Running Away
Running Away (limited 7")
Cat: PRS 1020. Rel: 24 Apr 23
Running Away (3:16)
Love Comes Easy (3:14)
Review: Thee Sacred Souls made a big splash with their lovely debut album last year after a great run of singles. They came on the Penrose label in Spain and that is where they return now with a new limited 7". 'Running Away' opens up in frantic but soul fuelled fashion with quick and slick drums and gorgeous vocal falsettos up top. Things slow down and take a sentimental turn on the flip with 'Love Comes Easy', featuring aching vocal yearns and expressive sax lines heightening the mood. Tow more gems from this ever more prominent outfit.

Trade Of Hearts
Cat: PRS 1011. Rel: 05 May 22
Trade Of Hearts (2:54)
Let Me Feel Your Charm (2:41)
Review: Thee Sacred Souls will have your head in a spin and your heart bulging with their new 7" for Spain's Penrose. The group consists of Alex Garcia, Josh Lane and Sal Samano and they have been releasing music since only 2020, all of it on this label, all of it excellent. Their fourth 45rpm is another timeless one that has all the old school aesthetics and frayed edges we love with some new school vocal gold. 'Trade Of Hearts' is a dreamy and woozy number that encourages day dreaming and then lush falsettos on 'Let Me Feel Your Charm' picks up the pace with a more dynamic groove for tender dance floors.

Six Minute Mile
Cat: PST 008. Rel: 23 Nov 23
Six Minute Mile (3:03)
Six Minute Mile (part II) (2:08)
Review: Six Minute Mile has rightly got plenty of attention for its first few outings and their early good work connotes with this eight 7". It's from Ohio's Wesley Bright who has joined forces with The Means of Production and New York's Ben Pirani, and is a lovely mid-tempo roller that reminds of balmy summer nights. The tune comes in two parts and opens with lovely Rhodes chords that are a great foundation for the tenor vocals of Wesley. Then come plenty of irresistible hooks and the rousing vocals sing of love and devotion like all good soul sounds should.

Review: The glorious Athens of the North label will always be one of our favourites. It is pretty much buy on sight for lovers of soul, funk and disco and this month it is serving up two more unmissable long players. Here it is Ike and The Uptights and their superb sounds which make, what me might bravely, say, could be one of this always high class label's finest releases. Formed by Henry Bradley in Forrest City, The Uptights recorded for Memphis label Action Records and here we get a perfect window into their world of raw and guttural funk.
