Review: Originally released in 1977, 'Deliver Me From My Enemies' is one of those roots reggae tunes that became something of a cornerstone of the gene from the visionary Vivian "Yabby You" Jackson. It is the title track of his third album and was recorded at Channel One Studio with mixing by the great King Tubby so was as real and authentic as it gets. Review: After making his debut alongside Avangart Tabldot on Crib Records earlier in the year, Yet More - the chosen artistic alias of Paris-based Syrian-Iranian producer Teymour Khalatbari - has been handed a solo debut on Dixon and Ame's popular Innervisions imprint. It's an opportunity he's grasped with both hands. Check first the pleasingly heavyweight (and accurately titled) 'Bounce', where mutilated rap vocal samples, rave-igniting stabs and pots-and-pans percussion fills ride a tough, sub-heavy groove that sits somewhere between Kenny Dope and late 90s Danny Tenaglia. The Sound Factory/Twilo vibes continue on dark big room roller 'Tryna Jack My Style', while title track 'Back 2 Feelin' is a warming, dreamy and lusciously kaleidoscopic blend of shuffling breakbeats and sun-bright deep house nous. A wonderfully assured and impressive EP all told.

On 'Shake Your Body Down', which lands on the label founded by the Funky French League collective of which he also a member, Ozonder mixes stems from a forgotten disco gem with his own beats and instrumentation. The lost azure in question is KC & The Sunshine Band's 'Get Down Tonight' (1975), and Young Pulse's version is restless as it is redolent of fishy funk, exuding eurgh-inducing effluvia at every turn, be that through wow-modded bass progs or topline squeezers. The Beat Street Mix on the B-side moves much more streetwise, trawling, navvying the rues with a cabbie's knowledge of Cybotronique vocoders, 2-step breakdowns and factory-fire percs reminiscent of the turn of the 80s, almost completely upending KC's original for an entirely new mix.

Review: Susumu Yokota's venerated 1994 classic Acid Mt. Fuji is reissued in expanded, deluxe fashion, as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the label that originally released it. Japan's Musicmine - specifically its electronic subsidiary Sublime - released the album on June 29, 1994, simultaneously with Ken Ishii's Reference To Difference, as their inaugural joint offering. Tantamount to a fusion of ambient acid/rave - then still nascent in Japan - with new age music, Susumo Yokota was likely the best man for the job at the time. With his first album, The Frankfurt-Tokyo Connection, he'd not yet established his electro-pastoralist style, yet it was Acid Mt. Fuji that divined the latter-day emotes of Sakura, a new age so adroitly fused with electronica yet emulable by few. Though the later years of Yokota's life have been couched in a good deal of privacy and mystery, Acid Mt. Fuji certainly betrays a fittingly shrewd and introspective character on the part of the artist, one that served him well. Its long, drawn-out nature soundscapes - tempered by the piquant sounds of modern synths like the TB-303, which animistically, pseudohallucinogenically blend with the animal sounds themselves - recall something like an alpine augur's waking dream.

Review: In January, it was revealed that Thom Yorke composed the original score for Daniele Luchetti's film, Confidenza, which is based on Domenico Starnone's novel. XL Recordings now has that soundtrack on vinyl and it follows Yorke's acclaimed score for Luca Guadagnino's 2018 Suspiria remake, Suspirium, which earned a GRAMMY nomination. Yorke collaborates with producer Sam Petts-Davies again here , as well as the London Contemporary Orchestra and a jazz ensemble, including Robert Stillman and Tom Skinner. It is a grand and emotional work from the cult Radiohead legend.

Review: Much to nerdy Japanese electronic lovers' delight, Temporal Drift reissued Hiroshi Yoshimura's Surround last year, and now carry on focussing on his work with the first-ever reissue of Flora, an overlooked gem in ambient music. Recorded in 1987 but unreleased until 2006, which was three years after Yoshimura's sad passing, Flora carries on in style where his acclaimed works Green and Surround left off. It's another sublime record that highlights Yoshimura's ability to explore the interplay between sound and ambience. He was a diverse talent who also created an album for museum playback, and composed a soundtrack for a contemporary fashion show.

Review: Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad share the 21st volume in the 'Jazz Is Dead' series, the LA-based "love story" founded by the pair in the fallout of the latter's involvement in A Tribe Called Quest. Jazz Is Dead is a longstanding series committed to unearthing and re-sharing the jazz artists who, after initial releases, found continual success in the continua of hip-hop and pop, especially by way of being sampled by other artists. That said, all the artists featured share new contributions to the series, rather than reissued goldies. A new eight-track record, this is yet another LP, one that multiplicitously celebrates and continues the legacies of the greats: chief among them this time is Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat pioneer Ebo Taylor - whom at 88 years old contributes the jolly synth-sonic rivulet 'Obi Do Woa', a sagacious modernising of his originally 70s and 80s psycho-beat sound - and Antonio Carlos e Jocafi, who updates, in the label's own words, "some of the sweetest samba-soul of the 1970s by way of Salvador, Bahia," Brazil. An all-out arsenal of differential Afrobeats (among other kinds of beat), packaged and presented for the modern listener gripped by an insatiable curiosity for the past.
