Pipe & Slippers (5:54)

I Need You (6:10)
Review: Deep Jungle boss Harmony and long time pal Modified Motion get busy once again with their Subjects alias by way of this chop-slapping triptych. 'Pipe & Slippers' is like an old man who's still hard as nails but needs to wear reading glasses when he's reading the paper these days. He looks harmless but he'll chop your head off as soon as look at you and the savage drummage of 'Murder' is the soundtrack to the burial. Last but not least 'I Need You' closes the EP on a deep and dreamy one... Until those breaks come flying in and it's game over. You need this!

Review: Harmony and Modified Motion's Subjects alias continues to lay down timeless junglistic heat and the vibes fly out in all directions. 'In The Morning' is a full strength breakbeat assault with a pitched up vocal and rising sense of euphoria. 'Yummy' meanwhile brings those rushes on instantly with delicate pianos taking the lead and the drums driving more of a hardcore dynamic to the groove. Stunning - as always with Deep Jungle!

Another Level Of Love (feat Aya Dia) (5:19)
Western Times (4:54)
Review: Submorphics' Rosebay imprint has been an absolute gold mine for soulful and warm, funky and cosmic D&B and this link-up with the man of the moment Zar is certainly no exception. 'Another Level Of Love' is a surging slab of soul that could be told at any tempo. Gentle keys, balmy (but bold) pads and a scorchio vocal from Aya Dia, this hits the spot on a whole new level (ahem) For a deeper instrumental vibe look no further than 'Western Times'. A lilting, far-away texture sets the vibe while little swirls and jazzy twangs add all the colouring your soul requires. Beautiful.

Review: Ubsism is back with more sonic adventures that explore hybrid and aquatic sounds and blend shifting atmospheres, spiraling variations and adventurous rhythms. Inspired by the ocean's deepest zones, this dawn dance album invites listeners into a world of sonic immersion with its pulsating dub basslines, ethereal pads and high-energy grooves. Hadale creates an otherworldly experience here as he oscillates between tranquility and intensity. The EP's unique approach offers a journey through deep, immersive soundscapes that mean it is perfect for both reflective listening and the dance floor alike. It's a bold and fluid work.

It's Time (5:09)
Ain't Got No Home (5:38)
Review: French DJ and producer Suburb Beat keeps it street with this neat EP on Sounds of Style Records. The opener has a different kind of swagger with crisp, broken, dry drums and lingering bass notes topped with an aloof vocal. It's a nice new twist on tech house and the remix from Nenor layers in more bobbing beats and muted neon tones for a future house feel. It's a tune that again features late-night sounds that hark back to early West Coast tech from the likes of Fresh & Low and 'Aint Got No Home' shuts down with warming deep house tones that come with a sleek electronic edge and subdued sense of cool. Lovely.

Review: London's Lonewolf are an unstoppable machine, unerring in their ability to output solo artists' EPs while juggling outputting huger year-end compilations. This latest from Suicide Aftr 7 is a higher-calibre acid techno stirrer, doing a rather sophisticated justice to the otherwise broad aesthetic that is "eerie atmospheres and mystic soundscapes". 'Double Speak' pairs naive vocals with strobing lead lines, while 'Tomorrow's Past' darkens the proceedings by way of descendingly gothic minor tones, before 'Rubber Lover' flattens the mood through classic Chi-claps and breathy vocals.

And now what's more it also features a fresh acid dub. The original eight minute opus has been expertly trimmed for a streamlined A-side stomper, while the B-side showcases a brand-new version with a reimagined arrangement. Review: Originally dispatched to the universe digitally via Candy Mountain, Sun People's powerful 'Emotional Distortions' now enjoys a vinyl boost-up and is sounding all the better for it. Landing just in time for the summer, each cut startles and satisfies in equal measure. 'Seul' lights an electroid fire, hitting us in our most introspective feels before 'Runaway' takes things up a notch and adds much more techno urgency to the scenario. Flip for two more slightly slower tempo shock-outs... 'Rhythm Guitar' brings a little funk before 'Exhausting Care' closes with more angular electro sharpness. Time to get emotional.

