhythms of flipside workout "Disorder".

Review: Black Quasar doesn't much about when it comes to serving up searing electro. This new collection of just that comes on the Conexiones Electronicas 12" and features some exciting artists all in top form. Adhesive's 'Tensegrity' opens with some nice catchy funk and lashings of synth energy, The Bandit's 'Festival' has a darker mood and None's 'The Ancient Musical Resistance' is a more experimental sound with bleeps, squeaks and busted beats. Promising Youngster also impresses with 'Rare House' and after the more dreamy synth sequences of Structweird's 'Lunar Loom' comes Pauk Youyu's fractured and loopy 'YUUUTSU.'

Afrobot - "Kalk Gidelim" (5:46)
Review: The success of Holland's AM edit imprint lies in its founders' desire to offer up on-point scalpel reworks of thoroughly obscure but inspired tracks from around the world. Naturally, there's plenty of evidence to support this argument on the label's sixth hand-stamped 12". AM regular Afrobot kicks things off via "Turkish Dream", a fine tweak of a boisterous, Hammond-heavy chunk of glassy-eyed late '60s dream pop, before Matt Moroder gets busy with a deliciously low-slung slab of Middle Eastern post-punk dub disco. On the flip, Potentiometer rearranges a seriously heavy Turkish funk-rock workout - think Rare Earth guitar riffs, sweaty drumming and eyes-closed solos - while Afrobot takes is further into psychedelic territory via the mind-altering, Moog-boasting brilliance of "Kalk Gidelim".

I Like To Recommend The Lord (4:32)
Review: Like many of the killer cuts reissued by Athens of the North, Ethel Agee, Preston Scarber and Reverend Dorosco Scarber's 'Travelling Home' was original released in tiny numbers as a private-press 45 sometime in the early 1970s. Agee wrote the track and played electric organ, with her brothers providing the vocals and local musicians' the funk-fuelled rhythm section. It still sounds great all these years on, delivering an authentically righteous, harmonious and beautifully played gospel soul treat. Over on the flip you'll find original flip-side 'I Like To Recommend The Lord', a piano-laden chunk of eyes-closed gospel blues that shuffles along at a lower tempo. Like the A-side, it features immaculate group harmony vocals.

Review: Acid Lab gets all two-face on this new EP for burgeoning jungle imprint Convoluted Records. First up are two collabs under his Ahmad alias; "Grinder" sees Gremlinz join the fray with a nasty hornets nest bassline and pitched breaks that seem to melt through the LFOs while Parallel helps him unleash the soul of Beelzebub himself on "Judgement Day". Review: It's been a long time coming, but the third platter from Bristol hub Schmorgasbord is here pairing long term West Country fixture Al Tourettes with German producer Paradroid for a clutch of back scratching productions. Face up it's a Tourettes original backed with a Paradroid remix and face down the roles are reversed and the results are pleasantly diverse. "Reality Hostess" leans with a drunken swagger, veering off to the left as weird analogue funk careens around your dome piece; somewhere deep within the machine hides a sensuous ghost. Paradroid straightens out proceedings with his remix as swift, crisp 808 snap away amidst the cacophony of reverberant stems, whilst his face down original "Brother Rides The Jailhorse" bumps with all manner of off centre delight. For his remix Tourettes replaces the playful house foundation of Paradroid's original in favour of woozy, stuttering broken electronics.

Review: Yam Who?'s ISM label come through with a four track slice of disco centric Futurism, featuring the man Yam himself alongside PBR Streetgang and Ron Basejam. It's the latter who takes the lead with a remix of Alena's "Changes" that sees her sultry vocal teased by a most excellent of analogue synth leads that splurges brilliantly across the crisp mid tempo chug. Yam Who? teams up with vocalist Natasha Watts for the similarly bottom heavy bump of "I'm In Love" which has a certain warehouse appeal to it. On the flip, PBR pay respect to the godfather of soul James Brown with the gritty flex of "J2thaB" with the sadly departed Mr Brown strangely sounding at times like he wants to go to Tesco. We always took him for a Waitrose man, but regardless this is probably the track you'll reach for most! Finally Brothers Young do their thing to a Trammps classic, with little more than the bassline retained. Big tip!

Review: 'Disco Tape', which launched via a must-check 12" back in August 2023, os Sound Exhibitions' multi-artist EP series. This second volume is a similarly action-packed affair that gleefully blurs the boundaries between reworks, re-edits and sample-heavy original productions. Alexny kicks things off with two sun-soaked treats - the percussive and warming tropical disco tribute 'Caribbean Breeze' and the sax solo-sporting dancefloor shuffle of 'Bada Boom' - before Paride Pavone rounds off side A with the jazzy disco-house celebration of 'In Key'. Phil Disco impresses on side B with two killer cuts (the funky bass-propelled disco heaviness of 'Never Gonna Leave You' and the swirling jazz-funk-house bump of 'Disco Ipno', while disco-funk specialist C Da Afro rounds things off in fine style via the insatiable grooves and fluttering flute solos of 'The Choice'.

