Running Out
Review: Following their recent release on the One Records VA, core family members
Yamen & EDA are the next offering on the label with the ‘Temporis EP’. The
sophisticated EP offers four dance floor tracks journeying through
mesmerising grooves, intricate percussions and quirky sound effects.
“We are very happy to return on One Records, it’s really like a family. Adam
and Ash believe in our music and we really feel being part of a crew. That’s
why it’s always special to release on One.” - Yamen & EDA
Having first become part of the label back in 2012 as part of a VA, French duo
Yamen & EDA have since been an integral part of One Records with their EP
‘Planet Brooklyn’ and a remix of Acid Mondays plus a debut gig at fabric as
part of a One Records showcase.
Over the past few years the pair have been hard at work in the studio refining
their style and becoming more confident in their production and DJ gigs. Their
release last year on Early Dub and this latest offering on One demonstrates
this clearly, which has gained them support from the likes of Appolonia and
Raresh amongst many.

Never Gonna Leave You (6:00)
Losing Memory (6:11)
Review: Leipzig's finest M Ono and Luveless are back on Houston via Detroit's Kolour with volume three of their new limited 10" series. Starting out with the deeply uplifting soulfulness of "Never Gonna Leave You 2K16" they are then into "Losing Memory" on the flip which gets more reduced, dubby and emotive, giving a nod to the kind of loopy deepness as heard on labels like Office or Slices Of Life. There really is something in the water out in Leipzig at the moment, great stuff!

Trails
Shift State
Precipice
Review: Junes delivers another trio of distinctive, whacked-out shufflers to Galdoors. First up it's Trails, stomping through glimmering, trippy textures with an emphatic groove. Shift State brings dubby delays and heavyweight bells that bounce back and forth over another potent rhythm to heady effect. Precipice makes use of a more menacing combo: clipped congas and swinging highs gang up with a bullish sub bass, before the icy pads grab hold - not for kids.

Review: Rough House Rosie welcomes Trinidadian Deep, 'the other side of Ron trent muscial Genious and Right arm' and the regular on Future Vision Records. On the A side the New York based producer delivers almost 14 minutes long track with the mesmerizing keys and solid drum parts. On the B side Trini gives us the taste of the soulful 'Italness'. On the remix duties is the RHR hero HVL with his robotic version of the track Obi.

Functionz
Utukmylife (On The Dancefloor)
House Will Remember
Review: The House Crime label debuts with this pearl of an EP by the new and exciting talents of Steven BC and VRRS. The duo come through dangerously correct with their first release, and "Functionz" is an instant hit, one of those tunes that has managed to find the perfect balance between drums and bass, melodies and vocals - a true old-school A-side for the heads. On the flip, "Utukmylife (On The Dancefloor)" is more speed garage than house, and the two producers pack another mean punch with this total banger; "House Will Remember", on the other hand, is a real piece of Chicago magic, a classic US house anthem with a rolling pile of drums, a huge swarm of bass and the right level of tape distortion. Excellent.

Where Pathways Meet
Oshakusan
Free at Dawn (The Ecstasy of Roland Mixx)
And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)
Review: The first place the world heard the lead track from this new Love Notes from Brooklyn release, "Where Pathways Meet", was on Deep House legend Mike Huckaby's My Life with the Wave show volume 2. Pascal Viscardi was one of many great artists to take Huckaby's warm tones and turn them into a work of art. "Pathways..." wriggles with deep funk and soul, and is paired with 3 other likeminded tracks for this very well-rounded EP. "Oshakusan" is the dancefloor track, juxtaposing warm chords and an insistent sax sample over the a tough bassline and rhythm combination that's aimed staight at the floor. "Free at Dawn" is the fathoms deep effort, going miles below the surface in a emotional expression of soul, and "And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)" provides a perfect outtro, and end to the statement made, making this EP feel truly complete.

Original Love - "Love Vista" (feat Clementine - Larry Heard instrumental dub) (5:39)
Shantell Sisters & Keva Band - "Ouch" (dub) (6:48)
The Joneses - "Sugar Pie Guy" (Tee Scott club dub) (6:13)
Review: The Edit & Dub Recordings label out of Tokyo is seriously impressing us as of late, with this new remix EP being the best of their material to date. That's because they have the house master, Chicago dance wizard, Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers remixing Original Love's "Love Vista" into a gorgeous house track with a sublime dub sensibility that suits it down to the bone - this is tune of the week for us and we cannot recommend it enough. However, the dub version of "Ouch" by the Shantell Sisters & Keva Band, which is actually more of a disco banger, is no less masterful in its execution and italo-leaning tendencies. Finally, Tee Scott delivers a dub of "Sugar Pie Guy" by The Joneses, a percussion-heavy boogie monster with a buzzing bassline ready to conquer the floor good and proper.