Review: The tireless work of Funk Night continues here more steamy late-night sounds. This time it's Sunday Papers at the helm and first off comes 'Smoke.' It's a dense, busy cut with sleazy guitar riffs, plenty of sonic grit, raw, edgy drums and vocal stabs as well as some hints of psyched-out soul. On the flip, the rather horribly titled 'Greasy Meat Pocket' is actually a lovely sound with pensive piano chords and signature Hammond organ grooves that make for a nice late night jaunt.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: It's reissue time for one of the most in demand records from the Trelik catalogue, featuring Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior under their Sunpeople alias. The flip side's opening track 'Check Your Buddah' is probably the best known of the four tracks here, with its spacious echoes, mantra-like voices and heads down beats, but there's plenty to be said for the other three. 'Lovers Eyes' is an equally dubby techno affair, but pinned down by sturdy, infectious beats, 'Sungods Wedding' is blessed with churning, warm bass action and just a smidge of cowbell and 'Make It Right' is properly hypnotic 3am gear that's a dream to mix and draws in the listener with its imperceptible builds and three note bleep magic. Worship the Sun!

Review: Italian label Suoni Incisi launched in 2020 with a mission to offer up hugely emotional electronic music that fuses experimentation with multi-genre explorations. The boss that gave their name to the label takes charge of this third transmission and it is a deep techno journey into sustained chords, mysterious pads and the sort of muttered vocals that add real atmosphere. 'Track 2' on the flipside is similar in make-up with liquid rhythms, cavernous and dubby bass and subtle musings, this time with some eerie flute melodies drifting up top.

Review: Having previously advised us to Get Flutey and indeed sample her Brake Fluid - two particularly memorable track titles - the irony of this new release title from Aussie-in-London Surusinghe is not lost on us. It's also apt; it's hard to place a name on such an exciting fusion of styles. Technoid in nature but electro, bass and house in its soul and warmth, cuts like the unrelenting bash of 'FTRW!' and the sultry alure of 'Kinda Like That' deft genre containment and operate much more as a feeling and a groove than a boundary. And that is very much ok!

Review: Three South American artists - SV3, Trajano, Sebastian - converge alongside French maestro TC-80 on a new, gung-ho vinyl release from Coqueto. Reflecting a para-militant mood, from 'Armament Belico' to 'Hipnosis Global', hi-tech metanoia is balanced with a crude militancy here, reflecting an aggressive permutation of trance. Closer 'Desapariciones' (from Spanish, "disappearances"), we round out on a scathing but ghostly judgment call, with gasping transitions and tanky poundings.

If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine) (3:14)
He's Sweet I Know (5:09)
Review: A soulful 45 reissue from the Swan Silvertones - a band from America's deep south who bridged the gap between doo-wop's close harmonies and rock 'n' roll in the 1940s and 50s - delivering two powerful tracks that will resonate with fans of gospel, funk and blues. Side-1 features a high-energy, gospel-infused funk track with a strong vocal performance that channels the spirit of James Brown. Its catchy rhythm and bold message make it an instant standout. On the flip side, this one has a more laid-back vibe, blending soulful blues and gospel influences for a deeply emotional and smooth listening experience. A perfect balance of intensity and tenderness from the band said - by the man himself no less - to have inspired Paul Simon to write 'A Bridge Over Troubled Water'.

Yardarm (11:12)
Review: Swayzak's role in establishing minimal makes them one of the scene's greats. Their meticulously compiled discography has many treasures, and plenty of them are hard to find and expensive. That has long been the case with this EP, originally from 1998, but now reissued by the back-cat boffins at Rawax. 'Lokal' has it all across 11 immersive minutes, from the deft, loopy drum programming that floats above the floor to the wispy and synthetic melodies and churning synth hooks. 'Yardarm' is another majestic minimal symphony, though this one hits a little harder and might well be the best of the two because of it. It's a perfect mix of dreamy mental escape and irresistible body music for the wee-small hours.