Review: Ali Love makes his solo debut on the label with collaborator and Brazilian rapper Prince Andre. A Latin hip-house cum garage stonker, 'Da Da On' hears its vocal line from Andre flow effortlessly down the phone line, as a sampled vocal in the chrorus reflecfts the light-hearted subject of a one-night stand. Perfect for Carnival bum-shaking.

Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Erol Alkan - "Sub Conscious"
Phreak - "Acid On"
Review: To complement Erol Alkan's long overdue induction in the Fabric mix hall of fame, the London clubbing institution have pressed up this 10" featuring a rare original production from the Phantasy Sound boss backed with a early 90s rarity from Uwe Schmidt. Within the context of the mix the B Side precedes the A Side, but given how special an Erol Alkan original is, it's no surprise "Sub Conscious" is presented as the main draw here. Undoubtedly inspired by originators such as Hardfloor and Phuture, the acid soaked "Sub Conscious" still has a certain cosmic edge to it, whilst Phreak's "Acid On" sounds just as vital now despite the fact Schmidt originally recorded it some 23 years ago!

Scott Allen - "Jah Is Coming"
Pixel - "Babylon"
Review: Marco Grijsen and Scott Allen's Soul Rebel label may have waited almost a year to come through with a new 12" but it was more than worth it! Allen himself is involved, splitting sides with Soul Rebel debutant Pixel, a UK based producer whose made waves with a recent split release with Malaky on the Expressions label. Allen pulls rank and lines Side A with "Jah Is Coming" which lives up to it's conscious Rastafari title, pairing vicious amen-lead rhythms with the occasional drop into a skanking sample. The vibe is retained by Pixel on the rolling "Babylon" which is in truth a bit more playful in execution.

Review: Voice Notes is a new imprint run by London underground veteran Toby Tobias with Alphonse. A five track various artist EP, Voice Notes 002 is a time-honoured memorial for its sister label London Housing Trust, that they shut down a few years ago after 10 releases. Featuring tracks by label boss Tobias who delivers some emotive electro on 'Streets Of Gold', his evil twin Alphonse on the UK flava of 'Rujac', plus introducing Dance with the dub techno deconstruction of 'Amber', Rodney Bennett with the classic Stateside deep house of 'Palm Sunday' and Pyramids of Space with the downbeat IDM journey 'Quantis'.

Review: The XXX crew are on a mission to celebrate the adventurous and utterly well-informed dance music scene of Amsterdam, and they move to the fourth release on their label with a strong cast of characters that all have something different to say. Alterleo opens up the 12" with the low-throbbing psyche out of "Train To..." before Al Gobi takes over with the aqueous hardware house bubbles of "Rule Of Three". On the B side, Jack Pattern & John Parsley work together to lay down a fierce blend of industrial and disco that will send shivers down your spine. Roger Van Lunteren meanwhile revels in the squelchiest kind of esoteric acid with a new age mystique thrown in for good measure, and then Phil Gerus provides a soothing soliloquy to finish this distinctive record off.

Such Is The Ordeal
Review: The first two instalments of the brand new AM/PM 12" series guarantees a level of quality to all those converts to The End. With a soon-to-be-legendary performance coming up inside the crumbling glory of the east end - the fantastic Wilton's Music Hall - alongside fellow dust botherer Janek Schaeffer, Radovan Scasascia's increasing prominence on the live circuit promises further thrills galore. Radovan continues here in the same realm as with the acclaimed 'Also' EP. The source material here still comes from a carefully selected palette of final moments and last breaths of found recordings. The arrangements let them move in and out of time, creating mesmeric chance compositions, micro-tonal disharmonies and that typical AM/PM warmth. A total of four 12" releases are scheduled building up to a CD album due for 2007. Extremely high quality as always.

The first side delves into tribal rhythms and strident synths with Amandra keeping it stripped back and minimal and Dino Sabatini going deep and dubby on 'Danza Tribale'. Amaning & Dizplay - "Sienna"
Mijatoho - "Something True"
Sabre - "Floating Source"
Physics - "Far East"
Review: Amaning has been bubbling under on the drum & bass scene now for some time. 'Sienna' has Amaning's stamp of quality all over it, plus a little something extra from Dizplay. Starting out with a huge string soaked intro and leading into gigantic drop. With techy sounds, tough beats and loads of low end bass, this tune really shines and leaves you panting for more. 'Something True', from Mijatoho has crisp beats and bongos, allowing the tune to roll out on to the dance floor with ease. The creeping bass line keeps building throughout the intro until it hits home at the first drop and carries the tune through a soundscape of vocal samples, choppy beats and precision editing. Superb! Sabre has been a fast rising star on the drum & bass scene this year teaming up with artists such as Alix Perez & Jenna G. His talent has been well and truly recognised. 'Floating Source' is a perfect example of just what he's capable of. Beautifully atmospheric and eerily dark at the same time, this song has so many levels to it. The continuous and repetitive bass line gets you stuck in the groove while the tough beats keep you glued to the dance floor. 'Floating Source' is a must have for anyone who likes their tunes deep, dark and soulful. Physics, the Finnish producer is brimming with confidence and it really shows in the track 'Far East'. It is a deep and atmospheric tune that follows the mood of 'Floating Source' nicely on this EP. With a heavy middle eastern feel and a tough bassline, this tune is full of interesting ideas and clever drops that take you by surprise. A fantastic end to the 'Global Sessions Volume 2'.

