Crush (5:42)
Bubble Mechanics (4:43)
Polyester Mood (5:11)
Dub Affectif (6:15)
Review: Bambounou and Priori's latest collaboration offers a tantalising blend of techy playfulness and hypnotic club energy. The pair deliver crisp textures that meet the driving momentum of their electro-influenced sound design, evoking a sense of cerebral euphoria. 'Crush' expertly balances the squelchy, ice-cold synths of electro with the deep propulsion of acid house, while also drawing upon the hypnotic atmosphere of techno. The result is a carefully crafted journey through nocturnal body movement, full of rhythm and intrigue. Mixed at Jump Source Studios, the production is sleek and precise, with each track unfolding like a love letter, effortlessly evolving with each pulse.

Annihilator
Annihilator (remix)
Review: Fresh from schooling us on the current state of the UK electro synth wave underground via the crucial second volume of Messages From the Void, local hero Ali Renault dons his Cestrian outfit once again for some equally momentous movements for the Future Flash imprint. Strictly limited is the name of the game here - only 200 twelves have been pressed up and there's added incentive for vinyl freaks in the shape of a heavy duty wax seal bearing the Future Flash logo which adorns the centre label. All this is secondary to the music however, and "Annihilator" surely ranks in the upper echelons of apt titles as Renault explodes into a frenzy of spazmoid analogue rhythms from the off. Spectral flourishes and bubbling textures keep it interesting and it all rides on top of a pummelling aqua techno groove. The aforementioned spectral elements are expanded on by Perseus Traxx on an eerie electro refix that displays all the producers' talent for eking every last drop of lysergia out of analogue machinery. Big tip!

DJ Glow & /DL/MS - "The City" (4:29)
Microthol & DJ K-1 - "Binary System" (4:00)
DJ Stingray & The Exaltics - "Herd Instinct" (4:14)
VC-118A & Privacy - "Eha" (6:20)
Review: Trust's new XY series is based around what the label describes as "recombinations", though most would say that what's on offer is a fine set of remixes of tracks from the label's bulging vaults. Fittingly, DJ Glow's 'The City', which opened the label's first release in 1998, is the first to undergo treatment, with Viennese duo /DL/MS re-wiring it as an acid-flecked electro stepper. Electro legend Keith Tucker dons the DJ K1 guise and turns Microthol's 'Binary System' into a vocoder-sporting, funk-fuelled electro roller, before the Exaltics re-imagine DJ Stingray's 'Herd Instinct' as a high-octane acid-powered acid-electro throb-job. Finally, Privacy delivers the most revolutionary rub: a ghostly instrumental hip-hop take on VC118-A's 'Eha'.

Review: It has been two years since Jupiter4 put out the first part of their The Sapcy Saga series, but the follow up doesn't disappoint. Across six blistering tracks, a top notch selection of producers from around the globe turn out no nonsense electro tracks. The punk spirited Drvg Cvltvre goes for an industrial banger to open up while elsewhere Aquatronics - "Hydrosaurus" is all slippery hi hats, metallic hits and hi speed bass. Datawave goes dark to start off the flip side with some sludgy electronics, Jack Rowland stays slow and low with his paranoid and dubby trip and Psynote showcases some bumpy drum programming to get you in the groove.

Review: 20/20 Vision's intrepid explorations beyond the ionosphere continue apace with the latest gaseous exchange in their Exit Planet Earth series, once again welcoming a stellar hit list of electro operators onto spacebound wax. First up is label mainstay Carl Finlow, who once again exercises his considerable production prowess with a lithe and limber body popper, while Plant43 takes things stripped and sinister with the deliciously dark 'Forcefield Deactivation'. Silene - "Jiro" (6:17)
Review: "Gazillions" marks a first VA offering for the Fever AM label. It calls upon emerging producers from around the world and kicks off with Russian duo Formally Unknown. "Lotus Turbo" is a squelchy electro workout with kick drums to die for. CCL and Flora FM then come together for "Iridescent Lake", an utterly wild drum workout that will blow your socks off. London based brothers Ed and Rob work together as Paper on the old school bleep techno cut "Beaman" before Silene rounds things out with "Jiro", the most experimental of the lot thanks to its hall of mirror feel, slithering synths and jerking rhythms. Fresh indeed.