Floyd (7:08)
Doobie (7:33)
Review: First released in 1999, Swayzak's 'Floyd/Doobie' shook the British duo's catalogue. Though it wasn't 'Bueno' or 'Fukumachi', this deep house cut was the next best choice for followers of the then burgeoning tech house circuit. Swayzak were already favourites on this and the deep house scene, and had clawed in acclaim for their involvement in both as early as 1993. One particularly prolix bio deems them the incipients of "1st wave 2000-era progressive deep minimal", which is too analytic even for us manic categorisers. No, we prefer to take these two big-hitters as they are: brimming with enthusiasm for a gadget-packed future, 'Floyd' fizzes and twitches with the pulsing blurts of a saw synth, as if to suggest constant magnetic stimulation from above. 'Doobie', meanwhile, hears our protagonist disrobe the techno utility belt, returning to a wireless home, so to gaze out over a subtly detuned chord landscape set to munching percs.

Escape The Future (6:33)
Hydro Pump (6:06)
Review: Philadelphia-based producer Sweater lands on MME with four vividly imagined club tools that fuse house, electro and sci-fi atmospherics with a tactile, floor-focused energy. 'Mighty Morphin' opens with loose-limbed drums, soft chord flashes and a buoyant groove that glows with warmth and movement. 'Body Scan' follows in darker hues-ghosted vocals and a rubbery bassline orbit around crisp percussion and flickering synth detail. The B-side leans heavier: 'Escape The Future' dives into dubby, low-slung territory, rolling out a shadowy pulse designed for dim, smoke-filled rooms. 'Hydro Pump' closes on an electro tip-playful but tight, its blipping leads and darting textures skimming over nimble, broken rhythms. Smart, weighty and imaginative, it's a bold step forward for both artist and label, primed for the more adventurous end of the night.

Sweet Female Attitide - "Flowers" (3:43)
Architechs - "Body Groove" (feat Nana) (3:35)
Review: What true head doesn't know 'Flowers'? Produced infamously by Sunship (Ceri Evans), this keystone lintel of the 90s UK garage door frames Leanne Brown's vocal - originally recorded as part of a much slower r&b demo - against a rolling, skippy beat that's all bounce and shimmer. Lyrically, it's a lovesick anthem, filled with longing and the ache of distance, but the groove keeps it light on its feet, providing a crossover appeal with a perma-adhesive sticking power. Though Sweet Female Attitude didn't follow it with another major hit, 'Flowers' has never faded. Tend to your garden, and your blooms won't wilt.

Review: Sweet Female Attitude was the first all-female fronted garage act, and they also dropped one of the genre's most enduring classics. 'Flowers' is pure sunshine and party, from the holy vocals to the soulful bassline and nice raw drums. Her hit gets a subtle rework by Sunship before the Sunship vs Chunky remix flips out the vocal for live MC mic work. '8 Days A Week' then gets niofused with classic 90s basslines and 'DJ Play It (Sunship remix)' closes with more of that old school charm and r&b laced garage swagger.

Review: Relatively recently reformed 'Camden lurch' icons Swervedriver release their first new music in more than five years. Two tracks were recorded with Ride's Mark Gardner, at his OX4 Sound studio in Oxfordshire. The other two were recorded - quite surprisingly - by Rick Beato, who we all know is usually interviewing great guitar players. Well, he clearly has ability himself and is a massive fan of the band so is well suited. The format of this release is what's quite surprising and refreshing. We often see bands releasing EPs when they first start out and Swervedriver haven't put out one since the early 90s when they were on Alan McGee's Creation Records and riding the shoegaze boom that had begun with the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. It's a thoroughly welcome return to the shelves from one of Britain's most treasured bands.

Deeplight (6:55)

Review: Two electrifying tracks that are tailor-made for the main stage, combining powerful rhythms and high-energy techno set to ignite pretty much any dancefloor. The title track, 'Deeplight', sets the wheels in motion with its tribal-driven percussion, gradually building intensity to become a relentless, attention-grabbing force, the hypnotic elements and steady groove making it a standout piece. On Side-2,'Black Dog' takes things further, fusing an exciting blend of house and disco influences with big, pounding techno. The track's floor-filling energy is enhanced by the clever mix of classic genres, resulting in a track that not only keeps the momentum high but introduces a refreshing depth with its dynamic progression. Produced by veteran New York-born Jerome Sydenham in collaboration with the German collective Cosmic Soldier, 'Deeplight' effortlessly blends different techno styles with its own distinctive flair. Both tracks are finely tuned for high-impact performances.

