Review: David Kennedy aka Pearson Sound is not one for releasing music a-la LIES, preferring instead to hold off until he's got something really special. The Hessle Audio co-founder come through with a delicious and conniving little 7" on his self-titled label, in what seems like a prolongation of some of his earlier work. Without a beat in sight, Kennedy delivers the good anyway and creates two lovely grooved out thin air....or rather, out of gorgeous synth manipulations. This is one for the heads and come recommended...

Review: Plants Army Revolver debut on Avian. The Italian live act will join Avian for a five track EP showcasing the pair's breadth as producers. Working within the bounds of a carefully refined sound palette, Marco Ragni & Birgan Valentin look to the more muted, tentatively melodic end of loop Techno, with excursions into washed out Ambient & leftfield Electronica, placing the focus on sound texture & tone.

Review: Since bursting onto the scene via a series of bustling, bass-heavy and dancefloor-focused 12" singles at the turn of the decade, Pariah (AKA late developer Arthur Cayzar) has been surprisingly quiet. It turns out he was ridden with angst about the music he was making and unsure of which direction to take. As this long-awaited - and, we should add, rather brilliant - debut album proves, he's final found inner peace. "Here From Where We Are" is, first and foremost, a home listening album. It contains gentle, evocative and slowly shifting electronic soundscapes that largely look towards ambient, neo-classical, drone and dub techno for inspiration. There's no speaker-busting sub-bass explosions or riotous peak-time rhythms, just becalmed and stunningly beautiful compositions that are in turns spellbinding, melancholic and hugely poignant.

Arthur’s Return
Review: Few have done more for Norwegian electronic music than scene founder Bjorn Torkse and second wave hero Prins Thomas. It's somewhat of a thrill, then, to see them join forces in the studio for Square One, an album that draws deeply on both producers' love of trippy dub effects, krautrock, exotic Eastern instrumentation and African-influenced percussion. Sticky, humid and skewed, the set contains a few club-ready moments, but for the most part sees the duo create percussive, off-kilter soundscapes that sit somewhere between the loose wonkiness of DJ Sotofett (himself heavily influenced by Torske) and the krautrock end of Prins Thomas's output. Unsurprisingly given the pair's combined talents, it's a very impressive album.