Bohm - "Tranquility" (6:33)
Piepiep - "System 100" (5:05)
Review: Dutch label 030303 is, unsurprisingly given the name, all about acid sounds in various different contexts. This time out they line up four artists and set them free with their Rolands. Freek Fabricius opens up with a portal to another dimension where bight harmonies and shattered melodies, computer game sound effects and bust bass all happily coexist. Geel Acidvarken's 'Birdhood Acid' is a more slow and meandering acid meditation. Bohm gets busy on a nice electro trip and Piepiep's 'System 100' is a nice tripped out wander through downbeat electro bliss.

Review: The Berlin-based 432HERTZ crew kicks on here with a new various artists 12" packed with electro heat. Rinaldo Makaj gets things underway with the serene grooves of 'Computational Universe', which has some of the nicest snares we've heard in some time. Rickie's 'Mesosphere' is a nice off balance sound with thumping kicks and melodic bass, then it's time to get sleazy and more than a little ghetto with the raw Electric City jam 'Escape From Reality.' The Klinik - "Moving Hands" (Helena Hauff remix) (3:46)
Kubler Ross - "Victims Of Victimless Crimes" (John Bender cover version) (4:17)
Review: Well, you can't really beat The Vinyl Factory in terms of its diversity of output, especially when they get some of the most interesting and current techno artists to remix EBM material from the 1980s. The So-Low compilation has been one of this year's best releases by a mile, a collection of hard-to-find gems from the likes of Colin Potter, Hard Corps, and many more, but we were utterly gobsmacked when we heard who was reinterpreting this gold. First up, Diagonal's lanky Powell transforms P/1e's "49 Second Romance" into a bubbly gunshot of a tune that keeps the original's vocals intact amid the gargles and jagged percussion stabs, and this killer is followed by JD Twitch's wondrous edit of "Gerry & The Holograms" by "Gerry & The Holograms". The ace Helena Hauff reshuffles The Klinik's "Moving Hands" into a deranged, synth-heavy techno swarmer, and John Blender gives us a cover version of "Victims Of Victimless Crimes" by Kubler Ross, a visionary remix that wraps up this total belter of an EP. Totally and wholeheartedly recommended!!

Vacanze D'Estate (2:02)
Review: More than a few eyebrows were raised when Thomas Blanckaert - best known for the Belgian rave revivalism of his Innershades project - popped up on Bordello A Parigi last year under the Palermo Disco Squad alias. Like that EP - entitled Palermo Disco Theme - this follow-up explores a tuneful, ear-pleasing sound that draws influence from classic electro and Italo-disco. Undeniably analogue-rich and stylistically spot-on - all four tracks sound like they could have been made around 1984 - there's little to fault throughout. Highlights include the spacey pads, rising and falling melodies and gently pulsing arpeggio lines of "Sicilian Nights", the sticky, pitched-down chug of "Island Life", and the bubbly electro hustle of "Streets of Palermo".

The WWWW - "Mammoth Hunt" (5:26)
Robotron - "Baltik" (7:12)
Review: Switzerland's Unruh makes a bold and abrasive bow here with blistering electro from four different but equally interesting artists. Panstarrs's 'Pendulum' is all twitching effects and coarse hits that get you on edge and keep you there. Tachyon's 'Night Ride' is a more driven track with a real sense of urgency in the kicks and bass as the acid sounds grow ever louder in the mix but The WWWW takes the gong for the most inventive sound with 'Mammoth Hunt,' which straddles the techno and electro divide with it's mix of rubber and brushed steel textures and glistening chords. Robotron offers a more heady vibe after what is a truly wild ride of an EP.