Cognitive Network (6:32)
Review: Matt White and Paul Baines make a welcome studio return, dusting off their collection of synths and drum machines to resume their previously fruitful and, until recently, paused Synaptic Voyager collaboration. The Sheffield-based duo's work draws upon the Steel City's vast electronic music heritage, and their latest effort, arriving on the always-reliable Cyphon Recordings, is a masterclass of emotive electro futurism. The title track sets the EP off on the strongest possible footing, with lush pads and gorgeously evocative melodies looped over crisp drums and thick analogue bass. The growling funk bass of 'Lonely Promontory' combines with blissed-out synths and jagged rhythms, while the alien bleeps and driving kick of 'Stellar Engine' power through hypnotic harmonics and rolling bass. 'Once Exposed' adds a layer of Motor City grit to the sonic palette, before the 4/4 thrust and arpeggiated bass of 'Cognitive Network' drives smoke machines and strobes for a nocturnal warehouse workout.

It was a classic back then and it remains so which is why it now gets reissued. 'Resynth' is pure electronic madness with mad inventive rhythms. Review: After originally being self-released as a white label, Synthasy's breakbeat hardcore debut quickly gained cult status. It was engineered by Jezz Wright, who did renowned work on Liquid's 'Sweet Harmony' and Lemon D's early EPs and was distributed through London shops. High demand led to a full artwork repress, but copies vanished swiftly and helped cement its cult reputation as a rare gem. Over time, it became a coveted collector's item that commanded high prices - but not any more, thanks to this latest reissue. The rain, directness of the music, rave-ready synths and unforgettable vocal cries that turn the emotion up to 11 mean this debut remains a standout from early '90s rave culture.

U first is 'Get Criminal' which is a rework of an MJ classic with his smoky vocals reusing by scene else in a more unsettling fashion and the original drums run through with some futuristic and molten melodies. Review: Reissued 30 years on, SYT's 'Deep Drift' first hover-slammed its way onto our turntables as a spinoff EP of the much-nattered-about Shave Yer Tongue free party, which took place every Sunday night somewhere in suburban West London. The night's founders, Scott James and Christopher Hayne, took on this duo-deistic alien guise as a response to the tractor-beaming blisses they'd experienced on the dancefloor, yet which they could not find solid enough expression for in words. 'Siren' and 'Loop Hole' span allotropic forms of the same style, quantum superpositions of trance: cascading, welcoming, introductory; then cautionary, hovery, supernatural. 'Drift' goes big on the surround mix with extra boxy kicks; 'Jitter' then serves as a bleeping, free-teknikal enervation in trance, and is by far the best on the record, for its unguent stereo design and strobing synth patch layers.

Review: We can hear a hint of early New York house heads like Todd Terry in the way the drums are constructed on this new one from Toribio, who has linked up with Sharin for an authentic vocal flourish. Her silky tones lend real quality to the choppy analogue drums and lodge top lines deep in your brain. After the original comes an alternate mix with some extra jazzy chords moving about the mix, and then closing things out is a Crackazat remix. In this one, the drums take on a bit of a garage swing with extra weight making you move while the soulful vocal flair remains in place up top.

Festival Journey VA EP
Gregor Tresher - "Bonegrinder" (8:14)
Works Of Intent & Voltaire - "Cascade Rips" (6:38)
Marco Bailey - "Arcane" (4:30)
Tom Hades & Soren Aalberg - "Perditae" (6:08)
Review: This four-track compilation draws a tight line between warehouse muscle and emotional lift, delivering techno that's as moving as it is functional. Each cut brings a distinct perspective, yet they all share a sense of cinematic build and focused production. Gregor Tresher starts with 'Bonegrinder', a slow-burn builder that creeps forward before erupting into a peak-time workout. The groove is tight, the progression deliberate and when it hits full stride, it lands with impact. 'Cascade Rips', a collaboration between Works Of Intent and Voltaire, brings a different mood entirely. Its rolling bassline sits beneath a futuristic synth lead that feels both suspenseful and strangely touching. There's emotion under the surface and it simmers just right. On the Side-B, Marco Bailey drops 'Arcane', built around raw drum machine sequences and electro pulses. It grooves hard with a throwback vibe, nodding to early rave with metallic melodies and vocodered snippets that recall Kraftwerk without mimicking. The closer, 'Perditae' by Tom Hades and Soren Aalberg, floats into a more euphoric space. Its rising melody and ghostly vocals feel like they're beamed down from the heavens. A smartly curated collection of peak and soul.