Kosh - "The Mess" (5:08)
Review: Sounds Benefit founder Tom Joyce cast his net far and wide when sniffing out cuts to include on the label's latest multi-artist EP. There's plenty of little-known talent on show across the four tracks that make-up the EP, which come from artists based in Frankfurt, Paris and - most surprisingly - Casablanca. We're particularly enjoying the hybrid electro/spacey tech-house bounce of Peter Raw's wonderfully swinging "Brotherhood", though the deep and melodious electro bounce of Kosh's "The Mess" is also really rather good. Elsewhere, Manuel Schatz and Rob Amboule offer up some bold and snappy Motor City techno/acid house fusion, while HDV's "Digital Delight" is raw, analogue, funky and decidedly alien in tone.

Review: Zurich based DJ and producer Jimi Jules is one of the most promising upcoming artists within the international underground. With previous releases on top labels like Superfriends, Cocoon and local imprint Zukunft - he tops all that by being picked as selector for esteemed Berlin institution Watergate's 24th mix album. Here we get treated to a few exclusives from the mix on special vinyl format: on the first side we have Jules & Jesaya's +4 BPM Update of Ame's "119 BPM", there's also his collaboration with Domenico Ferrari on the sleazy lo-slung pop of "Parkuhr". On the flip, we soon discover its almost entirely a Jimi Jules affair (naturlich!) with his remix of Swiss/German duo Egopusher's "Flake" (venturing into truly sublime territory) and the dreamy and bittersweet tones of Ed Ed & Petja Virikko's "Sundroina" (feat Jinadu).

"Electronic Electro" is a driving and hypnotic track, with riffs and beats that reminds a little of the work of Benny Benassi. Distorted vocals point out the whole track with the call: "Electronic Electro". This track will surely function more than well in the clubs. Review: The mysterious 22recordings are Barcelona's loudest yet coolest answer to the scene's nascent popular demand for dark disco, gothic techno, neo-Italo and EBM; 2023 going into 2024 has witnessed them on a roll, issuing a string of fresh new EPs and singles in quick succession and all on vinyl no less. For the fourth addition to their original EPs series, this jet-set leather-bound inner circle welcome producers AMQN and PO into their coterie, and while we cannot for the life of us discern what these nominal acronyms stand for, we can almost certainly discern from the music on 'Capitulo IV' that said names probably refer to something deeply kinky, sublimated, transgressive. AMQN helms up the A for the hat-trick that is 'Natura', 'Este Mundo Es Loco', and 'SEX', spanning curious light-and-dark vacillations in uncategorisable yet no less propulsive sound - the essence of sadomasochistic switching, bottled in dance music form. PO opts for a different mood, with 'The Story Of Laura And Jim' tonally shifting into paranoiac narrations, gated phasings and dreamatic swells.

Review: A curious new acid house release from the Berlin record label Restoration, themed after the wiles of controversial cybersecurity software mogul John McAfee. We see it as no surprise that the anti-malware expert turned exiled psychonaut has had a release fashioned after him; of course, similar figures like Edward Snowden have had the privilege of releasing with famous techno giants like Jean Michel-Jarre. Here, though, three tracks come from house and techno mainstays, not software giants: 'Someone Else' hails from The Analogue Cops and comes with a remix from DJ Sotofett, painting a dystopian picture of a future acid state. 'Amazon Crime', meanwhile, in the mode of acid, describes the ever-growing list of crimes committable against a corporate empire upon whose services we grow increasingly reliant.

First up is Ancient Methods, who marches forth with the militant brutalism of "Cradle The True Side Of Reality" before OTHR turns in some cinematic EBM-flavoured intensity with "Damage Your Pain". While not much is known of him yet, we are sure that will change once people listen to this track: deep minimal house that crosses over into electro much in the vein of Frenchman TC80 or what his peers on Japan's Cabaret imprint are doing right now. Next up, Greek up and comer Simonas Paplauskas serves up the rolling and entrancing afterhours cut "Untitled" which takes its cues from the current sounds of Romania: an immaculate production. On the flip, the entire side is handed over to Ukrainian producer Peshka, who delivers another jagged yet downright wacky and unique take on reduced grooves with "Basic Instinct".
