Daddio
Daddio (12")
Cat: LOT 49030. Rel: 09 Nov 07
Daddio (original)
Daddio (Trevor Loveys remix)
Daddio (Miles Dyson remix)
Review: Featuring the impressive talents of Yolanda, who has previously appeared alongside the likes of Massive Attack and Bugz in the Attic, "Daddio" is a no holds barred dancefloor assault with equal parts dirty funk and grinding vocal melodies. This package comes with some heavy-hitting remixes from the likes of Trevor Lovey and Miles Dyson. Don't miss this 30hz release on Lot 49.

Sweat Ur Prayers
Cat: RADIANTLOVE 005. Rel: 10 Jun 22
Sweat Ur Prayers (7:34)
Waves (5:28)
Dreaming Is Essential (with Eoin DJ & Ruin) (8:07)
Sweat Ur Prayers (Lawrence Lee remix) (5:36)
Review: There is something of a tribal feel to the throwback drums and breaks of Byron Yeates's first solo EP. It comes on Radiant Love and showcases a fine studio skill that draws on his experience as a DJ to really work the floor in fresh new ways. After an epic eight minute breakbeat bubbler, 'Waves' flips the vibe entirely with a beachy downbeat cut perfect for Cafe Mambo at sunset. He links with Eoin DJ & Ruin for the high speed chase that is 'Dreaming Is Essential' and then to round out, Lawrence Lee remixes the title track into a scuffed up and flat footed techno banger.

Bless
Bless (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIVID 07. Rel: 04 Oct 21
Bless (5:34)
We Come In Pieces (5:34)
Too Dread (5:47)
All Out (5:21)
Review: Vivid does a fine line in breakbeat, techno and bass and has killer cuts from Borai and Tomashi in its discography. Now they look to Yosh who has two EPs ready for the label. This one kicks off with the rinsing old school jungle breaks of 'Bless', which is all dark energy and jerking rhythms. 'We Come In Pieces' is just as kinked with devastating drum programming, and 'Too Dread' gets a little more euphoric with its warm pads strewn over the top of the knotted bass and busy drums. Closer 'All Out' is another bit of pure dance floor bliss.

Destruction
Destruction (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VIVID 05. Rel: 15 Mar 21
Destruction (5:50)
The Source (6:03)
Back Up (6:01)
One Time (5:34)
Review: Following searing drops from the likes of Borai and Tamoshi, Vivid come correct once more with this blistering 12" from Yosh. You may have spotted Yosh elsewhere, such as with the formidable One More Night EP for Timeisnow, but now they're back on familiar ground for more of that head-tweaking breakbeat science. There are more ragged ructions like lead track 'Destruction', and dreamier fare such as the blissful 'The Source', but throughout it's the diversity in drum palettes and needlepoint editing skills that make Yosh's tracks so vibrant and deadly. Miss this at your peril.

PPPPP: The Remixes Part 2
PPPPP: The Remixes Part 2 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: RCM 020. Rel: 10 Apr 24
PPPPP (Head High aka Shed remix) (6:39)
PPPPP (Ian Pooley Deep dub) (7:09)
PPPPP (Drunken Diva Scream remix) (6:12)
PPPPP (Johannes Albert remix) (5:59)
Review: youANDme has always been an important cog in the wheel of underground house and techno and his recent PPPPP was another fine project that has also spawned plenty of equally brilliant remixes. This is a second collection of them and it kicks off with the Polish master of perfect loop techno, Head High aka Shed. His bulky, barreling drums and big percussive loops come with plenty of bounce and raved up vocals. After that come Ian Pooley's dub, and Johannes Albert's deep house trip. Sasha, Roger Sanchez and Laurent Garnier have already been banging these so now it's your turn.

I'm Still Mellow
Cat: ST 018. Rel: 23 Mar 22
I'm Still Mellow (6:55)
Wollem Llits M'i (6:47)
Review: Astonishingly, nearly seven years have passed since the last 12" single from Young Marco hit stores. While he's kept himself busy co-curating two volumes of proto-trance anthology series Planet Love and recording a tropical-tinged album (2019's hazy and home listening-focused Bahasa), it's still nice to see him refocus on delivering future dancefloor anthems. 'I'm Still Mellow' is a wholehearted tribute to a psychedelic, sample-heavy Dutch style of the early '90s known as Mellow, which was a kind colourful and loved-up take on British hardcore and European techno. Young Marco's interpretation is simple but devastatingly effective, with fluttering synth sounds and gorgeous electronics tumbling down over a booming bassline and heavyweight breakbeats. Turn to the flip and you'll find a fully psychedelic backwards version. Trippy!

The Early Sound Of Nothing (6:28)
The Early Sound Of Nothing (Maruwa remix) (6:34)
Counter Future (7:07)
Counter Future (Sophie Du Palais remix) (6:49)
Review: 90s Wax label head and Berlin-based producer Francesco Mingrino aka Younger Than Me is doing a fine job of carving himself out a niche in the world of proggy and retro post-rave house. This fresh new slab 'The Early Sound Of Nothing' on Warning is a real throwback to the early days of Sasha & Digweed when they played at parties like Renaissance. The Maruwa remix is a more direct and tense affair and then on the B-side, 'Counter Future' brings more layers of tripped melody and lively, punchy drums that really lock you in. A Sophie Du Palais remix closes this potent package.

Look Mum No Hands
Cat: WSDM 024. Rel: 02 Feb 23
Look Mum No Hands (6:01)
Same Same (6:47)
Close Fall (6:07)
Self Couscous (5:05)
Review: Pressure Dome's Yussh gets busy with her debut EP on Wisdom Teeth. Flexing fully across four tracks, her signature fusion of breakbeat, bass, jungle and club hits the spot in true Bristol brutalist fashion. 'Look Mum No Hands' eases us in with a dreamy, spacious halftime trip while the recent single 'Same Same' continues to keep the subtle sense of chill with its floating chords and slinky percussion. Elsewhere 'Close Fall' sounds like it could have come from the desk of Kid Drama and dBridge's Autonomic HQ while 'Self Conscious' closes on a deep space cosmic jungle/techno hybrid. No hands, no fear.

Review: Since he first landed on our radar via Vivid a few years back, Yosh has dished out enough high grade garage and breakbeat gear to fuel the scene on his own. Not only a prolific producer, he's also got a razor sharp flair which edges him in front of a crowded scene, and now he's back to Vivid to show us exactly what he's about with a 12-track double-pack, his biggest release to date. In one sense you should know exactly what to expect - elevated steppers and deft rollers, but the fundamental appeal of Yosh is all those ear-snagging traits which make his tracks sparkle, and you never know what they're going to be until the needle's tracking in that groove. Now you can enjoy that sensation 12 times over - a good deal if ever we saw one.