Deep Dubstep
Trollied (4:10)
Dread (3:50)
Synapse Flare (4:20)
Shallow Grave (5:35)
Review: Plenty of lad argot might rightly refer to the state of being blackout drunk, but few are so evocative and spot-on than the word "trollied". Right too that it should work its way into this fresh collaboration between Tunic and Sentient, neither of whom are newcomers but whose twin efforts are news to Dub Colony, fresh outta Bern, Switzerland. 'Trollied' and 'Dread' chart the course of a regrettable night at 140bpm, with high-brushing womp basses and nauseating bumps in the night, while 'Synapse Flare' and 'Shallow Grave' veer more experimental, their sludge-muffling sound design and triplet wois offering the listener a fork in the road between a return to full cognitive function or early death.

Umwelt - "Alchemy" (5:05)
Silex92 - "Blades & Pillows" (5:06)
Ancient Methods - "The Clock Hands' Endless Mantra" (5:14)
Phase Fatale - "Corporate Graft" (4:49)
Review: This compilation marks a decade of relentless techno energy, celebrating the underground legacy of Lanna Club with four powerhouse producers. This isn't just a compilationiit's a snapshot to a decade of raw, uncompromising sound. Umwelt kicks things off with 'Alchemy', an intense, hard-hitting track where pounding beats merge with traces of trance, electroclash and EBM. It's a high-energy, mind-bending opener that sets the tone for the record's deep journey ahead. Silex92's 'Blades & Pillows' follows with a slower, yet equally heavy approachiits trudging rhythm and sci-fi-infused melodies create an ominous and hypnotic atmosphere. On Side-2, Ancient Methods delivers 'The Clock Hands' Endless Mantra', a percussive, looping techno storm laced with tribal and alien textures. It's the kind of track that transforms a dancefloor into a ritualistic experience. Phase Fatale closes things out with 'Corporate Graft', a showcase of strong production and dystopian energy, where industrial undertones meet body-shaking rhythms. What you get is, four powerful examples of current style in techno.

Jay Vegas - "Sunshine People" (6:33)
Tenacious - "So Good" (6:31)
Sgt Slick - "Everybody Dance" (5:30)
Tommy Glasses - "Time" (5:35)
Review: The "fool's paradise" is a classic device, espoused by many a luminary from Milton to Dante, referring to a special kind of metaphysical plane reserved for those too foolhardy to reflect on their lived misdeeds in any of the main three afterlives: heaven, hell or purgatory. It stands to reason, then, that a small band of nu-disco and house proponents should name their label after it, not least for the stupefying power of disco, and/or the sense of having evaded our sins when compelled to dance! A spin-off of Toolroom, head soundsmith Mark Knight gathers four guardian expiators to lead us into the vainest of all discotheques - Joey Vegas, Tenacious, Sgt. Slick, and Tommy Glasses - for a lulling set of automotive power-disco dreams, in which many a familiar sample from our fleshly lives - from the 70s and 80s, to be exact - filter in and out.

SameSame - "Novel End" (8:01)
Review: One Eye Witness rounds up another four acts for their periodic V/A series, spewing forth four breaks-driven whooshers crossing into progressive techno territory. The Hague duo Young Adults nod to a 1997 Loveparade anthem with 'It's Only Temporary', while breaks and kick implants converge on Christopher Ledger's 'Change That', a track which sounds like the starting firings of an interplanetary expedition pod after years of disuse. Joely brings cosmic chug on the cocooning B1 'Transitional', while the Samesame closer 'Novel End' is just that, traversing a noxious atmosphere with a flexoskeletal electro beat.
