Review: Film De Geurre aka Fred Laser, Max Whiteshoe, Victor Chon and Xenia dropped their self titled dark wave, post punk and minimal synth masterpiece back in 1981. It has become a cult classic ever since and is their one and only ever album. It now comes reissued with a 24"x24" poster & original insert with lyrics courtesy of Mental Groove. The rhythms throughout are stark but compelling, with jangling guitars layered up over the chilly synths and dark, deadpan vocals delivered up top in a matter of fact style. It has a steady pulse that keeps you locked in as the guitar strings ping about and the mood changes from curious and beguiling to more moody and direct

Review: It has taken five years for FKA Twigs to follow up her astonishing first album, "LP1". With that kind of timeframe, you can't help but have high expectations for the finished product, expectations "Magdalene" more than meets from the off. An artist in the truest sense - with every step and stage in the recording process controlled by her - it's an accomplished comeback for a woman who in the last half decade has experienced both personal loss and major physical challenges. Don't expect more of the same, then, but instead a talent finding new purpose and new confidence following difficult times. With the ever-impressive Nicolas Jaar giving a helping hand, the result is a raw, honest record that's deeply personal, full of self-reflection and, ultimately, accepting and positive. Not to mention destined to be on repeat. Her position as one of the UK's most vital and compelling acts re-confirmed.

Review: Next up on Dusseldorf's Themes For Great Cities is the debut LP from local trio Folie 2, comprised of vocalist Marlene Kollender, Gregor Darman (aka Rasputin) and Sebastian Welicki (LSW/Trashlagoon). Anyone who caught their great podcast on LYL Radio full of slow, trancey music knows what to expect on this one. There's a strong nod to '80s pop for the most part, but also taking in chugging dark disco slow burners ('Confrontation') neon-lit boogie down numbers ('Night Times') and taking influence from sounds of their homeland circa the '70s ('Fullness Of My Heart').

Review: This new album marks a bold new chapter for Franc Moody that offers a window into their evolution into a more mature, reinvented outfit with an intriguing sound. This album dives deep into the duo's creative depths and finds them breaking their own musical rules. Partly recorded at LA's 64 Sounds Studio and Damon Albarn's Studio 13 in West London, the album draws heavily from Albarn's unique synth collection including rare Russian models. Influenced by live performances from Massive Attack and LCD Soundsystem, the record shifts away from disco towards a grungier, grittier and more attitude-driven sonic palette so has a raw and experimental essence unlike their previous releases.

Review: London-based duo Franc Moody is made up of Ned Franc and Jon Moody and thesis their third studio album. Chewing The Fat marks a fresh chapter for the duo and is packed with unusual and interesting sounds made with mellotrons and drum machines. Across the course of the disco odyssey, it captures themes of adventure and enchantment and reflects moments of excess before recognition of being grounded by reality. In other words, it is a great summation of life's highs and lows in musical form.