Marc Cotterell - "Keep On"
Charles Caliber - "Moving On"
Doug Gomez - "Your Everything"
Mikki Funk - "Up & Down"
Review: After a short break in releases, Plastik People are back with the third installment of the Various People. We see label owner Marc Cotterell up first with his slice of 90's house music, incorperating slick grooves and catchy cut up vocals, along side mark on side A, a new addition to the Plastik People family from london, Charles Caliber, who graces the EP with a stunning soulful house groove called Moving On. On the flip side NYC artist Doug Gomez brings us a classic sounding, deep head nodding track which was originally releases on Frole records and we loved it so much that we decided it needed a vinyl releases, to round off the release, we are very pleased to have Mikki Funk back on Plastik People. he delivers us a splendid cut of UK garage, Mikki Funk has also previously released on RM Records and Music IS Love.

Review: After years of releasing quality house EPs, Brighton based Black Key Records scores something of a coup: its first full length is a sixth album from Tom Ellis, a core member and resident of the esteemed Freerotation Festival, who is already well known to those in the know. Ellis has long been putting out funk and jazz inspired house and has built a fine reputation with connoisseurs around the world because of it. As a trained musician, who has played drums, bass, keys and guitar since an early age, his productions come imbued with a real sense of artistry. He has worked with a wealth of labels in his time, and now comes his most coherent and complete statement yet. There is a real sense of quality and class to the music explored on From the Cabin Above the Clouds, that makes it stand well proud of the crowd.

Review: After his last year debut on FASRAT Das Komplex is on fire - after EPs for Young Adults and Pets Recordings here he is again with a brand new 12" showing his versatility and ability to seamlessly blend multiple genres. All tracks on "Pudding" show clearly his dub and reggae influences applied to a light as a feather deep house rhythm frame, subtly infused with cosmic stylings and some synthpop nostalgia. At the same time, solid grooves carry Das Komplex' trademark melodic hooks - resulting in proper heads music that would work perfectly on any dancefloor - and any radio alike. "Pudding" sounds like a perfect teaser for Polish producer's debut artist album - due later this year on FASRAT.

Of Love Mystery
Kan U Feel It
Review: "Of Love Mystery" is taken from the Da Soul Revival EP released on Dancemania Records in 1995. Here's another one of Tyree's most sought after tracks. It has that classic four to floor bodyjacking Dancemania Ghetto House sound, with a touch of that Chicago innocence to it. On Side B "Kan U Feel It" was originally released in 1998 on Nepenta Records UK. Well, If you like phat beats and thick basslines, then this track is for you. It reminds of those early releases in the 80's on DJ International Records or Trax Records, where the groove was the most important factor.

Mingmad Jimsu - "Madming Music" (live) (6:11)
Project Sandro - "Blazer" (9:13)
Review: There seems to be a resurgence for the mid 2000s at the moment. We're not sure whether that means that those years are now considered 'vintage', or because there was something special about the artists that persevered with house and techno in an era so dominated by the minimal sound of labels like Minus. In any case, Sentrall were a California outlet that specialised in outsider dance music, and this 2005 collab between Mingmad Jimsu and Project Sandro is a perfect - and highly contemporary sounding - repress for 2016. The former drop a murky, twisted piece of pseudo house that has its roots firmly in electronica, while the latter goes for a subtle balearic approach that is simply perfect for the opening sets...or the closing ones, for that matter. TIP!

Die Roh - "Coming Out" (6:25)
Trudge - "Give" (6:23)
Die Roh - "Her First Time" (5:51)
Trudge - "Series 7" (4:20)
Review: Italy's Die Roh have come a long way since their first release for Vae Victis back in 2012 alongside Blawan, releasing plenty of militant house and techno with a rugged, analogue feel that sits just right with us. They're up on Axe Traxx this time for the label's second outing, and they're joined by newcomer Trudge. The former delivers a deep, lean deep house chugger in "Coming Out", relatively more docile than their previous material but it's still cut-throat enough to sound booming on a system and provoke a series of bodies to start moving thanks, in part, to its kinetic percussion rhythm and sublime keys. Trudge come through with "Give", a sludgy house monster with a brittle drum flex and banging toms built for destructive DJ use. On the flip of the wax plate, Die Roh are back with the funkier, more uplifting house bullet "Her First Time", but "Series 7" by Trudge is the killer on here, the shadiest house tune of them all that reminds us of Greg Beato at his very best. This is one hell of a tip - don't miss it.

Saturday Morning (Headache mix) (5:42)

Tragic Ending (7:54)
That Old Feeling (5:45)
Review: David Willenberger aka TRP first appeared on the scene with an EP for London's Lobster Theremin earlier this year, and we've been awaiting more of his brittle, dusty house flakes impatiently. He's here courtesy of Shall Not Fade, a young and vibrant independent with a lot confidence and flair about the way they release music, and if you're looking for some sketchy, utterly analog house music then you've come to the right spot. "Saturday Morning (Headache Mix)" is a warm, placid house gem with driving piano keys at its core; "Stash" is deeper, moodier and unleashes rolling bassline over its percussion; "Tragic Ending" is the off-kilter nugget for those wanting something a little looser; and "That Old Feeling" is a mesmerising house abstraction with an aqueous breeze floating through its mix. A quality bunch of outsider house tools.