Mask Of A Thousand Faces
Review: Glasgow based "Buckfast aficionado" Marco Bernardi adopts a new moniker, The Parking Attendant, for "I've Heard It All Before", a mid-tempo slab of weirdo house, filled with paranoid detuned vocals and prickly West Coast-inspired synth lines. It's joined by "The Mask Of A Thousand Faces", a deeper jack track with a percolating arpeggios rising through murky piano chords. There's also a pair of heavy hitters on the remix front, with both Tevo Howard and JTC providing their own versions of the title track; Howard's doesn't tinker with the formula too much, opting to smooth out some of its rougher edges, while JTC opts for a insane slo-mo acid workout with monolithic chords that has been used by Creme boss TLR's as a palate cleanser in his sets this year. As the label says, it "wipes out everything and anything it comes across" - you've been warned.

Review: Back in December, Genevieve Pasquier quietly returned to action after six years by contributing a remix of the previously unheard "Fairy Tale" to Frigio's The Midas Touch EP. The original version of that song takes pride of place on Reflection, alongside three other clandestine trips into industrial pop territory. It's all deliciously dark and moody stuff, with metallic drum machine percussion, fuzzy synth lines and the artist's own atmospheric vocals taking centre stage. We're particularly enjoying the buzzing guitars, low-slung groove and Nine Inch Nails attitude of "Bouge!", though the decidedly weird, crackly and sparse "Tu Es Le Star" is similarly impressive.

Review: New Italian label Hiroshima 45 Chernobyl 86 Windows 95 present Pubblicazione 001. Starting off on the A side is Penelope's Fiance from Thessaloniki, who serves up a lo-fi and coldwave perspective of the Boards Of Canada on "Run & Gun", while Italians Rawmance and Security team up on the slo-mo EBM mutation of "Un Bon Flic" - bringing you the sound of latter's Knick Knack Yoda burger club in Rome. On the flip, Mannequin boss Alessandro Adriani gives us the gnarly 303 acid epic "Do Not Deliver Me Into The Enemy's Hands" and Raw Ambassador aka Antonio Barbetta gives us the early industrial sounds of "Attack, Attack!" with its rusty aesthetic calling to mind the classics of Portion Control or Skinny Puppy.

Review: The Brokn Toys label rarely misses the mark, with its' multi-artist EPs always a solid source of high-grade electro and related futurist electronics sounds. Predictably, Cold Readings, their latest compilation style affair, is another winner. The EP begins with a chunk of ultra-deep and icy electronica from Pera Sta Ori ('Passive Concealment') and ends with a deliciously raucous fusion of military-grade acid squelch and skittish, heavily edited jungle breaks (Scarlit Port's excellent 'Layla's Acid'); in between you'll find sleazy and chugging electronic paranoia from Shokh, some off-kilter acid-electro from Foreign Sequence, and some moody industrial breaks courtesy of Weith.

Review: While it was initially set up as a vehicle for his numerous solo and collaborative projects (think Transparent Sound and Artificial Arm), Orson Bramley's Orson Records imprint has recently started showcasing releases from other like-minded artists. This EP comes from one such producer, some time I Love Acid, Balkan and Varvet contributor Ben Pest. He begins via the fuzz-fuelled, medium electro aggression of "Mouth Lawson", a genuinely twisted and low-slung treat, before exploring alien-sounding, minor key-heavy pastures on rave-ready follow-up "Now Animate". Pest's love of twisted TB-303 acid lines is explored further on EP highlight "Vim & Vigour", a track that's then taken to even greater peak-time electro heights on the accompanying Transparent Sound remix.

Review: The amazing "Silver Clouds" is finally released! After the 300 copies promo pressing in 2005 it now comes with a bonus remix by Dexter. Photocall is the LA based team of Eli Epstein and Terryn Westbrook. The original version is an ice cold electro track with Prince style beats and a funking minimal bassline that really makes you move your ass. The track really kicks of with an additional synth line, the vocals of Terryn and a bleepy melody. As usual Dexter did a great job by minimalising the track and turning the original into a electro-funk kind of thing with crazy edits that works perfect on the floor. A must-have.

