Let Me Down Easy
Let Me Down Easy (red vinyl 7")
Cat: SSD 7001PR. Rel: 09 Oct 24
Let Me Down Easy (2:57)
Let Me Down Easy (long version) (4:41)
Review: While an independent disco classic in its own right, Rare Pleasure's 1976 gem 'Let Me Down Easy' is probably best-known for providing David Morales with the famous piano riff that was such a big part of his 1998 dancefloor smash 'Needin' You'. Here the sensational disco classic gets the reissue treatment courtesy of South Street Disco. Pressed to a rather eye-catching dinked, red-vinyl "45", you get two takes: the near three-minute seven-inch version, and the superior 'Long Version' - a five-minute exercise in Philadelphia style disco perfection rich in swooping strings, loved-up female vocals, classic disco instrumentation and the infamous piano riff. If 'Let Me Down Easy' isn't already in your disco collection, grab one of these while they're still available!

Love Brought Me Back
Cat: SSD 65001P. Rel: 20 Mar 19
Love Brought Me Back (8:44)
Love You Forever (3:32)
Review: ** REPRESS ALERT ** DeWayne Julius Rogers is an American singer and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for "Say You Love Me" from his 1975 RCA album "It's Good to Be Alive". His classics "Love Brought Me Back" and "Love You Forever" are remastered and reissued here on South Street's new disco reissue arm. Influenced and honed in the church, "Love Brought Me Back" is a sure-fire '70s soul hit, with a spirituality to the delivery that few can match. B side "Love You Forever", an emotive, soulful and romantic number, is pretty good too.

Running Away
Cat: SSD 65005P. Rel: 16 Feb 21
Running Away (long version) (6:58)
Love Will Bring Us Back Together (5:55)
Review: Roy Ayers made a number of killer disco cuts in the late 1970s, though few are quite as essential as 'Running Away', which has now been reissued by South Street Disco. Built around an instantly recognisable (and much-sampled groove), the extended 12" version is rich in rubbery, rising and falling bass, clipped guitars, spacey Rhodes motifs, superb lead vocals from Ayers and even better backing vocals courtesy of the female quintet who would later become Eighties Ladies (who's superb 'Tell Him' was reissued in 2020). Turn to the flip for another chance to savour Fever album-opener 'Love Will Bring Us Back Together', a deeper and more low-down disco groover that boasts some seriously good Clavinet riffs and another inspired Ayers' vocal.