Time & Space (11:43)
Bass To Love (11:37)
Review: Chicago house legend Ron Trent still has the magic touch. It's getting close to thirty years since his first releases began trickling out of the second generation of the Windy City's house scene, but the producer and DJ still knows how to lay down the utter truth. "Time & Space" is a classic Trent joint, where the spark is lit thanks to warm glow of dubby beats accompanied by sweet, mesmerising licks of instruments floating in mid-air. "Bass To Love" is as gentle and moving, but the sounds linger towards the higher end of the tune, where driving pads fuse gracefully with cascading synth solos to form a thick and wide-eyed wall of house for the deeper end of the DJ spectrum.

Umibozu (Tomi Chair Move In The Deep Sea remix)
Tentacles Of The Deep
Review: Bucketround presents the eighth EP written and produced by Manuel Costela, 3 tracks and the remix of Tominori Hosoya (Japan) inspired by Japanese Middle Ages, when mythological monsters wake up from the Deep.

"Omibozu (Original version)" is a trip of rhythms and percussion in the middle of a survival battle in the purest sound of American deep house style. "When Craken Show Up" provides us with a delicious fragrance and textures from the reefs, mixing feelings with the voice of the composer. "Omibozu remix" is the powerful touch of Tominori Hosoya "Tomi Chair" (HQ Pressing-Japan) and the dance floor face of the monster directly from Pacific ocean. "Tentacles Of The Deep" is the relaxing movement of the EP, from the caves of the darkness and naughty voices of Andrea Rocha to enter the depths mixed with Manuel Costela's piano.

Track 3 (club use) (9:21)
Review: Tony Donson unveiled his DJ Sonikku project earlier this year, delivering an impeccable EP of humid deep house for Lobster Theremin offshoot Distant Hawaii. All My Friends sees him transfer to the crustacean-themed parent label, in the process adding a little more analogue crunch to his previously dreamy productions. There's much to admire, from the Bobby 'O' inspired high-energy cheeriness of opener "Chemical Plant", to the proto-house melodiousness of "Sand Oasis". Best of all, though, is "Track 3", a wonky, back-to-basics bumper that takes a left-of-centre approach to classic New Jersey garage.

Mutenoise - "Jazzve"
Review: All that jelly and no toast - like when you find a bomb tune that's unavailable on 12". The new sublabel of Smile for a While is exactly about this. Clubby House Music by well-established producers as well as from lesser-known guys. French guy Alex Agore opens the EP with the Lowtone remix of "What Did I Do" - cut-up Garage House to the maxx. Max Chapman from London delivers another belter; a bassline-driven organ House tune with a minimalistic but very effective set-up. Oleg Poliakov - aka SKAT and one of the guys behind Circus Company - comes up with a sublime but powerful Tech House tune, in the original sense of the genre name. "Jazzve" is a tune by Russian producer Mutenoise. It's maybe the most original, innovative tune on this EP. Full of surprises and cutting-edge elements - hard to compare to anything else around these days.

Route To 95
Route To 95 (Gari Romalis rework)
Review: Some more uncut diamonds by S4AW... Robert Nedelcu aka Lecsicu from rural Romania is only 26 but already a skillful and dedicated producer of oldschool-flavoured House Music with a tek-edge. On top we've got vocals by Berinika van Wyk a singer born in South Africa.

Robert was inspired by guys like Rick Wade, Mr. G, Kerri Chandler, and of course Moodyman. His trademark are strong percussions, little harmonies every now and then and a “tracky” atmo to his tunes that sound very Chicago-ish.

All three original tunes are pure, vintage-style House Music a little on the tech side. So this clearly is an EP for the dancefloor and for early morning sessions when the sun's coming up again...

“Route to 95” received a groundbreaking rework by Detroit House Music veteran Gari Romalis. With incredibly deep subbass sequencies he makes this tune a deep jam like you never heard one before.

Review: Man of mystery E Myers set tongues wagging with last year's debut 12", "Home". Having already followed this up with the similarly solid Love/Hate double A-side earlier in 2016, he drops another dancefloor bomb. In its' Main Mix form, Untitled is a chunky, retro-futurist gem, with Myers fixing Jan Hammer style '80s synth work to bustling, Chicago style drum machine rhythms. These clattering rhythm patterns - all ricocheting hits, sturdy kicks, clanging cowbells and relentless handclaps - come to the fore on the excellent "Beat Mix", while the "Heat Mix" focuses a little more on the throbbing synthesizer refrains.

Review: The latest Sex Tags Wania missive is a 10"-shaped soundclash between Phil Sherburne/Pitchfork agitator DJ Sotofett and a true legend of the Sydney scene in Carlos Zarate aka Zarate Fix (Thug/Sweet Chilli). On the A side, Zarate serves up "Sands Of Time," a smooth low-slung groove carried by exotic vocals reminiscent of Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard; a nice touch. On the flip, Sotofett takes it down to grinding and slow-burning pace with the lysergic EBM styles of "Coiled (Acid mix)" which is one gutsy groove indeed; with a seriously nasty arpeggio covered in the right amount of rust and dust as we like!