Review: The latest artist to join the roster of Sam Astbury's rave-igniting X-Kalay imprint is Adam Pits, a producer whose previous outings on Seven Hills and Holding Hands have won support from Ciel, Subb-Ann and Call Super. In keeping with the retro-futurist style that the label has become synonymous with, Pits' has delivered an EP that sounds like it could have been made sometime in the mid 1990s. Check first the brain-bending acid lines, psychedelic bass and crunchy '90s techno grooves of the bleep-heavy 'Kino Der Toten', before admiring the similarly raw and bleep-heavy broken techno of 'Donk E'. The influence of turn-of-the-90s bleep & bass is evident on the spaced-out electro-dub number 'Piston Pump', which comes accompanied by a more peak-time focused take from Bliss Inc.

Review: Bleep43 crew member Emile Facey, aka Plant43, returns for one of his irregular conceptual forays on Svreca's Semantica Records. Continuing the theme of his previous two Semantica releases, the four strong suite of intense electro revolves around Facey's sonic travels through the imaginary Sentient City. If you have indulged in previous Plant43 output you will know the London artist possesses a masterful range and it's displayed wonderfully here. Opener "Chain Of Memories" combines ripples of richness with the instantly gratifying snap of 808 programming, whilst "Ascendant Machines" is a wonderful example of his ear for melody. B side opener "Ubicomp Malfunction" veers into alien territory whilst "Amphibious Architechture" offers a contemplative finale.

Review: The legendary Plant43 has his much loved and quick to sell out December 2020 EP Storm Control reissued in limited quantities here. The three tracks are electro perfection right from the off. The title cut 'Storm Control' is all glassy lines and slick boom bap, with celestial pads and plenty of spaced out signifiers. 'Hydraulic Machines' gets a little more pensive and roomy, with room to let the lush chord progressions really sink in while a knotted bass and drum combo carries on below. 'Sparks In The Grey Light' then slows things down yet further, with star gazing melodies and pixelated chords bring a future retro feel over a mournful baseline.

Ordioni's solo tracks are vibrant, pulsating and mostly melodious, with the acid-powered electro/techno fusion of "Mother" and similarly styled "Pressure" vying with stomping, EBM-influenced closer "Slomany" in the "most club-ready" track stakes. After dropping the P record on Cartulis Music last year, as well as his debut album Live 4 Love, he's now back with 2, which comes loaded with smart and punchy club tracks for the players. Aligning with the sound you might hear on Partisan or Time Passages, Takicardie fires off his drum machines and synths with dead-eye precision, keeping a cool demeanour and placing the emphasis on the low end rhythm section. That is, after all, where the action is in any self-respecting dancefloor weapon, and here you're treated to four of them.

It's cosmic and bumping electro on the opener 'Both Of You,' with its far-sighted chords and shimmering synth work. Alien Dub (2:32)
Cosmic Position (3:33)
Track 6 (bonus track) (2:12)
Review: An authentic electro schooling from the Di'jital, Maaco, Lenn Swan and Psycho, this couldn't be more Detroit if it tried. Flexing from the icy, pneumatic constructs of the unruly, uncompromising "Alien II" to the much funkier b-boy swing of the perfectly processed drums of "Bionic Master Breaks" via the grittier, teeth-baring techno stomps of "Cosmic Position", this compounds the dots between electro and techno so hard you almost expect the Electrifying Mojo to blast through your wireless any minute. For added turntable pleasure, head for the bonus track where an array of mad samples and snippets await your dextrous creativity.

The Mystery Is Alive (15:33)
The Love Acid (15:36)
Review: Rico Puestel is a life-long techno veteran but the freshness of his sound wouldn't give that away. He rarely repeats himself but always manages to nail his grooves as this EP shows. 'The Mystery Is Alive' is first up and blends analogue drum programming with dusty and distant synth work that adds in colour and funk. On the flipside, 'The Love Acid' has a more heady feel with some lush chords allowed time and space to really ring out and get your heart fluttering while the cold drums roll below, then the squiggling acid comes in and flips the vibe entirely.

Review: Another Deewee release brings yet more fanciful tales from founders, brothers and Soulwax pairing David and Stephen Dewaele. Moon Theme composer and Macao native Bolis Pupil was apparently first introduced to the Dewaales on Social Media 1.0 platform Myspace and later met them during a 2 Many DJs tour of Asia. Inspired to make music after attending a Jean-Michel Jarre concert, this two-track debut is apparently the result of Pupil visiting the Dewaale's Gent studio and spending no small amount of time with their swell of analogue synths. "Think Logic System and Telex," Deewee tell us, and there are definite comparisons to made in this richly-produced pair of cuts that sound authentically like lost remnants of a byegone cosmic era.

B Calloway - "Party N Bullshit" (dirty mix) (3:16)
Jadzia - "Gray Inside" (4:23)
Baby Val & Paco Park - "Bloody Skies" (4:04)
Review: FTP has assembled another strong cast of characters for this second volume in their ongoing "Elevated Jit" series of electro-focused compilation style EPs. Salome and Volruptus join forces to deliver a suitably weighty, all-action opener - the rumbling sub-bass, ten-ton 808 beats and foreboding electronic surges of "Skreemsli", before recent Shall Not Fade signee Luz1e ups the tempo on the intense electro-jungle-techno fusion epic "Park N Ride". Over on the flip, B Calloway sprints through acid-electro territory on the insanely funky "Party N Bullshit (Dirty Mix)", Jadzia pops a pill and doffs a cap to Rephlex style braindance on "Gray Inside" and Baby Val and Paco Pak combine with impressive effect on the revivalist rave giddiness of "Bloody Skies".

PO - "On The Radio" (6:09)
Review: London-based label Opia turn their attention to Solar Sound System, who have a playful brand of electro to impart that manages to fuse kitsch '80s slap bass and classic sample stabs with immersive, expressive pads on the head-turning highlight "K7". Nemo Vachez does a great job of remixing the track before another original closes out the B-side - the pumped up roller "CD-R". Jimmy Batt pops up on the B side with the cheeky tweaking of "Magic Garden", and then PO rounds things off with the deep techno delights of "On The Radio".

Pekkuliar & Driahn - "Dazed Transmission" (7:04)
CMYK & Driahn - "How's The Sauce?" (6:07)
Driahn - "Tea Breaks" (6:13)
Review: The fourth release of Barcelona-based label Kommuna finally lands after being teased late last year. It is a various artists affair that includes the opening gem from breakbeat legends Stopout. They ride rough and ready over a lumpy groove thats full of angst, then Pekkuliar & Driahn step out with a more cosmic bit of chunky funky on 'Dazed Transmission.' CMYK & Driahn servo up a beautifully sappy out mining affair in 'How's The Sauce?' with some great vocal snippets and Driahn's 'Tea Breaks' pairs cinematic ambiance and lush pads with tightly woven electro bass.

Review: MinimalRome comes through with a fourth instalment of their Urbi Et Orbit (which means "to the city and to the world") series and once more it brings together six sizzling hot artists juxtaposing Rome-based producers to others around the globe. Plant43 might be the best known name and he offers up a searing electro trip with intense synth work and Heinrich Dressel gets for a beautiful ambient soundscape that will sooth mind, body and soul. Add in other gems like the rugged and off-grid electro bomb that is 'More Detections' by Microthol and you have a real winner on your hands.

1 Year Later
Review: Ah yes a new release from the mysterious Photodementia project surfaces in timely fashion following the issue of last year's warmly received Fig 03c. If you believe the blurb, this album is the result of Newcastle born but Vancouver based Ellen O' Malley working with Photodementia's Victor Baudet in the aftermath of that aforementioned debut album with co-conspirator Bernard Davies. If you believe the conspiracy theorists this is actually the work of Richard D James or Gerald Donald or Plaid or Stingray. Perhaps ignorance is bliss in this case, why bother focusing on who when the music itself is some seven tracks of industrial and electro infused techno that gleefully ripples with neck snapping skittering rhythms.
